Doot doot doot, farming for a Dragon's Whisker. 1/16 chance for Stingray to appear, he takes fairly long to kill, and only a 6% chance of dropping it? There are SOME downsides to old RPGs.
Only thing I can say for sure about the FFVII PC release is that I'm waiting until others can tell me about how well it now runs before I even touch it.
12 yr old me might have had the infinite patience that only a young, rabid Final Fantasy fan with no PS1 can have dealing with the bugs, crashes and repeated installs I had to go through to get to play (including the hilariously infamous upside-down cinematics, though thankfuly only for a while) I don't think I have the will to go through anything close to that again, especially for a non-steam release.
ACTUALLY, it's not true that all the tracks in Theatrhythm are the originals, I read in an interview that they used the PS version of Gulg Volcano or whatever it is because the loop wasn't long enough in the original.
Re: FFVII PC, dunno about America but SE Europe opened an online download store on their website about a week ago. Don't think it's intended to be a Steam-beating affair.

If you're playing the GBA version, quicksave in the water. The second fight will always be a Stingray. Repeat as necessary.
Old news from E3. And exactly the opposite direction I want them to go in. I miss the classic sword and sorcery with a hint of sci-fi settings. Final Fantasy in a favela, where the rebels wield AKs, just isn't for me.
Isn't that exactly the premise for Versus? A 'real world' with fantasy elements?
Unfortunately. :P
I just miss the classic fantasy elements and multiple world maps. IX was the closet to what I'm looking for, but even that fell flat after the first continent.

Disappointed that the FF7 rerelease won't be on Steam. I suppose I'll get over it. I wonder when the game is going to release? And Dimensions, for that matter. I really want that one.

I'm under the impression that steam might be used for achievements and cloud saves.
Come on. I can't be the only one that thinks those screens look hideous. The actual game sounds pretty fun, but damn are those some ugly graphics. Also, I'd like to see them invent some new classes instead of just rehashing the classics.
The Memorist is a new job. Inventing new jobs would just be variants of the old jobs anyways. Or they would wreak havoc with any semblance of balance. Like most of the new jobs in FFV gba.
re: visuals, they don't look much different than snes era(odd, considering you're playing V which looks similar). Which is fine for me.
Actually, FFV has art direction, which is why the graphics are technologically worse but still look better. Things look like they belong together. This thing is just jarring and annoying to look at.
Also, there's no reason that new jobs would just be variants on old jobs. Obviously, people want to see a lot of their favorite jobs, but if they never did anything new than the series would just get stale.
This game just seems like it is riding FFV's dick super hard. Now, if you're going to copy any game, that's the one to copy, but the pessimist in me wants to think that they have no idea why FFV is fun. Instead, "Jobs!" While they are definitely very cool, what makes them work is how they meld together. FFX-2, for instance, had a Job system, but that game sucks because it is all over the place thematically and mechanically, and is filled with awful sidequests. Blue Dragon, too, wasn't very good, and that was very FFV-ish too.

I wonder why the VII thing is PC only? I mean, they're adding achievements, PC development is more or less 360 development; put it out there too.
Because the PC port already exists and they don't have the source code to port it to the 360. It's what we've been talking about for the last page.
I'm pretty sure you didn't read that entire sentence before responding to it. I'm not talking about remaking the game; the architecture for the 360 is very similar to PC's. I'm 100% aware they already have a PC version, thanks; my point is that it would be more or less trivial to "port" it to the 360 and they'd just increase their sales by a large amount.
I read what you said but it still doesn't make any sense. The 360 isn't running Windows, it can't just run Windows programs natively. And even if it could, there's no way Microsoft would let those kind of "ports" through cert because they'd open up a crapload of security issues.

How does FF dimensions not have art direction? Perhaps you could elaborate. I don't understand this reaction based on a few screens.
There is a new ability type named 'Fusion abilities' similar to dual techs from chrono trigger(except more, and you wouldn't necessarily require two characters). This was not present in FF V. Perhaps if you looked at the job list, you'd realize that there are a few jobs that weren't even present in FF V(Dark Knight, Devout, Magus). There are also more skill slots present.
They also added Memorist, which is new. The jobs have been modified with skills of previous jobs being added to others. I'm not sure what you want in terms of new jobs. What would they be except new names for what will be dealing damage, healing, or whatever else? There isn't exactly a lot of room for new content in this regard.
I'm not sure how you can come to the conclusion that the jobs in FF Dimensions do not meld well together(?), without having played it.

I swear to god trying to rationalize some of squeenixes business decisions is enough to make your head explode. Porting VII to PC at long last is an obvious attempt to get some cashflow going without having to make a new game, so why not put it on steam and make $Texas?
Instead they'll release it in an obscure physical only format, no one will bother to buy it, they'll write the whole thing off as a failure and not bother to port any of the others.
"the other." Singular. VIII was the only other game to get a PC port as well.
Not that they couldn't port over the others if they so wanted to. It's not something I'd hold my breath for, but I wouldn't be completely surprised. iOS versions of III exist, after all.

Dimensions looks to rip on FF3 for jobs, not 5.
Also Fusion abilities are ripped from FF4 After Years. Sprite style looks to be ripped from the PSP FF1/2 remake or FF4 complete. Take your pick.
Basically its a game that borrows heavily, but I would still play the hell out of it given an opportunity.
Four Heroes of Light had a ton of different classes that they could have culled some from, shame they didn't. Even if the moves in said classes werent always that original.

No I'm serious.
Actually, Multiplayer blitzball would be pretty rad.
Fuck the haters, I've never played an optional mini-side-game as much as I played Blitzball back in the day.
Yep! I loved Blitzball as far as 'obligatory' side quests go - needed to do it to go full completion, getting Wakka's ultimate stuff - and had a lot more fun doing that then the Lightning Dodging or FFVIII's card thing or even Chocobo Breeding in VII. Except...

That could be the source of all my frustrations. I seem to recall raging at the goalies with a quarter of my SH for their CH managing to catch Jecht Shot 2's "invisible shot" - bullshit.
Wonder how many Blitzball related achievements the HD remaster is gonna have. :P
ALSO! I wonder if they're gonna leave exploits intact, like passing to farm xp, or the Monster Arena Tonberry Trick.
Oh brilliant

I had reservations about Theatrhythm, especially since the gameplay seemed like a simplified version of Elite Beat Agents, but I'm glad to report that the game is amazingly delightful. The higher difficulties can be brutal, too, and I love it!

I. Hate. Square. Enix.
Why even waste the time/money "re-porting" FFVII when it's already ported to PC and optimized by fans? Why not HD remake that shit as it will practically sell itself? Why not include it on Steam for virtually free money and advertising? Why not port FFIX? Why'd you turn off my Tetra Master servers?

Yeah, it's fun enough. I would still probably have liked it more if it were more of an EBA clone (at least for the EMS stages), but there's enough game to enjoy and the music sounds pretty great on headphones. I never listen to game soundtracks outside the context of actually playing a game, so having this sort of thing is nice. There's some big omissions in song selection, but given the sheer breadth of tracks available I think they chose pretty well for the on-cart songs.
I think my only gripe with the game is that I'd have liked to have more characters available. They're barely playable in any real sense, sure, but one character from each game (plus the 3 unlockable characters) is still somewhat disappointing. Two characters from each game (at least SNES era and onward) would have been cool.
The pack-in stylus is also really nice. I think I'm going to modify it to remove the sticker holder from the end, so it fits better within my 3DS case. It looks like I should be able to just yank it off with some pliers.

I'm repeating myself quite a bit but a "re-port" is not possible. They do not have the code to do so. This is the same old port that already existed, likely with a wrapper that adds the new functionality.
And they can't use the fan optimizations because they don't own that work and thus, aren't allowed to make a profit off it.
Prolly something of a lost in translation thing. She can talk fine, as you find out in her heartfelt plea on Disk 3, but speaks in short, authoritative commands instead.
I always liked to think that Fujin was basically just along for the ride for the most part. You know. Watching out for raijin in case he did something MONUMENTALLY stupid.
