The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Last month, Minecraft studio Mojang launched a campaign through Lego's Cuussoo label to have a set based on the game enter production. The project gathered the required 10,000 supporters, and was sent to review in late December. Now, the Lego jury has reached a decision, voting to green-light the initiative.
Lego Minecraft sets are soon to be spilled all over the floor.
Though the Minecraft Lego set has been approved, it's not ready to be released just yet. Next up in the process is creating a concept for the project. Writing on the Cuusoo blog, Lego said, "We are now developing a concept that celebrates the best aspects of building with the Lego system and in Minecraft."
According to Lego, "These things take time, so we appreciate your patience." The company said more details about the Lego Minecraft sets will be shared at a later date.
While brown and green Lego bricks exist, they aren't exactly common. At least all the brown ones I've had were weird shapes so they resemble wood and I barely had any green.
It's a made up word, and I will call them legos, just like I call them lincoln logs, and k-mart ass cheap knockoff legos (aka megabricks or some bullshit).

Omar called em Legos, so it's OK in my book.
So this is weird. Any photos of the Minecraft Lego bricks floating about yet? I'm wondering if it's just gonna be a yearly theme or if it's like a whole new range or something.
So basically paint the lego set to match the default minecraft theme and remove the little -C hands from all the people. Make all the bricks the same size/dimension. Make special lego items like forge/box/etc.
Doesn't seem like it should take very long at all.
It would be cool to have a creeper painted lego guy though.
I don't get why people don't get this. It's a simple business decision based on branding and makes perfect sense for both companies. It's exactly the same as branding bricks for Star Wars. You can build the Millennium Falcon with regular Lego bricks too.

It's not really like Star Wars though, 'cause with SW you're adding something to your Lego experience. Tiny storm troopers and driods and Skywalkers and whatnot, and special bricks needed to make that Millennium Falcon. Minecraft already IS legos. One wonders how Minecraft Legos will be distinct from the ordignary kind. If they decided to make a game about Minecraft and Legos didn't already exist, they would have invented Legos! It.... makes too much sense...

Tiny creepers and endermen and zombies and whatnot
Special bricks like crafting table, enchantment table, and furnace.
Lego is the name of the company, the items in question are construction bricks, not Legos and not Lego.
But because only a terrorist would give a rats ass, just call them whatever you want.
Lego is a contraction of "Leg" and "Godt" which means "Play" and "Well/good". We Danes call them Legoklodser=Legobricks. Only idiots and ignorant suburban mothers in our country say "Legoer"="Legos"
Is it true that Lego is also Latin for "I put together"?
But I grew up calling them Legos, and so did everyone I knew. It wasn't until the past couple of years on the internet I realized that this was considered "wrong" and that there were people who actually cared enough to argue about it.

i too feel exactly as gabe does, the whole thing is super silly. aside from characters from the game, you could already make anything you can make in minecraft. it's a dumb idea if you ask me but there will be people who buy it so whatever!
That's... a good thing right? Also, your smiley seems to be upside down Enc, you must be Australian... or a tourist in Australia with a dandy sun visor.

Yes that is true. It means either "I put together" or "I read/study".
Urm... isn't Lego sort of an Open World building block device? And Minecraft uses blocks in an open world to build? So yeah really? Other than giving another source of income, I'm a bit puzzled myself at why the need, but in a way I do see it. So yeah.. I'm damning them and praising them all in one.

Didn't they make a game based on Street Fighter the movie, or did I imagine it?

I guess they could make the LEGO Brand Construction Bricks all pixely or something.
I expect tiny Lego creepers preequipped with miniature explosive charges to be sold separately to the friends and relatives of kids that get the minecraft set.
Remember the old days when you'd build something amazing and then some douchenozzle sibling comes and smashes it?
A hiss and a boom are all that separate that memory from the bold new world of tomorrow.

It is pretty weird.
Huh, I suddenly have the urge to slap someone across the back of the head.
Legos is a perfectly valid plural of lego.
Get out
Lego is already plural!

Lego. Though they usually just call them "bricks"

I love you. Marry me.

I was gonna say, I hope @Ashoka enjoys being immortalized in a Tycho news post.
They probably read the Hub, and I think Gabe said he reads the comic edit thread.

Although this does raise the subtle question of when the News post is written on a given day.
