they show up for everyone, but it seems random whose show up in your game. people put them down in pits all the time, but i've gotten plenty of those (by accidentally falling down those same pits).
remember, because it's a pit it's actually easier to get than one in a very high or obtuse place. hell, sometimes i even try to go for ones deep in a hole if i know i'm not going to land safely.
But isn't that sort of skewed because like Sky says, you can just put them down in a pit and no one will ever get them while you earn a ton of cash? Who do they show up for? Everyone on your friends list or EVERYONE playing the game?
You've obviously never intentionally flew into a pit after a shiny green thing, missed, rewound and tried several more times just to get the angle right.
I will drop pursuit of a world record in a heartbeat if it means I get the shiny.
And they show up for the whole world. I've been snagging geotags from people I've never heard of. Its great to think I just broke their easy income idea.
Its not completely obvious but it is definitely there. If you've played SSX 3 you should definitely give it a run

Gunwarrior, I must once again demand that you stop being a soulless high score machine. My self esteem is low enough without having your scores to look at.
I'm kidding, I will beat one of your scores... someday...
This game has so many carrots dangled at one time. Its almost overwhelming.

In World Tour, it looks like you get a gold medal no matter how bad you finish? So I can come in third, I get the same reward as if I placed first?
Man, I hope there's no trophy/token/badge/whatever for placing first in the whole World Tour, because the ones I did and the ones I didn't are indistinguishable. :P
World Tour is more of an introduction to all the characters and tracks in the game. It's all good as long as you are in the top 3, unless specified otherwise. It's the Explore Mode that will have you restart the same tracks over and over again to get the gold medals!
Just picked this up today, so I'm all eager to get more people on my psn friends list to compete against. If you're interested, feel free to add me. Name is 'Entriech', same as on here.
I hate adding friends (from I assume PA) and then finding out they're total beasts in this game lol.
From playing this it seems like the online pass is completely unnecessary unless you just HAVE to have those credits. I get a kick out of just banking them, and I've got more money than I know what to do with just from playing the game in Explore mode.

Yes Gunwarrior stop being such a god damn monster.
So I don't get tricking at all. I am doing some monstrously wrong because I have trouble getting to silver on a lot of these tracks. Any tips? What in general should I be using boost for in the trick sections? How can I stop myself from leaving tricky? Should I be using manuals (or whatever they are called) to chain tricks like in Tony Hawk?
exactly how you said in that last sentence, you have to chain them together or you will lose tricky. there's some good tips in the OP but basically:
-use boost when grinding/manualing, or to gain speed before a big jump.
-on big jumps, use the signature trick. it's worth the most.
- flips are better than spins, but generally you should spin/flip on every trick if you can.
- if you bail, rewind and save the combo. you will get more points.
- try to finish a mountain in one long combo, it pays out huge at the end.
in the beginning, i bunny hop and do little tricks to build up my multiplier. i try to hit tricky as soon as possible too. generally, if it's a big jump, it's better to hold one trick. but, if you have a low multiplier, you might as well use it to build that up (though in my experience using it to get tricky is a better option)
I'm really starting to just focus on the racing events primarily, the gap between being average and completely-balls-out-awesome on the Trick It runs seems too wide to even make progress on. I will never hit 20m+ on some of these Trick It runs like you guys are doing but I know I can always go fast and hit turbo a lot and remain competitive on the races.
no, it's basically trying to pull bigger tricks and rack up the largest combo you can. i would consider myself 'pretty good' at this game, but then i go into global events and see people with 150 million point scores that are like, triple mine. it's insane, i'd love to see one of those people record a run, they must be amazing.

Watching that makes me really miss 60fps. Oh well, hopefully this game does well enough that will have a new SSX game with 60fps to look forward to in the future.

It's really too bad they don't have a feature to just watch people's runs.
What's the incentive to move forward in trick mode, does the time of the run effect the score?
If you stay in one area for too long two things will happen. One is that with every trick your multiplier will go down. At first it just goes down at one per trick, then after a while it becomes two, then three, etc. If you go too slow your flow (multiplier) will go down on its own until it reaches zero, at which point you start getting a "no flow" point penalty.
I'm also finding that its not really worth it to grind up your multiplier in the air. I don't know if I'm doing something differently than everyone else, but it seems like I usually score much higher when I limit myself to one trick a jump. Rails seem much better for raising the multiplier.
Also, I don't know how many people know this, but I just found out your geotags can expire (which means you get the full amount they are worth). I was always placing them in places people can reach

Not the time of the run exactly... but you'll notice that when you stop progressing forward in the track your score multiplier (bottom center of the screen) will start going down. So spamming a bunch of tricks without progressing forward in the track will soon enough completely kill your multiplier, making it less efficient in the long run.
Quick tip for anyone having trouble with death pits: hold L2 or whatever and try and grind the edge of the gap if you're near. This has saved me a hell of a lot of times where I've flown through the air, ground a crevasse, then flown off somewhere else - it's pretty exhilarating.
I'm really loving this game! I can see what people mean by 'annoying' courses, but I dunno, they just need a fair bit of practice is all. Fair enough, those pits aren't signposted the first time you run down, but after the 4th or 5th run, you should really be wisening up to them.
This game needs a patch for the controls; they are awful. Too many things going on. The button to grind terrain doesn't work properly either. In fact grinding is too random. Sometimes you grind, sometimes you don't. The game also needed a better tutorial to explain how to trick properly, not just what buttons to press. As someone else has already said, the direction, when you tense to jump, should lock, it's far too easy to spin off at an angle and fall down one of the MANY holes that litter the courses, some of which are designed very badly. How they expect you to score tricks on a course like Evil Genius I don't know as there is no room to move. There are jumps next to chasms with no warning. The chopper pilot 'helper' is a complete waste of time 'something something, mumble mumble, aw yeah big air, something mutter mumble, go left now!' oh too late i've fallen off the mountain for the 65th time.
The problem is the learning curve is not well designed - at all - and the rewind mechanism doesn't work at all as compensation for this. World Tour mode is just horrible. Silence would have been preferrabel to those cliche voice overs.
And what happened to the characters? They are all bland carbon copies of each other!

E; retried. Your current bracket is Diamond. DAYAMN.
I played horribly. Used about 5 rewinds. But OK.
Oh, also, if you want the million credit snowflake: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9BlaIJdY3E

This of course abuses the system as they were not meant to be placed like this, but that is the control.
Not really hard to get the chasms ones anyway.
