How many of you work or have worked in the gaming industry? How many of you have worked in QA as a Tester?
I first entered the industry as a Tester in 2005. I got to work on the 360 before it was released to the public. However, I had to work on Perfect Dark Zero. Overall, it wasn't too bad and I showed that I could be relied on, so they re-hired me the year after.
Again, another Rare title. This time: Viva Pinata. Oh...good Lord. I did not like my Lead and recall getting into an altercation with a co-worker, because I went to take a shit and he thought that I took a break instead. I'm not sure why he thought it was his responsibility to know where I was through-out the day.
Towards the end of the project we were sitting around a lot and waiting for the Dev team to get their shit together. During this time, an opportunity presented itself in the form of Gears of War, which was also being worked on in our building. It was almost finished and a lot of people were playing it, but my Lead decided to fuck us over and not allow us an opportunity to play the game. I hated working on Viva Pinata, but I guess I did well, so they hired me again the next year.
This time I was placed at Bungie and was told I would be working on Halo 3. The game was great. The environment was...okay. But I struggled to overcome this depressed feeling that only comes with working in the "trenches." My co-workers got on my nerves on a daily basis and my fiance and I ended our relationship during this time.
I finally had enough and quit before the project ended. I have been blacklisted ever since then.
Tell us your stories of the Trenches.

but I would not say I am in the industry
we also talk about other random shit and clown upon each other
I almost got fired while I was working on Perfect Dark Zero, because I posted some negativity regarding the game on the independent developers forum. I was brought in and told that I was very fortunate, because I hadn't actually mentioned what game I was working on and, technically, hadn't really said anything bad about PDZ.
But they were watching me, oh yes, they were always watching...
I also interned for a start-up game company as an artist/ad designer but they had no focus or direction and went belly-up without producing anything.
That's all my experience with "the industry"
