...you get a free house? Are you you're not thinking of Adessa?

Whoops, sorry I was. It's late! The real answer below!
The Rathir house should come from completing the Scholia Arcana faction quests.

Oh, all right. I just did that last suite of sidequests, so now I've got Shardfall and Rithen on the slate.

The high level unique items really aren't bad. I found a 86 dam/38 pierce/+15% crit/+15% crit dam/+15% dam @ night bow. Totally using it now, it's only a tad weaker than my crafted one, but it has a really nice graphic.

Given that this game is, at least for the moment, not the hardest in the world I'm going for whatever I think looks cooler instead of stats.

Though with this combat system I truly do hope they increase the difficulty in future patches. It's deep enough that I want to be challenged more.

If they let us pick visuals for our crafted gear I would buy _another_ copy. I've got about 14 odd full sets colllected atm (and god knows how many stray pieces) and I gotta say: the set items have infinitely better looking visuals than the standard gear. A lot of the armor you see npcs wear is available to the player in the form of set items. I'd wear some of them...but I kinda like my 6k dagger crits :)

Question about one of the world fetch quests. I have to find a bunch of smutty books and one is on a book shelf in a room where people always seem to be. I have no points in stealth, so I can't take it without getting caught. Should I just nab it and run and hope they forget about me after a while? Seems silly that 3 people who's lives I've saved would kill me over taking some book porn!

I've got a little stealth, and that's what I've done with an alarming number of fetch quest things.

Of course, Sir Sagrell is supposed to be a charming rogue, so I'm just playing to my ballad.

If you really are worried you can just steal it and then immediately pay the really really cheap fine and be about your b business.

Grab it and run, If you get caught you have to pay a fine, but you get to keep the book.

    Smokebomb.

When used outside of combat it doesn't damage friendlies, but still puts you into super stealth for 6 seconds. You can steal/pickpocket from super stealth in broad daylight in front of a dozen witnesses while dressed like a christmas tree. You probably don't have it yet, come to think of it. Such a handy skill for murder and robbery.

So, I killed the questgiver lady after finishing that Maiden's ring quest. She had a book of traveller's tales/limericks, and I read it. It was about a womanizer who got drunk and lost in the woods

Then he fucked a bear... yeah.

    Also, Might/Finesse is awesome

Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.

You need a guard / militia to arrest you. Normal NPCs will just come up and hit on you.

Ugh, I never even thought of this.

Sorry DrunkMc...I've never had that happen to me before. I had to steal one of the Til's Books from a bookshelf right next to a guard and I just stole, paid the fine, and then left with it no problem.

    Quest question.
The magic urns with the crystals near the super religious town in the plains. Any way to actually complete it or is it just permanent? I did the 3 crystals that I found there and got the boggart, couldn't figure out what to do with the green one from town.

Its a Task, not a quest, and most Tasks are just repeatable stuff you can do for money. This one you can repeat to give yourself buffs. But you're stuck with it in your log forever.

I just walked into the Plains after finishing the Desert and was blown away by how pretty they looked. And was then promptly disappointed by the grey monsters.

    But still, pretty!

  • ViskodViskod Registered User regular
Yeah I went to the desert after the plains and everything was grey the entire zone. Crossed the ocean and was like YAY! Yellow named monsters! Then I leveled once and they were grey again. :(

I've found the game is pleasantly hard with no blacksmithing, no sagecraft, no alchemy. You can toss in no reckoning if you like.

My full sorcery character has had some tough fights like that.

It also makes me appreciate the unique/set items, as some of them are pretty good.

Yeah, I sold some of my blacksmithed gear and swapped to random purples. I'm only wearing two "maxed out" pieces of gear right now, chest armor with +40% armor, 2 health regen, and +1 skills. And a shield with +32% block efficiency and +19% crit.

I found a pair of boots with +10% stun duration and +10% stun chance, as well as 15% health. Since you can't get that +stun on crafted gear and I'm using three different stun abilities (Quake, Frost Trap, Smoke Bomb) I think I may just use those forever.

But with those changes, I'm finding the game to still not be very hard, but I'm actually using potions now at least. I did end up having to craft some gloves with 23% elemental resist though, since Mages were stun-locking and murdering me. And Sprite Showdown in the House of Valor is total BS.

Been wondering about all the trouble people have(me) completing sets. I've never gotten the same piece of set gear(I remember this happening all the time in Diablo 2 for instance). Wondering if each piece of set gear essentially spawns once in the world and if you happen to never go past that chest you'll never see it. That or the drop rates are just really low.

So, from what I understand, there's no reason I couldn't respec from full sorcery to might or finesse as long as I had the gear (or bought it), right? I mean, no need to restart or anything like that. It just wipes everything clean, I pick new skill points, my destiny, and equip different stuff? I think the only thing I have on me that wouldn't respec is a single sagecraft book I found and read.

    I'll explain!

So Alabastra is an entire country? i guess, not exactly a continent. At this point in the game, you are about level 30, have over 1 million gold (with nothing to spend it on), and know your character well enough to end any fight in under 30 seconds.

They decided to populate the entire country of Alabastra with recycled enemies. In fact, I dont think Klurikon even introduced a new enemy type. It basically got to the point where combat was more time consuming than rewarding because the combat was effortless and the loot was meaningless. It got boring.

I'm with you on this. Especially since the next main quest marker is literally at the very end of the place, I pretty much ran straight to it, only slowing down to do sidequests that didn't involve going too far out of the way.

    That's very cool.

Shield Bash is something I discovered by accident. I put 4 points in Shield Mastery to get to the second tier of Might. Except I have the +1 skills gem so during a fight I inadvertently bashed an enemy. When I realized he staggered long enough to get a combo started, I fell in love.

I wish my wife and I could trade gear. She's playing a full caster, and I'm playing a Might character with sorc stuff as backup (barrier, heals, chakrams). Guess which awesome equipment we both find? Yea...

I'm working on raising Sagecraft but I almost wonder if it's worth it. I won't be doing Blacksmithing or Alchemy at all, just Sagecraft, but unless there's a way to add sockets to items I feel I should remove the points and put them somewhere else like Dispelling. I've already maxed Detect Hidden and Persuasion.

And don't worry, we are spreading the word. ;-) One question: I know you can't (and won't, and shouldn't) release hard sales numbers, but how were initial shipments? My wife is the gaming supervisor at her Best Buy, and they only got a few copies for each system. By the next day they were down to a single PS3 copy, and from the sound of things the local Gamestop was in a similar shape. Did retailers not order enough, or did EA not send enough out? Both?

I'm spending early pts, ALL, on detect hidden and the alchemy one.
I think the early returns are going to exceed most peoples expectations except mine. I'm guessing you never feel like your game gets the attention it deserves as a 3rd party developer. My personal PR person has had an enormous impact, from getting me on Radio Row at the Super Bowl to Conan to Kimmel, and much more. We've had to go guerilla in many ways.
All that being said it's clear to me that we are going to have to rely on players to make this game what we want/need it to be. I'm ok with that, if we do then we'll have done what I believed we can, if not, well, we won't have.
Our vision is to be our own publisher, that's going to take herculean efforts by so many different folks, but mostly it will rely on us putting our SOLID software that's fun as hell.
To the earlier DLC comment, ya, how cool are those videos:) You'll really start to get some insight in Amalur, Copernicus and our races and lore, with the DLC.

  • KlykaKlyka DO you have any SPARE BATTERIES?Registered User regular
I really do wonder what Copernicus is like.
I don't want to believe it's just a another EQ/WoW style MMO with totally non engaging actionbar combat where you just stand in place.
But I am also kinda afraid it will be since it's been so long in development :(
