    haha, oh man

Man-Thing for breakout character of 2012

The way I see it, the two things that you can do with Man-Thing is bring back his human persona (which would make him too much like Swamp Thing) or tie him to a more human character who can act as the audience's eyes and ears.

I say bring on Howard the Duck.

Infernal Man-Thing? Sounds like Satanna might be co-starring in the book with him. She sure was interested enough in him during her first stint with the Thunderbolts.

If you can't beat them, arrange to have them beaten in your presence.

    1. That happened multiple times to him already
    2. Easily done, he's had a supporting cast before

they can tie him to Jennifer Kale or other people from Citrusville

pairing Man-Thing and Satanna for mystical adventures seems like a pretty darn good idea to me

    hey, i just remembered

Satana and Jennifer Kale have teamed up together before

considering that Kale premiered in Man-Thing, along with her many appearances in his series and her brief appearance in Thunderbolts, it'd still make sense to have her in the book, and considering how much Satana likes Man-Thing in Thunderbolts, all three together in the book would work well enough

It'll be like a magical, interdimensional Three's Company.

Man-Thing IS still one of the few Marvel characters who have had their own movie, too :).

i am praying that there's a Ted Sallis nod in the Avengers movie/franchise

say he's a dude that worked on studying the super soldier serum or something

    he fits in perfectly

Much as I like Man-Thing, I think he works best in a team setting like Thunderbolts, where he gets to hang out in the background, and occasionally do something really cool.

That said, I think it's certainly possible to make a really interesting Man-Thing solo series. But, at a time when projects like Brian Wood's Victor Von Doom and Van Lente's Destroyers are being cancelled before they even ship, I have a hard time imagining Marvel would risk publishing a Man-Thing series.

  • wirehead26wirehead26 Registered User regular
The problem with a Man-Thing series is that if Marvel did it properly it would be too similiar to the current Swamp Thing book which I hear is excellent. But it's Scott Snyder so it should be.

    I'M NOT FINISHED WITH YOU!!!

The characters aren't really anything like one another, though.

Swamp Thing remained a normal dude, mentally, following his transformation.

Man-Thing's consciousness was either destroyed, or sublimated so far beneath an alien intelligence, as to be non-existent.

That means that you could watch Swamp Thing grow and change as a character, learning about his new circumstances, and eventually growing to accept and even embrace them.

Man-Thing's all about other people's reaction to him. He's not so much a character, as an event. He's a thing that happens to other people's lives, and we get to see what that means for those people.

Of course, that makes the moments where he does display emotion, and personality, all the more interesting.

Still, my ideal Man-Thing book would be a lot like my ideal Spectre book. The emphasis isn't so much on the title character, as it is the poor people who are unfortunate enough to wind up in their world.

I would kill for a good Spectre book.

Unfortunately, the Spectre would soon after arrive to deliver you a hilariously ironic death.

Probably something involving a printing press.

Thunderbolts have made me love Man-Thing and Satana, so if that pairing exists in this book, I'll take it.

Specifically, one of those makeup ads where they photoshop Beyonce to make her a little less black.

Man-Thing and Satana would be swell.

Anyway, if Kelly Sue really is writing a Captain Marvel book starring Carol Danvers, I'll buy it until I have reason not to buy it. At least that's the plan for now.

Aside from Hulk being DumbHulk Avengers Assemble was pretty dang fun and light hearted

felt way more Avengers Prime than Avengers v4

It read like it should have been the first issue after Siege ended. It actually felt more like what the first issue of Justice League should have been, as a team is together, they're heroes, that's all you need to know. Everyone but Cap has some action time, yet everyone is in the book, and they all feel correctly characterized, except for Hulk. The art was good as well.

It feels like it's trying to be so easy access for the illusive new reader who might know the generalities of the Marvel universe that it ignores some of the other things going on. I thought Tony was still broke, and while they never had any lines the art made it seem like Hawkeye and Mockingbird were still together, and Hulk was dumb and being chased by the army again, Thor's here, and Latveria for standard location #1 for bad guys. It feels even more stand apart than Astonishing X-Men did.

One thing that seemed really out of place was the credits page, where it says "Hawkeye's costume designed by BRYAN HITCH." Congrats? It seemed so pointless, not to mention we've seen it around for the past three months before in comics, and people design costumes all the time.

Out of all the books with Avengers in the name, it was the best in recent month.

  • BlankZoeBlankZoe Registered User regular
While I definitely think things were simplified for new readers, Tony hasn't been broke broke.

He had a line sometime after Siege where he says that he is broke for his usual standard of living, which means he is still very much rich.

Every few years Tony loses his company, starts another and becomes super-wealthy again. He must be jaded from it happening so many times.

Hey, guy! As that illusive new reader, I just want to say that I appreciate this. I picked up an issue of the Avengers last week and Thor not being on the team was the least of my problems.

I had no idea what was going on.

The issue is that the Avengers right now are wrapped up in this giant plotline spanning two books that's been going on since October. I got on just in time, but I know a lot about the Avengers and I'm still lost at points.

it doesn't help that even though it feels a bit confusing

    Not much seems to happen

It's like the comic book equivalent of mild stagflation

Norman Osborn and HAMMER are back

They have AIM and Hydra on side

Norman is doing his "I, Norman Osborn, speak for the American people!" thing again

The Avengers got beaten up and captured etc

  • Witch_Hunter_84Witch_Hunter_84 Registered User regular
Norman Osborne has united HAMMER, A.I.M., Hydra, and built a new team of Dark Avengers in an attempt to take out the current Avengers teams; as well as regaining his old position by slinging mud at them in the public eye.

If you can't beat them, arrange to have them beaten in your presence.

I thought about buying Avengers Assemble, but upon flipping through it, saw that Mark Bagley's art was looking pretty rough. I think it's mostly the colorist, but man, that was not a great looking book. Certainly not what I'd think Marvel would lead with, as far as tempting new readers and movie-goers.

  • AriviaArivia I Like A Challenge Earth-1Registered User regular
I'd get Avengers Assemble, but I'm already buying some absurd amount of Avengers stuff.

I flipped through Avengers because ... I don't know why. Anyway, I don't know what to think. I'd rather see the Avengers and New Avengers (ALL of them. ) just wading through a human tidal wave of HAMMER/AIM/Hydra goons with superweapons and the occassional Dark Avenger until they are victoriously standing over a pile twenty people deep rather than
Them using the same tactic to stop Norman that Bendis had them use to stop the Super Adaptoid.

    Well to be fair
Norman pretty much was the Super Adaptoid.

  • AriviaArivia I Like A Challenge Earth-1Registered User regular
Okay, yeah, that ending to the HAMMER War was stupid. A lot of wasted potential there, and all my sympathy for Norman gone too.

But! Acuna's art finally clicked with me this issue. So moody / so good.

Man the only sympathy you should have for Norman Osborn is that he's totally insane and really never going to get proper treatment because he'll be a villain forever
