Final Fantasy is a long standing JRPG series which started in 1987. Yes it has a stupid name that everyone knows the story about. Yes it has a lot of genre cliches. Yes the first game totally rips off D&D which totally ripped off Tolkien who totally ripped off a bunch of norse and celtic myths. Swords, sorcery, crystals, knights, mages, dragons, chocobos, moogles, men named Cid.
MAIN SERIES
They've made
FOURTEEN main series games and over fifty spin off titles. Here's what the fans says about them.
I hate Final Fantasy because it is glitchy/too easy/too hard. Also DQ III is so much better.
I hate Final Fantasy II because beating yourself up to improve stats is extremely dumb and passwords are so cliche. This isn't a SAGA game!
I hate Final Fantasy III because some of the jobs suck and I don't wike chiwbi gwaphics waaaah.
I hate Final Fantasy IV because they made too many different versions of it. It's too hard/easy/bad 3D/bad flash gamey looking.
I hate Final Fantasy V because I played it on the original Playstation.
I hate Final Fantasy VI because I'm a souless monster without any redeeming qualities.
I hate Final Fantasy VII because it's cool to hate popular things.
I hate Final Fantasy VIII because it has teenagers and a nonsensical plot. I've also never played any other Japanese game.
I hate Final Fantasy IX because they have big heads. Also Tetra Master is legit terrible.
I hate Final Fantasy X because HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA (belt dress)
I hate Final Fantasy XI because it is too hard and too online, also all my friends played WoW.
I hate falling asleep while not playing Final Fantasy XII. Also its too British Star Wars.
I hate Final Fantasy XIII because it's not like FF (insert number here) and I don't like featureless tunnels, only two characters, main character death game over, or one of a million other things.
I hate Final Fantasy XIV because I have good taste.
SPIN OFFS
Everytime profits are down SE makes some more FF games. There are a lot of them, too many to list them all so I'll just continue the theme with the more popular ones.
I hate Final Fantasy Tactics because the Advance series is so much better.
I hate Final Fantasy Adventure because it's actually a Mana game/really is an FF spinoff (It's called FF Gaiden in Japan!)
I hate Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles because I have no friends.
I hate Final Fantasy Mystic Quest because it's too easy and I don't like having fun.
I hate Final Fantasy X-2 because it is pretty princess dress up and female empowerment scares me. Also I'm no good at math so Sphere Break is right out.
I hate Dissidia because IT'S NOT MY DADDY'S FF. Alternatively I don't like stupid names.
I hate FF XIII-2 because of preorder DLC, stupid time plots and...(to be continued)
THE FUTURE
We've got a decent slate of games on the horizon.
FF Type Zero: AKA Awesome FF game for PSP that will never be released in the west because the PSP is dead.
FF XIII Versus: Still not a fighting game.
KINGDOM HEARTS
Is light. Talk about it elsewhere.

Posts
That doesn't apply since it's not the last few pages of THIS thread, but does anyone have them handy all the same?
Ah, didn't think of that.
The Raveger class has more than just spells. It also includes the -strike abilities (i.e. Flamestrike, etc.) which base their damage off of the strength stat rather than the magic stat. Also, the stat boosts are not specific to that role. If you get a boost in the Raveger role then you also get it in every other role.
Although I can't even remember who's RAV crystarium I was specifically looking at, so for all I know Hope and Vanille don't have any +STR nodes there.
I mean, I guess if you wanted to make them a COM it would work, but that just sounds silly.
It works in the other direction too. The inclusion of the Ruin spells means that the more magical characters can make good Commandos. Hope, in particular, makes for a pretty good commando once he can spam a couple Ruingas a turn.
Plus it's good to not get too specialized, just in case you come across enemies that are strong to either physical or magical attacks, or in case you get inflicted with Fog or Pain.
FFI, II, VI, VII, VIII, IX, FFT:WotL: £4 each
Dissidia 1: £9
Dissidia 2: £14 + £1 for Aeris
FFIV + The After Years: £14
Pretty great deals for a bunch of games we doubtless all already own in one format or another! :P
They'll also get a boost from Enfire and the like as well, which can make high-strength users really nasty area attackers.
Fuck up? no. Get notably different end-game stats? Yes. Someone put that leveling guide in the OP please!
Short answer no. Certain bonuses from the larger nodes can be optimized though (str for Noel mag for Serah) but as has been mentioned it largely doesn't matter. Worst thing you can do in the game is infuse a unique monster and not be able to get another (you should know if you get one of those) or possibly use too many wild artifacts on side gates and be without one when you need one.
For early peaker offense I would grab
RAV Bucaboo (Steppe) (once you max it out it has Gilfinder II, which can be infused)
COM Dragoon (Tower) (cheap to develop)
Both get around 475str/375mag/2600hp
If you need a SEN get Pulsework Knight from Bresha 05. It has around 5200 hp when maxed out...with level 2 materials.
Also from last thread re: Chichu - it has Armor Breaker, which pretty much ignores physical damage resist.
There's only one that's really out of where you'll be looking anyway in Oerba 200AF iirc, the rest are in locations you probably won't miss and then the one bought via chips in the casino.
Either way, if you want to make sure you're utilizing them in the most ideal way first, make sure you're taking time paths that unlock all of the Breshda(I know I'm spelling that wrong) and Massif locations first, before anything else; though you'll have to unlock some other areas to get to all of them, but yeah. Completing all fragments in those areas gives you double CP which you'll want ASAP, but you still won't be able to get till fairly late in the game anyway.
I still haven't beaten the game, but I thought I was being pretty efficient about getting those fragments and I still ended up with two classes mastered and every other class having learned all abilities prior to unlocking double CP. I'll be straight mastered well before I finish all the side stuff I'm guessing, at this point.

I spent 20 minutes fighting His Royal Ripeness and got him to 999%, only to find he can't be staggered?
If I've got the stones to go toe to toe with him, Square, let me do it!

Also, I would pay money dollars for a 'past heroines outfit pack' with any of AC Tifa, X-2 Yuna, Ashe, or Lightning.
Come on, you all thought about it too. You know how much money they would make letting you recruit other FF characters?
Fun fact: when FFXIII was in the conceptual stages, they used updated models of YRP when testing out the battle system.

YRP?
EDIT: Nevermind, figured it out! Yuna, Rikku, and Paine for those who were likewise confused.
Had a couple of encounters with the clock puzzles;they're... almost fun? Like, if it gave you a constant start point or something they'd really be able to capitalise on the sense of satisfaction I got from beating them.
Can you fight it again or is it a once only thing?

In any case, I finally got around to starting XIII-2 (blame SC V) and I'm having a blast with it so far. I love lore/world building, so the time traveling is right up my alley. Also, I'm pleasantly surprised that I'm enjoying Noel and Serah as the main characters.

I read somewhere that one of the bosses on the steppe dropped the collectors item that sells for like 140k or something? Is that the Long Gui/

Bonus question: Does the amount of monsters in my set ever get higher than 4? I really want to have 6 monsters in my active set -- one for each job. Right now I'm running with a Com, Sab, Med. I'd like to add a Syn, Sab, and Sent to my team without sacrificing anything.
Anyway, I'm going through the Paradox endings and it's funny how easy some of these battles are compared to when I first attempted them (and died horrifying deaths). 2 left, including what I've heard is the hardest one.

I honestly don't know about adornments, but considering you can put shit on Omega, I assume you can do the same for Lightning/Amodar.

Oh and apparently the US PSN update has hit so anyone in the US that's interested in the DLC might want to check that out. Us PAL lackies will have to wait another 10 or so hours because SCEE sucks (though on the bright side, we get Malicious this week, which looks awesome).
I'm actually surprised.
