After last night's shameful showing in the CSTL I have focussed on my ramp forcefields on ladder this morning. The key (I think) is having your units positioned well and on hold position. No zealots running down the ramp, no sentries getting into the line of fire. Just hit your forcefields every 15 seconds, keep your macro up and find a smart way to break the contain.
Since my holiday I've been absolutely petrified of ladder.
Like, I make it to the multiplayer screen and just wig the fuck out and close Starcraft.

set a goal of how many games you want to play of 1v1 ladder each day and stick to it
dont seta goal of wins, just games played.
Even if that game is 1 per day, thats sitll 7 games a week which is pretty okay. Skip days if necessary to real life commitments and make it up later. Thats what I did near the end of last year to break from my funk into GM. I haven't laddered seriously in a while so I need to do it again.
The ideal number I recommend is 5 games. 5 games, on ladder, usually only takes an hour at most, maybe 90 minutes.
Don't let yourself play any less or more.

I haven't played for like 8 months, and am now incredibly rusty. How do I get back into shape? I pretty much completely lost the ability to macro when I run more than two bases. My old rank was Plat but after a few games I now dropped to Gold, and I am worried that at this rate I'll go down to Silver soon.

Protoss translates into terran better than into zerg. Thef basic concepts of TvP you will already have. The basic concepts of TvZ are very similar of those of PvZ.

You can play Bio TvP, Bio into Sky Terran TvT and MMA Style (Marauder/Hellion/Thor) TvZ.

Probably due to inexperience. When I played a few games as Terran I found the seiging/unseiging/positioning to be fairly tedious. I naturally seem to gravitate towards lighter units, like zealot/sentry/phoenix/templar/prism.
Things that look fun to me about other races:
T - hellions, hellion drops, auto turrets, reaper-vac.
Z - ventral sacs, banelings (burrowed, dropped, or otherwise), infestors, ling run-by's

I felt exactly the same until i started playing, but having a good tank positioning is such a good feeling. When i attack a zerg, and i get up that perfect siege spread position, thats the best feeling ever. At times like that i like to shout at my computer screen. "now what, you mutalisk-loving son of a bitch!?!?!?!?!?"
I think....I think I want to play SC2 again. Maybe I'll try the one game per day method that Dhal suggested. Any recommended Terran build I should start with? When I last played, I was in gold league.

When zergs go roach against me i dont even bother with tanks. Pure marine with superfast engi bays for double upgrades, crazy dropping constantly because roaches aren't as mobile as lings, and nor are infestors, and get ghosts for emping when the number of infestors gets too high.
Roach dps isn't very good at killing marines being healed by medivacs, and roaches, unlike lings and banelings, have a difficult time disengaging from stim marines.

@Trunkers - if you want, you can play TvZ without tanks, but its a lot harder to do because your marine micro has to be really good. Here's a game where I tried it after getting a brutal amount of drone kills with early hellion runby, and I still didn't manage to walk over my opponent.
