I still think it is spine, with skull attached. Which, logistically, doesn't seem possible.
I mean, everything is attached to it. EVERYTHING. IT isn't gonna come out clean like that, ignoring the fact that it just don't fit.
It looks like a spine. At least, I thought it does. But there is an achievement called "Assecution" apparently.
I just find it hilarious that Professor's "Underboob" screenshot ruffled a few feathers. But a guy getting sodomized by a demon and getting his insides removed via his rectum almost didn't get noticed. The internet, eh? L-O-L.
Anyway, in the theme of sex, gore, and bad taste: an blood-stained Imperial warming up in fire after a long day of being a sociopath.
Same Imperial with less blood.
As gorgeous as Skyrim is, I'm still playing around with finding a "fire in the night" effect that really matches what I expect from films and from all those boring late night grill-outs I went to as a kid. Likewise, I'm still annoyed that blood on the face hasn't really been done properly in light of how the game treats facial textures (there is a mod called "bloody facials"--go ahead and get your laugh on, I know I did--but it doesn't really match the blood on the rest of the body). I guess it's funny that that bothers me, while the whole demon tentacle in mobster's rectum struck as me as maybe going a bit far.
On a totally different subject, Total War: Shogun 2 is still a goddamn good looking game, when you consider it's an RTS. I've seen people running Skyrim where the people don't look this good.
so ill be spamming mass effect trilogy screenshots for awhile, i'll try to spread them out.
no colon antics though.
I didn't want to sound like I was complaining. Really, I was genuinely shocked by the whole "OMG, is that a guy's COLON?" I can honestly say, I've played my share of violent games, but outside of Mortal Kombat, seeing a guy's colon really left me surprised.

Of course it is an Assicution. Where do you think the spine is being removed through?
...and when you are done with that; take a folding
chair to Creation and then suplex the Void.
I was informed in the Steam thread that I would be a jerk for not posting in this thread. I got a new steambox with an i7 2600k @ 4.0 ghz, 16 gb ram, and an Radeon 7970. I've been playing everything with all the settings set to the absolute max in every game, at 1080p, often in 3D. I'll post more screenshots as I playthrough some more of my games, but here are a few opening shots of Batman: Arkham city:

Bro pick up a cheap Nvidia card and PhysX that bitch up in your box. There are many scenes in the Batman games that don't have the same punch without it.
...But a guy getting sodomized by a demon and getting his insides removed via his rectum almost didn't get noticed...
Honestly, I could swear I read a dev statement confirming it was the colon. I don't think it's the spine since it's a lot less skeletal and a lot more...gooey.
Doesn't really matter, since it's a damn painful way to go one way or the other. But dammit, now I'm curious which it's supposed to be.
There's a reason the finisher is called "Assecution". 8->
...really?
Is this actually the case? If so, lopping dudes' heads off as Rachel in NGS suddenly seems so much more classy.
But then she gets tentacle slimed, so...kind of a wash.
I don't see her colon. Or anyone else's colon.
Peter Venkman-style sliming vs. seeing someone's intestinal hardware get ripped out. It's not close, but I see where you're coming from.
Her colon is about the only thing you aren't seeing.
Peter Venkman wasn't a half naked chick whose enormous endowments were shamelessly accentuated by phallic goo, either. As far as videogame objectification goes, that was one of the lowest bars set, even by Tecmo.
Nobody post screenshots either. In some ways, it's even more NSFW than that Witcher pic from earlier.
Anyway, Dark Souls! It's one of the scariest games ever, and it looks great as long as you pay tribute to Durante.
You and me will have to disagree, Professor--female character in same ridiculous costume as before getting spat out of a monster covered in slime can't compare to a male character getting his spine ripped out through his rectum. Then again, I may very well have a unshakable fear of damage to the spine since watching play Mortal Kombat as a child. Pretty much anything involving spines and rectums immediately knocks out slimy fanservice devoid of gore or technical nudity. It's not close.
On the bright side, that journalism degree and classes on what raises nudity flags on television are finally paying off. It reminds me of what we learned about gore: namely, there (was) no definition of obscenity in gore.

Looking at the (very good) screenshots, I think you're all set. What do you even need PhysX for if that's what the game looks like? Besides, in this day and age, who actually buys a separate PhysX card?
So Dark Souls is indeed awesome looking, of course it wont be as nice looking as the previous screenshots but here are a couple of my character after putting 12 hours in.

Well I actually have a spare 8800GT sitting around (2 of them in fact), so I'm considering popping it in. I need to buy a new mobo to do so, but if I can get one then I might as well. This was intended to be a no compromises box, just about the best available. PhysX might not be a huge deal, but if it makes the game look better, I'm all for it.

Are they single-slot EVGA cards? Ohmigod are you the one who bought my two EVGA cards?
More seriously, PhysX is something of a nonstarter even today--as it happens, I believe the most recent Nvidia drivers (for a while) offer the option to use an 8800GT card
Getting a separate card, even on the cheap, seems kind of a waste of cash. There's a reason why they are cheaper now: for Nvidia anyway, what PhysX support there out there counts on the integrated architecture in their newer cards (like my 470GTX for example), from what I understand.
Still, I too love unnecessary additional physics in games. I've heard the recent Batman games on PC do capitalize on it too.

Actually, they are single-slot EVGA cards lol.
As for physX, it may not have taken off like people expected, but you can still see a big improvement in games designed to utilize it fully, like batman up there. I remember, when I used my SLI'd 8800 GT cards, that the physics in batman were miles beyond the console versions.
I've been toying with the idea of postcards "from" Guild Wars 2. These screenshots have had some editing but they do show the world is very very well designed.
Dammit vegeta, I have been trying to avoid wanting Guild Wars 2, but those screenshots are making it difficult.
I haven't been hooked on a MMO like this since before Wrath in WoW. The world is just amazing to explore and everything just is well polished, pretty fun and without the sub I don't feel any pressure while playing it. Very much go at your own pace.
Oh wait, should I be wanting to make it sound bad? Umm... some later zones have some bugs and I've been running into some lag issues?
Strangers Wrath HD is actually HD now! HUZZAH! It received an update on Steam and it also has Achievements. Had to try it out. Ran like ass on everything max but it turns out you can disable AA and VSync and just force it through the Nvidia Control panel easily. So pretty and smooth!

I don't think you'd see a substantial advancement if you bought a PhysX card as oppose to doing that, but hey, its up to you.
I like this one because of the stark contrast between the (lack of) detail on Batman's face and everything else in the picture:

This is about as pretty as Skyrim gets for me (although, I think Riverwood was pretty good looking):
Also, it would be really nice if I could link directly from Steam instead of having to upload the pictures to another host.
