After recently completing all the DLC for ME2, I don't entirely get the Arrival hate. Well, I guess I do, because compared to Overlord, Kasumi, and Shadow Broker (some of the best DLC I've ever played), it is pretty pale.

But Arrival really isn't that bad, and it's got some interesting gameplay challenges.

It's been awhile since I've played it, but I remember the ending being really weird. At the start, Hackett asks Shep to go rescue Kenson as a personal favor to him, because she's a friend of his. At the end, Hackett doesn't even really ask what happened to Kenson, tells Shepard she's going to be court-martialed for doing him a favor, and takes no personal responsibility for what happened.

Hackett's total lack of interest in Kenson's fate, given how he played up his personal connection to her at the start, was just strange. Shepard being court-martialed for what's supposedly an unofficial, super-secret mission on behalf of the commander of the 5th Fleet is also really weird. Hackett should have been willing to take the blame or at least cover it up, but even then, Shepard isn't actually an Alliance officer in ME2. The Alliance doesn't have the authority to court-martial her.

Apart from the end, though, it was good fun.

Shepard gave him a full report before he arrives. I'm sure he already knows anything important - it's just a matter of whether he specifically comments on it or not.

    Build/fit/decorate your own ship.
    Create your own crew.
Go on lighthearted, post-Reaper invasion missions.

I would love to see a Homeworld-style Mass Effect. Or Freespace-style. Something Star Control 2ish would be fun too. You know what, why not make a 4x? Or a courtroom game? Or...the universe is huge enough for basically any style game. Which is pretty rad.

The problem is you've got to think in-house. Mass Effect is an EA property so they're going to either have BioWare simply make another Mass Effect game with new characters, or leverage their stable of existing games as a reimagining.

On one hand I would have liked to see hacketts friendship with kenson elaborated on, but on the other hand: he told shephard to go rescue kenson and report what happened, but what actually happened was an entire batarian system exploded followed by a report of what happened. And seeing as the reaper thing is still up in the air for the council, even though he trusts shephard, hackett is sort of stuck in politics mode.

As has been remarked before however, shep should receive a medal anyway. Because they were batarian, you see.

The same Quarian was being treated by Tali later. Good enough for me.

There were a lot of Quarians who got their shit wrecked in that scene, including some in that building Tali is in who got a missile shot at them, as I recall. I am almost positive that there were ones in that scene who looked nigh-identical.

Having just replayed that portion yesterday - I'm pretty sure there is at least 1 Quarian body lying around after that fight. It's possible it's all in my head though...

The only thing I didn't like about Arrival was that it was a solo mission. The entire time playing it, I kept thinking "This would be so much more fun with Garris, Grunt, Tali, Legion, or really anyone backing me up."

I just thought Arrival was dragged out too long, just so they could have the hour count to charge $7.

If it had less pure combat portions and more dialogue trees to let you know how the indoctrinated thought of the Reapers or something it would've been way better.

Demo data-mining spoilers (no plot, just gear):
    FemShep ME3 armor sets.

Good to see more non-boobplates. Also, other people are terrible at designing FemSheps.

The thread has left me behind, so apologies if this has been posted.
I'm not sure how "boob plates" are a bad thing. So, okay, we're fine with Maleshep pec-plates but not Femshep boob-plates? I didn't know people still couldn't handle the notion that women and men have different bodies and that emphasizing that fact isn't a bad thing. I happen to think that offering the choice of playing a male or a female and then not bothering to differentiate between the two aesthetically would be a total failure on the part of the design team. Besides, femshep's figure is established. She's not some body-building, refrigerator lifting, she-hulk, nor is she some quasi-idyllic abomination (see Bayonetta). She's got some curves to her (those soccer thighs) so why not celebrate them? If I was femshep I'd buy all the boob armor. Pragmatism be damned.

And yes, other people are miserable at designing femsheps.

it's more that emphasizing shepard's tits is more sexualising, and emphasising shepard's pecs is empowering. if you wanted to make the shepards equal you could give male shepard a crotch bulge, as has been discussed. or give female shepard massive fucking biceps. or just give both shepards more gender neutral armour! you can still stick to the sleek latex 1980's future and be fairly gender-equal.

Warp is a big part of your stasis combo, especially if you don't have a designated dps teammate to fuck up your stasis victims. Throw is good for staggering guardians and atlases.

Warp's more important but you should have at least one level in throw.

Thanks. Also, do people put points in the stat buff talent? If so, how many?

I'd say the justicar one is more important than the health/melee buff one since it focuses more on your powers and cooldowns. If you ignore the health/melee stuff entirely then you can max everything else out.

Well, I figure you're never going to be as tough as some of the other classes are anyway and you might as well maximize what you're good for.

For every class, I just max out the powers, take the melee damage to level 3, and the damage/powers passives to level.... 5 I think?

You're going to be a glass cannon regardless...albeit not as much of one as the Drell Vanguard.

Seriously. Unless you are going to spend whole rounds performing exploratory throat surgery with a shotgun the health tree is avoidable.

Being a current Drell Vanguard, I know the feeling.

One last question: talents that increase biotic combo damage or ones that increase damage in general?

right, on some of the other classes where there's a more definite throwaway power you can toss some points into health. I know as human infiltrator I basically didn't use cryo or sticky grenades at all even when I put points into them.

Cyro blast seems like it would be useful for phantoms.

Cryo blast is pretty bad. It's only sort of useful, and then only against phantoms (again, only slightly) and for tech blasts against atlases.

That's part of the reason why Human engineers are way, way better than Quarian engineers; overload is amazing, cryo sucks, and drone and turret both have their pluses, but overall I'd say drone is a bit better.

True. Was mainly thinking from the perspective of a human infiltrator. Phantoms are hard to hit, infiltrators have no direct damage dealing powers, and -35% move speed and +25% damage seems a pretty handy perk for a power that can be fired while invisible.

I'd still say it's only marginally useful, mostly because you still have to take a while to actually fire it off, Phantoms still flip around like they're on speed, and they tend to be able to see through invisibility.

Yeah. I've found health, Shields aren't that important on the power classes. Better to just try to max out your damage/control skills as best as you can.

That being said I think I still put up to lvl 3 fitness onto my Asari simply because the 6th tree in her specialty class wasn't really needed since I didn't have a heavy pistol that dropped her cooldown rate that much and 10% weapon damage while nice wasn't really too big on the class since it had mediocre weapon DPS anyway.

  • DragkoniasDragkonias That Guy Who Does Stuff You Know, There. Registered User regular
    Meh. I wouldn't really bother.

I found Soldier to be pretty boring myself. But I think that's mainly attributed to us not really having any of the good weapons yet.
