[Recruitment] Geist: the Sin-Eaters [nWoD]
SilverBonesThe Ruined KingNorth Bay AreaRegistered Userregular
I am just putting the feelers out to anyone who has played or run a Geist Game. Of all the nWoD games, this one seems to tickle my fancy a whole bunch. I was wondering if any of you have started games on here before, have thought about it or are looking for people to join in a Geist game?
After my Gamma World game is through, I was considering testing out this system to see how it would do.
Thoughts anyone?

I am interested, since I love the whole idea of a group of supernaturals who get a second chance at life and decide that they should live it up.
From what I understand, it would be a good idea to do character creation and pre-game stuff with everyone together on Skype or IRC or something, since the Krewe stuff is something that everyone has a say in.
If you don't mind someone new to the system, I'd certainly be interested. I did a bit of reading about what Geists and the Sin-Eaters are and it caught my eye. he only issue is that I haven't played anything other than D&D and a brief (one session) foray into Call of Cthullu. I'd like to play, if you don't mind a newbie

Well, if I am running a game, it won't be for a while yet. Plenty of time to get acquainted with the system

So I have recently acquired all the materials I need to run this game, however I am still deciding on a format. Ideally I would like to do something that has a much smoother narration, and also get everyone together to create the crew, so I am thinking I will be making this game a hybrid of PbP and IRC / Skype.
I am converting this into a recruitment thread, so if anyone is interested, please respond.

I am thinking of setting this up in a city environment, probably New York. The Krewe is one of many in the area and ideally are driven by more western-driven view of ghosts and the afterlife. Depending on how many points the group puts into a haunt, it may be something like a warehouse or even a hollowed out old church.
I would also like the group to be pretty diverse as far as your Thresholds go. Maybe a couple sharing the same threshold, but not a full group of the Torn for example. Primarily, the group should be prepared to deal with other Krewes as well as harmful spirits / other supernaturals.
Also I will require good to excellent character background and descriptions of the characters Geist. Right now, I am thinking a group of five players should suffice, but it will not be first come, first served. i will only be accepting characters who will actually fit well.

Yep, I'd be down for this.
I'm partial to PBP, if that helps.

I am thinking the meat of the game would be PbP, but would you be open to character generation on IRC or Skype? I think various mediums would work well here.

I would be down for this as well, I don't have Skype though.

IRC it is then - at least for character creation and maybe a couple of sessions.
Three players (4 if MightyDuck is still interested) is a good starting size. If you guys would like to post up character concepts for me, we can get started on scheduling an IRC session.

Lyle Morrison: [Forgotten Celebrant] OSHA compliance is a catchphrase bandied around as a talisman to ward off the possibility of catastrophic injuries happening in the workplace. Especially in a workplace with plenty of death-inflicting objects on every step of the assembly line waiting to convey an unwary worker into the great beyond. Lyle Morrison was a high-school dropout who spent the last thirty years of his life working at a bottling plant for Fredonia Cola. There he discovered that Murphy's law is a higher law than that of OSHA compliance when one day the conveyer-belts hanging high over the workers heads transporting empty glass bottles decided that they were weary of being so high and dropped downwards crushing Lyle under hundred of pounds of metal and broken glass.
There were complaints about the conveyer belts being in need of repairs, but the facility owner chose to ignore them. Lyle's broken body was shipped off to the hospital to die a quiet and undignified death where instead he met his Geist. The legal department quickly acting paid Lyle to keep his mouth shut and since then, Lyle's been looking for a new line of work.

Allie grew up in a small town trailer park. Her dad wasn't around much, and when he was, it wasn't exactly a good thing. In his absence, there was a parade of "Uncles" that would stay for awhile, but never long enough to get comfortable. Alcohol was a staple in her household, and sometimes even harder drugs, but, luckily for Allie, her mom had enough presence of mind to keep away from the more violent men that seem to be stereotypical of that environment.
Neglected at home, Allie was excited about the prospect of school, but quickly discovered that she was just as easily overlooked there. As she got older, she found it relatively easy to coast through her classes, not through any special intelligence, but because she always seemed to be able to talk her way into passing grades. Her low income school system was designed to pass kids through as quickly as possible and she took full advantage of that. Her mousy looks and trailer park stigmata insured that she was ignored by most of the other kids and she convinced herself that she liked it better that way.
With High School coming to a close, Allie was faced with the prospect of having to do something with her life. While not exactly easy, up until now her life had been following a predetermined path she was content to coast along. To further complicate matters, her mom was becoming much more enamored of the hard drugs, and her current "Uncle" was enabling that. Fairly resigned to getting a menial job in town, she came home after school one day and walked in on her mother's body cooling on the floor of the trailer. The "Uncle" was long gone and she hadn't seen her real dad in years; Allie completely shut down. Hours later she finally stirred and began to gather her few possessions. Leaving the trailer door open, she wandered out into the night and ended up on the side of the highway with her thumb out. A couple days later, she found herself in an alley in New York huddling near a steaming grate.
Months passed with her finding occasional menial jobs to work, living on the street. It became harder and hard for her to get work as her appearance degraded from mousy, to haggard, to just plain dirty. Then January came. And she was alone. And then she wasn't even that.
The next thing she knew was heat. Not warmth, for she was still chilled to the bone, but a burning need for the companionship she'd had so little of in her life and then lost entirely. By her side was a woman wearing a torn Victorian dress, covered in sores. She could tell she'd been pretty once, but what was obviously end stage syphilis made Allie turn away. "Yes, that's what they all did, in the end. But not before. Before they couldn't stay away. They won't be able to stay away..." Then she was gone, and with her, the passion that had filled her so briefly. Somehow, she felt even colder than she had before she faded away.
Confused, freezing, Allie staggered to her feet when a sparkle on the ground caught her eye and, picking it up, she discovered it was a tarnished silver pomander, smelling strongly of cloves. She stumbled out of the alley that had been her home for she doesn't know how long and managed to find her way to the shelter she'd heard about. It was full, but she managed to convince the man running it to give her a space in the corner to sleep that night. It was the last night she slept on the floor.
Not really sure what was driving her, she managed to clean herself up, talk her way into a real job working sales at a retail clothing store, and find a small apartment that she was able to convince the landlord to rent to her without a deposit. She found that whenever she would interact with people, especially men, she would smell cloves, but noone else seemed to notice.
Heading home from work now. If that sounds interesting I can work up more of the post-geist stuff, but I didn't want to go crazy since I didn't know where in their timelines you'd want the characters starting (or if this would even get off the ground). :P

Not at all! These are good character concepts. I am currently in the middle of getting my butt kicked in work and I am loathe to start something up when I may have some immediate downtime. I will be trying to schedule something soon though.
After the 26th my schedule should free up considerably.
