    Borfase was...an odd one.

I have been waaaaay more upset by people online than in real life.

Usually people in rl are mean because you did something to upset them, or because they're just in a mood, in which case you can confront them and work things out.

People online who are mean, well, there's just no reason for it. Which means someone went to the time and trouble to single you out to be mean to just for the sake of being mean. And sometimes they can get really nasty, too.

I once had a series of PMs from a H&A/G&T forumer (of all people!) who went on and on about my appearance and how ugly I was... like, why?!

And then there was Borfase, who was seriously threatening to beat me up if he ever saw me, and worse.

    seriously?

I hope that bullshit hasn't happened recently, Janson

Nah, this was all pre-2007, really, the forums as a whole have been waaaay mellower and nicer the past 4-5 years. And I think most of the aggravating forumers were aggravating enough to other people that they were eventually banned, anyway!

But yeah, those are just two of the things that happened (there was a lot of other abuse from another forumer, too, but I more felt sorry for him as I think he was genuinely troubled, and I tried not to take it too personally).

I've seen online circlejerks thousands strong, when in reality you don't have enough people in most universities get more then 10 or so people willing to devote their time to circlejerking each other

The internet is simultaniously giving everyone a pat on the back and telling them they're right, its goddamn tricksy like that

I have to say, though, that even back when we had a few more oddities like Borfase around, these were always great, supportive forums. And now... well, look at Josh's thread, or Secret Saints, or Solid Saints! And there are plenty more examples besides.

I'm on forums where the average age of the population is perhaps 30-40 (i.e. the visa forums), and the immaturity and insensitivity and general childishness on display there is pretty staggering. Many of the chief offenders are men aged 50+!

if I'm mean to you it means I like you!

unless I don't, in which case you should actually be able to discern the type of mean I am being

Tube does a really good job.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

I think it helps within this community that I have met so many people in real life. Have a face to put to a name.

Reducing anonymity definitely helps this place be not a shithole

I definitely love Tube, but I also agree that reducing anonymity and also just having some fabulous people in general to set the tone/standards have contributed, too.

I wish more Toronto forumers would come out to play.

A bunch of D&D forumers have been doing a monthly dinner thing and it's been pretty great, but I'm the only person from SE there! If any of you guys are from the GTA and regular posters here it'd be awesome to have you along.

The Game is actually not about how awesome PUA is

It's about how fucking horrendous it is and how it destroys lives

I mean it starts off with Mystery having a complete breakdown for fuck's sake

But Neil Strauss likes money and went back to doing it

Oh I sure agree with that. It's just that at least some of the PUAs seem like they want to have a good personality, you know, actually be a better person. But most of their followers are assholes.

Also, this forum goes forward way faster than I can respond to.
