Working out whether the price is worth it is kinda hard, unless we know how much all that content already developed and residing inside the disk customers have already paid for is going to be priced at, when Capcom eventually deems customers worthy of spending more money on a game they have already paid for.
The problem here is that for the bulk of people buying the game, they can't speak with their wallets. In order to stay "competitive" you need access to all of the characters, and most of Capcom's target audience for their fighting games are those "competitive" players. Sure, they will complain a lot, but they will still buy it. They will buy all of it. Their very style of play demands it.
They have to punish fools for buying secondhand. The fact that their method for doing so punishes their loyal day-one customers disproportionately, and rewards second-hand buyers is just the icing on the cake.

I know you're being facetious, but that's actually not a bad point either. The whole "people who are paying more having to do so on top of already having to pay more initially" angle.
Capcom is basically preventing people from giving them money in exchange for the cold cuts despite the people who bought the sandwich already having the cold cuts but are just unable to access it until months later after other customers get the cold cuts for free with their sandwich.

It should be understood by now that Capcom is just generally a shit company.
They make Marvel vs Capcom 3, then patch it something like twice because they catch the money bug and release Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 about a year later and so have no interest in providing decent support for MvC3. In the meantime, they release terribly overpriced DLC costumes and a couple of characters. Then when UMvC3 comes out, you would still have to buy all those stupid costumes and the DLC characters despite owning the "Ultimate" version of the game. That doesn't even include Capcom's atrocious notions of game balance and the kind of things that actually need work, such as foregoing work on balancing the game in favor of putting out the "Heroes and Heralds" mode, which is fun for about ten minutes because it's even more horribly broken than the regular game.
And then we have the utter insanity involving the Megaman franchise and Capcom's inept dedication to burying it. And the bizarre choices regarding the awful new direction of the Devil May Cry series (I don't even like that series and it's clear they're screwing it up).
That Capcom is a garbage company should just be a given at this point.

I have to disagree there. If you buy a disc with data on it with the understanding that the disc contains the product, you have a right to the data on the disc. You don't pay X dollars for Windows 7 Super Edition and then have to pay another bit of cash to get the really extra stuff that's already on the disc.
This is a 100% bullshit tactic to me where they're just putting what should be standard content behind a paygate. I may detest what Bioware is doing with the ME3 DLC content, but I can at least see the argument there (you do actually have to download the content, after all).

Developing DLC to be released, finishing it long before the game is even out, and withholding many fan favorites so this isn't simply a small pack of shit is going to strike many people as basically nickle and diming people in order to effectively raise the cost of the game for people who care about having "complete" game (12 characters is no small amount so this isn't like a small mission pack or anything). The game is seen as less than complete because the DLC appears to have been developed as part of the normal development process and then withheld from being used mainly to sell at a later date rather than being too incomplete or whatever.

If not, then people who purchased the game received exactly the character roster that they paid for. Capcom didn't arbitrarily take things away from them, the terms of the deal were clear from the start. Capcom is under no obligation to amend that agreement, to feel like giving them more than they agreed to pay for.

I'm not concerned with your logic or the nature of your opinion. I'm only addressing your implication that "maturity" is in any way governed or shown by how much you like or dislike this issue. It is not appropriate to claim that not liking this means they lack maturity. It might be appropriate to claim that their method of expressing themselves lacks maturity if their method of handling it is excessively disfunctional or disruptive, but that's a separate issue entirely. In most cases bringing up maturity at all does nothing but put people against you because they feel insulted, even if you did not mean to.
A fully mature adult can dislike this for rational reasons. You may not agree with them, but that doesn't discredit their maturity. Stick to addressing the argument itself.

It would be like a restaurant selling you a plate that has a burger and fries on it, but no, sorry, you can't eat the fries. That will be extra.
There is a sides menu for a reason. There is a system for DLC for a reason.
Except that the fries are invisible, the only reason that you even know they're there is that someone else who analyzed the weight of the plate told you about them, and the fact that they're there means that if you decide that you do want them, all the server has to do is make them visible rather than having the kitchen make them from scratch while you wait.
On-disk DLC is strictly superior to downloaded DLC in every way that I can think of, and yet people are complaining about it as if were the opposite.

I base this on my assumption that if the character DLC did not exist at all, there would be fewer complaints about it (in this case about the characters not existing at all), despite the fact that its existence does not hurt the product in any way, even if you choose not to pay for it.

There are plenty of companies demonstrating comparatively positive DLC models for gamers.
These are the assholes who ruined Breath of Fire. They're basically in full on [Fuck Goons] mode, and have been for the past decade.
I hope you mean ruin in the sense that they have done nothing with the series. If you're saying that the last game, Dragon Quarter, was horrible, then it's pistols at high noon friend.
How many competitive players are there really? I bet you that it's kids who want to play the game with their friends after school, and old people like me who are simply nostalgic for the good ol' days of SF2 that make up the bulk of Capcoms sales.
My advice is to not get suckered into buying DLC unless it REALLY provides value (Ex. Mushihimesama black label).
If not, then people who purchased the game received exactly the character roster that they paid for. Capcom didn't arbitrarily take things away from them, the terms of the deal were clear from the start. Capcom is under no obligation to amend that agreement, to feel like giving them more than they agreed to pay for.
I'm not concerned with your logic or the nature of your opinion. I'm only addressing your implication that "maturity" is in any way governed or shown by how much you like or dislike this issue. It is not appropriate to claim that not liking this means they lack maturity. It might be appropriate to claim that their method of expressing themselves lacks maturity if their method of handling it is excessively disfunctional or disruptive, but that's a separate issue entirely. In most cases bringing up maturity at all does nothing but put people against you because they feel insulted, even if you did not mean to.
A fully mature adult can dislike this for rational reasons. You may not agree with them, but that doesn't discredit their maturity. Stick to addressing the argument itself.
Capcom has concocted a system whereby loyal day one customers are forced to pay more than some dude who picks it up at Gamestop, because that dude can get all of the DLC for less than it cost to buy the game. There is no real reason for this other than "MONETIZATION".

They aren't even trying to hide the fact that this content was made along with the rest of the game. And the reasoning they provided makes no sense at all.
I would suggest either allowing the possibility of middle ground, or not bothering with the discussion, because otherwise you will change no minds.
I should note, however, that I have done no research at all on Capcom and that it is still possible that I would decide they weren't being dicks had I done so (I mean, its Capcom, so its unlikely. But its not impossible).
They made a product that didn't do it for the customers, and then blamed said customers for being entirely reliable and predictable, before deciding to punish the customers for their disobedience by not creating any more of the product that people actually wanted to buy.
Capcom is going to go the way of Interplay, and it's going to be fucking hilarious to see the company go into full-on meltdown.

Capcom got caught doing this one too many times.
Compound that with the fact that they lied about this DLC (which was finished before launch) and were planning to delay it until the fall (to boost sales of the Vita version) and it has gotten people extra pissed.
MvC2 or SFA3 would cost at least $100 today if they did it like that. Hell, some people already spent that much on MvC3.

I don't see how exactly the existence of DLC factors into half-year-old used games being cheaper than near-release new games.

There is a sides menu for a reason. There is a system for DLC for a reason.
If you're going to partition content, you obviously don't care about being fair. So, wouldn't it make sense to force secondhand buyers had to pay the new price in order to stay current with those who gave the game company their money on day one and provided it with tangible data with which one can assuage stock-holders?

Except that the fries are invisible, the only reason that you even know they're there is that someone else who analyzed the weight of the plate told you about them, and the fact that they're there means that if you decide that you do want them, all the server has to do is make them visible rather than having the kitchen make them from scratch while you wait.
On-disk DLC is strictly superior to downloaded DLC in every way that I can think of, and yet people are complaining about it as if were the opposite.
