Roller derby began in the 30s, died off in the 80s, and was revived in Texas in the early 2000s. It's one of very few full-contact sports for women and is played on quad roller skates. Most modern derby is played on a flat track, though there are some that prefer banked. Most skaters create unique derby names for competition.
