I was recently playing a friends' PS3 copy and got really hooked on the gameplay with the controller vs. mouse/keyboard. Is there a way I can use my PS3 controller in my pc/steam copy at home? I know people have mentioned 360 controllers, and I've used the sixaxis in the past for The Last Remnant (though it was surprisingly tricky to set up).
I think if I'm going to restart my PC save or start a new game, I'm going to need a controller; running through countless miles of zone is much easier gently holding up a thumb paddle vs. keyboard/mouse.

Yes, that's a lot better than the gamefaqs thread.
Is there a similar matrix for mastercrafting bonuses out there? I was messing around with it and they didn't seem to be random, like I thought they were.
Helms get +exp
Chest gets +physical resistance
Legs get +bleed resistance
Boots get +health
Gloves get +mana
Shields get +block efficiency
Weapons get +damage
The size of the bonus depends on the quality of the material (e.g. Trollhide gets +5% exp on the helm, Dreadscale gets +6%)

Ah, thanks.

This "Wink and a Smile" achievement, for succeeding at 50 Persuasion attempts is ridiculous. I've played now for 67 hours, completed almost 200 quests, invested as often as possible early on in Persuasion (maxed it out at the earliest opportunity, along with Detect Hidden), and have literally never failed a Persuasion attempt ... and I still don't have it. What's worse is that the game doesn't keep track of my successes in the Statistics tab, so I really have no idea how close or far away I am from getting it to pop. All I can do now is basically go back and complete side-quests until I unlock the achievement. I mean, don't get me wrong: I like tough achievements, but when one skill-related achievement is to craft a single piece of equipment, or a single epic gem, or whatever, and another still won't pop even after 67 hours for a character that's specialized in Persuasion ... that's really dumb.
All I have left to get is the Scholia Arcana quest, Green Thumb, and Wink and a Smile, then I'll be 1000/1000 on KoA.

I've completed all the side quests as I go and got Wink and a Smile shortly before I completed the Western Continent. So they're there.
I still need a few story related ones, 100 parries, Green Thumb, all the Lorestones, and kill a monster +4 levels.
The last should be easy enough to get on a new game, but I'm not looking forward to Green Thumb.
Green Thumb is something that you need to track from the beginning, because I have no clue what ingredient I need to get more of. It could be Sea Flax, Snow Flakes, or Eel Petals. IDK!
I also need to go on a crime spree. Lorestones I'll get when I clear the last area, along with beating it on hard. Then I can put this game on DLC hold~

My best guess is that I haven't harvested 10 Essence of Fate. I think I've only found 2-3 plants.

I've yet to pull up the cheevo list. Keeping it that way.

Probably the best plan. Fortunately, I haven't had to go out of my way yet to get any of them, except for hitting something 5 times while it was in the air.

People are saying that Essence of Fate isn't needed for that achievement. Or at least skimming the various forums a few people have posted in other forums stating they never harvested the plant for it and still got the achieve. The plants are kind of hidden.

Ugh. I even have the dowsing rod.
It's a good thing I feel no compulsion to do achievements based on needless collection. Well, most of the time at least.
I only go out of my way to pick up achievements on games I really like. Kingdoms of Amalur is definitely one of those games. Green Thumb is going to be a total pain in the ass, but it shouldn't take too long; I plan to just write up a list of all the plants, and then travel through each area in the game world, marking off on the sheet every time I pick something up. Tedious, but not like, super difficult or anything. I guess I don't know why Wink and a Smile's taking me so long. I was sort of going out of my way to get it in the first place. I'm sure I'm not too far off.

By the end of this month I'll likely hit 100k gamerscore. I play the metagame a fair bit. :P
I know for sure I've harvested less than 10 Essence from plants though. I'll get back to you on whether or not I pop it tonight after getting a few more of those three I'm thinking I'm short on.

So I finally got to the last boss, and obligatory commentary on difficulty aside, I have to say:
That was one of the most awesome looking dragon vs player fights I've ever seen. You really got the sense of just... its sheer size and depth when you were fighting it.
Totally should have one shotted me or took off at least 3/4ths of my HP if I got hit though. Just sayin'.
Also RE: Green Thumb - Personally confirming that you don't need to collect Essence of Fate plants to get it.

Yes they do. Though they make for nice heal pots when that summon is upgraded. Saunter into town and it just starts slaughtering all chickens in sight, and it heals for the amount of damage it hits for... not the amount of HP the monster has..so 1 chicken usually = full heal.
I really hate that so many of the uniques and set items look so good but, generally, are entirely useless by the time you get them if you have done anything with crafting.
I mean, sure, you could hold back on crafting I suppose to make them fell more useful, but knowing what I could make would be rough to know that I could spend a few minutes and make something that does twice the damage.
And as pure might, large enemy fights get to be so tedious that I can't imagine playing the game doing half the damage you could potentially do.
On that note, blacksmithing making overpowered equipment or not, Might needs some major buffs. It has nothing that can do the sheer damage as quickly and as easily as Finesse or Sorcery. It's "final" attack, while good at clearing rooms of weaker enemies, is useless on large enemies and you're limited to just whittling away at them till they go down and/or being one of the magical few people that can actually parry well.
I got really incredibly lucky and got two pieces of Frostweave for my Sorcery playthrough within like three hours.
Which means I got to the point where you get the only good set bonus.
The 3-piece is okay. Not world beating, but at that level, if you had that much of the set, it's pretty good.
Part of Might's problem is that Quake has such awful scaling that it's not really all that great past Level 15 or so. The upgrades don't help it enough.
Might would be really frustrating without Harpoon. With it, it's only frustrating with that on cooldown.
House of valor side DLC mission is badass and u get some cools stuff. "Motrost Hammer" And Kentigans Hood and Chausses idk why they dont have a full set of those
Maybe for KoA 2, blacksmith can be changed to provide augmentations for weapons you currently own already, which would offer upgrades much in the same way components do now.
So, any thoughts given to what kinds of other Player trees you guys would like to see?
- Despite having a punching animation, there was no fist weaponry. It's be cool to see a Martial Artist or Unarmed branch with the ability to do cool stuff like grappling.
- The Fae Gorta was a neat idea, but I'd like to see it taken a step further with a Summoner tree. Pets, familiars, conjure minions. The idea being your assigned spells acting as the commands.
Also, I'd kill for an option to quickswitch between two predetermined weapon sets. Something that could, at the touch of a button, swap my weapons mid combo.

Jesus Christ this games guide. I could kill someone with this thing with remarkably little effort. I think I'll just start a new character instead of waiting on a patch now that I have a sure fire way to not miss anything.
So the guide has level ranges for all the zones, those are constant right? Like I won't screw myself out of higher level things to kill if I run through an area just to find a skill book or trainer?
Like when it says a place is 5-22 then all the beasties there will go up to 22 no matter how low level I go through there right?

New game+ nightmare mode kkthx.
Currently playing: GW2 and TSW
I only have like four points in BS.
Still the most fun thing I've played since Bastion.
As for that purple component: it's part of a quest. You cannot salvage purple components except for that one, to my knowledge.

I've gotten 2 Salamander Tails with different damages in various places.
