Game 1

Welcome to the maze.

Get your counter-spell orders in ASAP after drawing cards.

TURNS HAVE STARTED. You will have 24 hours from the last turn posting to get your turn PM'd to me.

READ. THE. RULES.

And the FAQ.

Some changes to the above to make it playable over a forum
Counter-Spells - Because no one wants to have to wait for everyone to say whether or not they will counter any given spell by another player, all players will instead queue up their counter/reaction spells with conditions. For example, if I had a Full Shield (Counter any spell targeting me) in my hand I could queue it up by saying "Cast only if someone targets me with an attack that does damage" or "Cast if someone targets me with any spell" or "Cast if someone targets me with [specific spell]". These conditions can be as specific, multi-tiered, and creative as you want them to be. These should be PM'd to me once you get your starting hand/draw new cards and can be changed whenever and as often as you like. If you don't set anything up for your counter-spells, they just simply won't get played when its not your turn.

Turns - Turns will also be PM'd to me. You will have 24 hours after the previous player turn is posted for you to PM me your turn (this may change based on various factors or majority player demand). Your PM will contain the exact movement and timing of all the castings of your spells. Because there are counter-spells, however, if something gets countered in the middle of your turn, then it gets countered and your turn will continue on. In order to account for this, you can put conditionals in your turn order. For example, "Move down, Cast Lightning Bolt targeting Red Wizard. If lightning bolt is countered, then transform into Gnome and move Up, Up. If lightning bolt is not countered, then cast Fire Wall on right side of A-4 and move Up, Up." These can be as complicated or as simple as you want/need them to be.

Communication - All communication should be done in this thread. No PMs. Absolutely no sharing direct information about your cards.

READ. THE. RULES.
If you need clarification on any rules or cards, send me a PM.

Ready. And, may I add, there's nothing personal in the horrific assault which I'm about to launch. We're wizards. We're at war. It's all part of the game.

I will graciously accept any and all surrenders at this time.

Should there be portals on the board someplace? If so, where would they connect?

  • ObiFettObiFett Use the Force As You WishRegistered User regular
In a four player game there are no portals. The board just wraps around.

    So C0 goes to C9, H0 goes to H9, A2 goes to J2, and A7 goes to J7.

Portals exist if there is no clear wraparound, check out a 3-player game (Game 3, 4, or 5) to see an example.

  • DarianDarian Yellow Wizard The PitRegistered User regular
Page five of the rules looks like it shows a portal from A2 to J7 and from A7 to J2, giving quick access to the opposite corner. Or am I misunderstanding the setup?

    Oh crap.

That's completely right. Each color needs to be adjacent to each other color's tile.

Updating that now. Thank you for catching that Darian!

The four wizards quickly got over their teleportation sickness and gathered their bearings. The maze remained deathly quiet as they all waited anxiously for any sound or magical energy that would give them an indication of what the maze held for them.

Sick of waiting, Darian decided to act.

Darian wizard decides that any action is better than no action. Darian heads West and immediately sees a red treasure. Thinking quickly, Darian creates a wall on the other side to prevent other wizards from taking it. As Darian turns the corner and sees too many hallways to cover, he fires off a Booby Trap spell in all directions. While every wizard knows that its only possible to maintain one actual trap, three decoys should be enough to deter any invaders into his zone.

    actual orders:
    Move to C1,
Create Wall in between E2 and D2 if I have LOS that far; between D1 and D2 if I don't
    Move to B1, C2
    Play Booby Trap at A2, C0, C1, C4.
    Draw 2 cards

Goodomens decides to move away from the sound and out of the really long hallway in front of him that ends in an ominous yellow door. He casts Mad Dash on himself to double his speed and sprints North and through his door. And there was a treasure. Time to play some defense, Goodomens thought, and he used the last of his Mad Dash spell to sprint past his treasure and throw a Rose Bush up behind him. At least this hallway will smell nice.

    actual orders:
Cast Mad Dash (double movement, so now 6 movement points).
Move up, up, right, down, right, down, ending at H9.
    Cast Rosebush at G9.

It might help to put at least part of the updates in the color for the player.

That would help us keep track of the action.

  • ObiFettObiFett Use the Force As You WishRegistered User regular
What would you recommend? I think that coloring the entire paragraph would be a little much, but would coloring just the words Red/Blue/Green/Yellow be enough?

This is my first time running a forum game, so any help or constructive criticism is great.

I was thinking just the first sentence/phrase of each one; that way you don't have to try to catch every time you say each name.

edit: Might also be worth either using @moleface to announce the next player or putting their name in the color for the upcoming turn.

I like that suggestion, put the name back in but color it. I am making some changes across all the threads right now to make it easier to read and better if someone comes back through afterwards and wants to follow what happened (prompted by some awesome suggestions from Darian). Should be done pretty soon, then i will get to work on the submitted turns.

The sound of a door being slammed open and shut gave Darian the perfect target for Thought Steal. He penetrates the entity's mind. After poking around for a bit, Darian learns that the entity calls itself moleface and is an enemy wizard. Darian takes no time in ripping out two powerful spell-thoughts from his prey's mind, erasing all memory of them on his way out. Fearful of any retaliation, Darian puts some distance between him and his newfound enemy and heads through a nearby portal. He boosts to get an even safer distance and ... happens upon a blue treasure. "Should I make two enemies this quickly?", he thinks to himself. "Yup, fortune favors the bold," Darian reminds himself as he picks up the blue treasure.

    actual orders:
Start by using Though Steal as my attack on Yellow.
Discard Negate Neutral to make room to steal [REDACTED]
    Discard Add for +3 movement
    Move through the portal at A2 to J7, J6, J5, I5, I6.

GoodOmens is feeling powerful now that no one is around and decides to head through the portal... directly into a trap. He reacts too slowly and the trap begins to pierce his flesh. However, as GoodOmens winces in preparation for the pain, the trap continues through his leg like a ghost and disappears. "Whew, a fake." He continues foward and picks up the Red Treasure.

    actual orders:
Discard Energy (4) for Speed Boost (7 movement points total now).
Move Down, Left, Left, Down (through the portal, praying that's a fake trap), Down, Right. End in B3.
    Pick up Red Treasure.

artadius heads through the portal to get some revenge and end up face to face with Werewolf moleface . artadius dodges the first swipe and jumps back a couple feet. He begins charging his hands with electricity and the light stuns the Werewolf moleface long enough to get off the next part of the attack. artadius lets the lightning bolt loose flying directly toward the werewolf. Much to his surprise Werewolf moleface deflects the attack directly into the wall behind the itself. And much Werewolf moleface's surprise the lightning bolt ricochets off the wall behind it and directly into the back of its skull. artadius takes the opportunity to do some more damage and destroys the weakened wall sending even more shrapnel into the werewolf. Finally artadius turns himself into a Gnome hoping to make himself small enough to avoid the werewolf's future attacks.

Werewolf moleface runs through the portal away from the mean lightning wizard in an attempt to get rid of the periodic post-lightning shocks coursing through his body. Werewolf moleface turns the first corner he sees and, voila, there was a green treasure. He picks it up.

    actual orders:
    Move: to I1,
    pick up green chest
    Discard: Nothing
    Draw: 2 cards

Darian makes it back to his initial starting point and drops the blue treasure

A booming voice echoes throughout the maze, "RED has secured BLUE'S treasure. RED has gained one VICTORY POINT!"

Startled by the voice, Darian loses concentration on his wall spell and it dissipates in front of him. He walks over to see if anyone is one the other side.

    actual orders:
    Move: C2,
    drop blue treasure at home,
    C1, D1
Allow my wall to dissipate from D1/D2

GoodOmens heard the voice and feels an increased sense of urgency...

GoodOmens uses the sense of urgency he's feeling and boosts. As he turns the corner, he see a long hallway. Thinking quickly he summons his hoverboard and Rides the Wind down the long hallway conserving his energy. As GoodOmens reaches the end, he hops off his hoverboard and scoots around the corner to his home glyph, dropping off the treasure and waits for the voice[/b]

Again, the booming voice echoes throughout the maze, this time with a different but familiar message "BLUE has secured RED'S treasure. BLUE has gained one VICTORY POINT!"

    actual orders:
Discard Stone Spikes for Speed Boost (now 5 movement)
    Move left.
    Cast Windrider.
Windrider | Neutral | Self | Instant | Move in a straight line (not diagonally) as far as you like, ignoring any objects (except walls, doors and stone blocks) while moving. You suffer the effects of any objects in the square where you end this move. Moving this way costs 0 movement points
Use Windrider to move up 4 spaces, through the portal and destroyed wall, to I7.
Move right, up left, to H7.
    Drop treasure.
Do a little dance, make a little love, get down tonight.

Gnome artadius's disappointment in the werewolf's disappearance causes him to lose a little control over the gnome transformation. He was hoping for a fun duel...
