I wonder if the N7's they are testing are being hit by the TRIM bug?
Basically Internal storage is not getting TRIMmed properly after certain high access tasks. This causes a significant amount of lag on the device when it happens. Maybe the game is causing this condition?
Edit: It really depends on what version of android they are testing on. 4.2 comes stock with the -discard flag set and thus is unaffected. 4.1.2 was affected though.
Or possibly this bug in 4.2? So, here's an experiment. This is the benchmarking app they're using. Try it with one finger, five fingers, and ten fingers. The performance gets worse and worse the more touch events there are, like it can't get through a queue fast enough.
Apparently it absolutely devastates my Galaxy S3's battery. Like, eviscerates. Even when I'm not playing.
Well, it's either Ingress doing it, or somehow the two new Exchange server email accounts I had to add today for work. I'm not sure which is more likely/absurd. But it's one or the other because nothing else on the phone changed today and after removing with Ingress and the accounts with extreme prejudice battery life is back to normal. Certainly it doesn't seem like "Exchange services" should be taking up a consistent, unchanging 20% of my battery at all times, should it? (They?) While Ingress claims to only be using 2-3%.

@frem I just downloaded the benchmark and I am not seeing the same thing. What model n7 do you have?maybe there's a hardware revision because it just picked mine up last week and it's a 32 gig.
This is weird.

It's subtle. Maybe I'm imagining it? The FPS goes down a bit, which is probably related to the bug I linked to a few posts ago. I might just be seeing reduced FPS. I've got a 32 gig model with 4.2.1, build number JOP40D. The SSN on the box is CB0KBC493---.
There was a guy speculating it's because ASUS didn't go with the standard Tegra 3 touch event processing chip, which can take like 200 events per second. But the chip in the tablet seems to be capable of 60 events per second, which should be fine for a game running at 60FPS.
Oh, well. Worst case scenario, we wait until Google I/O for Android 5 and get slightly better performance then. I would like to actually test the game on the tablet to see the issue myself, though. Maybe the APK will show up in the next Humble Android Bundle?

I guess it could be both.
GPS sucks the life out of your battery. Also if your not connected to wifi turn wifi off, the searching for a wifi connection drains battery. Ingress does not drain that much. Do you have push mail enabled with the exchange email accounts? Also I got a 12000mah battery pack just for ingress. It really drains that battery.
Just got an ingress invite myself, actually surprised there are some portals around already (small city of around 40k people in Western Australia). Bring on Enlightenment.

1. As many people as I've heard claim the GPS drains battery, I have heard an equal number of people say leaving GPS on does nothing if the GPS isn't actually being used.
Ingress or GPS or something, ever since my GS3 got the auto-update about a month ago, my battery life has been absolute shit.
If it's Ingress so be it, it'd be good to have a culprit to know what the deal is. Starting to get real annoying.

Moments ago I get an email saying I need to send google my bank statement, driver's license and passport. Either scan or copy the relevant documents. Anyone know of an android app to make 3rd party notifications more obvious that'll run on a Kindle Fire? This issue alone is making me think it may worth nuking Amazon's OS totally and throwing Jelly Bean on it, grr...

DA FUQ :?
This happened to me.
It's legit. I called and talked to a billion people, but basically it's the insane security you need to go through to prove you're you since they have all your credit card info. It happened to me when I was setting up Google Wallet on my phone, and messed it up.
As tedious as it was, I walked away from it kind of happy that if my phone ever got stolen and someone tried to use google wallet after I made them aware, they'd never be able to fake it as me.

Yeah they got back to me and said it was basically a random spot check they do now and then, usually when someone updates their account settings (I was using a new card for the first time with google wallet). They're really good at explaining stuff, props to them for the great customer service.
has anyone played Farming Simulator on a Nexus 7? I'm looking for a new game to play in bed so if it plays well I'll get it
I am so tempted to pick it up but I've bought way too many games this month already. Currently playing Dead Space and trying to play max payne, its a bit fiddly but impressive all the same.
I was interested in getting one of the GTA games, anyone know if they playe decently and have planes?
I've been playing GTA3 on Nexus 7 and it plays pretty well, it didn't play too well on my Xperia Play, can't answer about planes or anything though as I had to take it off the Nexus due to my 3 year old daughter playing it
Has Neuroshima Hex! been mentioned yet? Because it's pretty great. Better than the board game, even. Badly needs online-multiplayer, though, and I'm not sure if the interface scales well for 10-inch tablets.
You can walk around in the benchmark world and just explore. Controls are a bit wonky (or I'm just not accustomed to controlling a 3D game like that on my phone, I usually stick to sprite-ish games like FF games), but it's really cool.
Runs incredibly smooth on my Droid Razr maxx hd, and makes me want someone to build a honest to goodness Skyrim type game that looks that purdy.

This new dungelot update is way too easy. I'm on floor 68 or so with 10000 gold, 60 attack, 700 health, and just chugging along with the Assassin. The only thing that will probably kill me eventually is running out of antidote potions.
Anyone else try Curiosity? For such a simple premise is got me hooked. So relaxing too, I think it's more of an than actual game. Despite the fact you have a goal. .... however unreachable it might be. Seriously there are billions of cubes. A single layer after being half copied away at still had over six hundred million cubes. That's a single layer!

I load it up from time to time and poke away good few squares, then close it because it kills my battery, then come back a few weeks later to a completely different layer. I do wonder what's inside it, though.
I was wondering about the battery tbh. Thought it was weird how mad it just drained whilst playing it. I must've spent 4 hours last night just tapping away. I'm tempted to buy the steel I chisel but damn it, I will have that Diamond chisel!
I think I bought three of the explosive things, had absolutely no idea how to use it effectively and wasted them all for very little effect. I will say I found it immensely satisfying to clear a screen and get a huge bonus.
edit: also people should try that Epic Citadel thing, because it's really quite impressive. I'm hoping it means Epic are finally considering releasing games on Android. Maybe using this to test the water, see what problems come up so they can better optimise future releases?
I tried epic citadel. Looked great but yeah, it must be a discreet announcement of sorts. It ran fine on my s3 so I really hope they bring overthe engine.
Yeah, worked fine on my Note, barring a few drops in the framerate. I'm hoping it's the first sign of them porting Infinity Blade, and not just so they can announce to other developers that UE3 now works on Android.
Does Rainslick play pretty well on a phone? I hate shitty interfaces.
Well enough. It is a little bit slower than on PC to go through menus, and objects in the environment can be a bit finicky. But it's perfectly playable.
Super Hexagon is fantastic, but it breaks my heart to feel like my brain and body literally cannot react fast enough to complete 4 out of 6 of the levels in the game.
But it's enjoyable even just on the lower difficulties.
Hey, can anyone recommend a droid phone? I'm gonna be upgrading sometime this weekend and could use the help choosing. Preferably with a physical keyboard, though not an absolute must. Thanks!

I heard that the new Nexus is the most Android bang for buck.
Samsung Galaxy S3 is the most popular all-around Android standard-bearer right now. Depending on your carrier you may also have access to some powerhouses like the HTC One X+ or HTC Droid DNA, or the Nexus 4.
If you absolutely must have a physical keyboard your options are very limited and none of those phones will be top of the line performers.
