Ok to be honest Geek, you should probably stick to the Westside. Westwood is pcool, as well as parts of Santa Monica. 3rd Street Promenade is nice. Venice beach is worth seeing as well.
Tacos Por Favor in Santa Monica kicks Tito's Tacos ass from here to Sunday. It's east side ghetto quality mexican food (meaning it tastes like it was made by somebody's Grandma who slaves in the kitchen for hours, and then sells the results for 1.25 a piece)

Don't be jealous yet, I gotta get it all figured out ASAP before ticket prices jump up way out of range and then I can't go.
Gotta figure out where I'm staying, haven't heard from anyone here yet. Got another friend who moved down there from WA a couple years ago, but haven't hear back from him yet either. I might be able to rent a car if I can find a good price.

What's a good meetup place for Saturday? So far we have @sarukun, @Nirya, @Lord Dave(and probably EP with him), @Houk, @spono, and @Tommy2Hands showing possible interest for hangouts. Gonna also say @I Win Swordfights because it looks like not San Diego now. If I missed anyone, let me know.
Whoops, just saw this thread. I won't be able to make the meetup if you guys are doing it on Saturday. I'm working on a movie and I've only got Sundays and Mondays off.
Yeah I won't be able to make it either, but if it helps, here's our list of things to do/places to eat in LA
The Griffin Observatory – 2800 East Observatory Road, Los Angeles, 90027
Made famous from Rebel Without a Cause. Totallllllllllllly worth your time. Take a walk around the park and whatnot one afternoon and check out the famous ledge from Rebel. Also go see space stuff.
The Getty Center – 1200 Getty Center Drive, Los Angeles, 90049
BITCHIN’ ART.
The Greystone Mansion – 905 Loma Vista Drive, Beverly Hills, 90210
The mansion itself is off-limits (though you can go through the formal gardens and the inner courtyard), but it’s surrounded by a huge and awesome public park. They also have special events (musical and theatrical performances) every now and then.
Museum of Jurassic Technology – 9341 Venice Blvd, Culver City, 90232
This place really defies explanation, you just have to see it for yourself. They’re open on Thursday from 2PM to 8PM, and Friday through Sunday from 12PM to 6PM.
Gallery 1988 – 17020 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles
One of the most popular art galleries in LA. Really cool shows though they tend to be influenced by pop culture a lot.
The Bradbury Building – 304 S Broadway, Los Angeles, 90013.
One of the most famous buildings in LA. Architecturally, it’s amazing. “He say you Blade Runner!”
Lucky Strike – 6801 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, 90028
Great bowling.
La Brea Tar Pits – 5801 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, 90036
Self-explanatory, has the largest and most diverse assemblage of extinct Ice Age plants and animals in the world.
Hiking to Hollywood sign or Runyon Canyon.
Self explanatory.
STUFF TO PUT IN YOUR MOUTH
Fred 62 – 1850 North Vermont Ave, Los Angeles, 90027
It’s the best late-night diner spot you’ll ever find. Really really good pancakes.
Bossa Nova – 685 North Roberston Blvd, Los Angeles, 90069 – 7181 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, 90046 – 10982 West Pico Blvd, 90064
It has four locations and serves REALLY good Brazilian food.
Pink’s Hot Dog Stand – 709 North La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, 90038
Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles – 1514 North Gower St, Los Angeles, 90028
They’re both classics but both are overrated and touristy.
La Cabana – 738 Rose Ave, Venice, 90291
Has the best late-night Mexican food, but you’ll never want to be in Venice late at night so disregard.
Swingers – 8020 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, 90048
Solid diner that has it’s own unique feel and style, but they can’t touch Fred 62 as far as food is concerned.
The Counter – 2901 Ocean Park Blvd, Santa Monica, 90405
Build your own gourmet burger. Over 312,000 combinations!
The Apple Pan – 10801 West Pico Blvd, Los Angeles, 90064
Father’s Office – 3229 Helms Avenue, Los Angeles, 90034
All good for burgers.
Breadbar – Century City Mall – 10250 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles
Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner
BREAKFAST
Square One – 4854 Fountain Ave, Los Angeles, 90029
I’m almost tempted to not list anywhere else for breakfast because this one is so essential. Without question the best breakfast I’ve ever had. It’s a small place so show up either really early or in the afternoon (we went at 8 AM on a Sunday last time and we were fine). It’s pretty upscale as far as the food is concerned, but not very pricey. And so fucking good.
After you’ve eaten at Square One ten times, some other breakfast spots that are good are:
The Pantry – 877 South Figueroa St, Los Angeles, 90017
Famous spot downtown. Has the best pancakes I’ve ever had. They give you lots of food so order light. Also it’s open 24 hours, so it’s late night grub too, not just breakfast.
Café Flore – 3206 West Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, 90026
Also famous spot. This is where “people in the know” will tell you to go. It lives up though as pretty damn good. Just not as good as Square One or The Pantry.
The Griddle – 7916 West Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, 90046
Greasy spoon joint that’ll make you throw up all day, but if the wait at Square One is four hours, and the wait at Café Flore is two hours, and you don’t want to drive downtown to The Pantry, The Griddle is a worthwhile experience.
The Nickel Diner – 524 South Main Street, Los Angeles, 90013
It’s Downtown and great too, but if you’re downtown and looking for breakfast, you should just go to The Pantry.
COFFEE
LA Mill – 1636 Silverlake Blvd, Los Angeles, 90026
Best coffee in the world. Literally. They won that award and deservedly so.
Intelligentsia – 3922 West Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, 90029
The other top-notch spot.
The Bourgeois Pig – 5931 Franklin Ave, Los Angeles, 90028
It’s the coolest because they have a treehouse forest in the back.
Yogurtland – 5541 Sunset Blvd, Hollywood, 90028
It’s amazing. So many (rotating) flavors and toppings.
SANDWICHES
Larchmont Village Wine & Cheese – 223 North Larchmont Blvd, Los Angeles, 90004
It’s the best. The line will be long, but it moves fast. Seating is limited so plan on getting it to go. Fancy fine sandwiches with fresh ingredients and soooooooooo good.
Langer’s Delicatessen– 704 South Alvarado Street, Los Angeles, 90057.
Canter’s Delicatessen and Restaurant – 419 North Fairfax Ave, Los Angeles, 90036
They’re both second, but not even really close to Larchmont.
Cole’s – 118 East 6th St, Los Angeles, 90014
Is also incredible and is where the French-dip originated. It lives up to the hype and has a really cool bar as well, but is downtown so unless you’re down there it might be tough. They have the best old-fashioned on the planet and the guy literally picks your ice cube from a block and soaks the cherry. It’s an art watching them make that cocktail.
Bay Cities Italian Deli – 1517 Lincoln Blvd, Santa Monica, 90401
Probably the second-best sandwich in LA.
Jersey Mike’s - 1020 Glendon Ave, Los Angeles, 90024
Good subs place.
BEST OF THE REST
Gyu-Kaku – 10925 West Pico Blvd, Los Angeles, 90064
Seared Japanese BBQ.
Sushi Roku – 8445 West 3rd St, Los Angeles, 90048
Expensive but really good.
Diddy Riese – 926 Broxton Ave, Westwood, 90024
So here’s the deal. You get to pick two kinds of fresh homemade cookies and then one of fresh homemade ice-cream and then they make you an ice-cream sandwich. Every time I go to LA the prices are higher than they were last time, but I’m pretty sure it’s still 1 for $1 and 3 for $2.25. SO SO SO GOOD. The line is always out the door and around the block but it moves super fast.
Rambutan Thai – 2835 West Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, 90026
Some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had.
Lemonade – 9001 Beverly Blvd, West Hollywood, 90048.
1661 Abbot Kinney, Venice, 90291
Really good spot for EVERYTHING. It’s part lemonade stand, part grade-school cafeteria. Also a good spot for people watching too.
Village Idiot – 7383 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, 90046.
Great dinner spot and drinks and everything on their menu is awesome. Like a super-awesome better version of Murray’s from Columbia.
Crumbs – 9465 South Santa Monica Blvd, Beverly Hills, 90210.
Really really awesome cupcake shop that also sells coffee, cookies, and other baked goods, but you go there for the cupcakes.
Sprinkles – 9635 South Santa Monica Blvd, Beverly Hills, 90210.
Moar cupcakes.
The Farm of Beverly Hills – 439 N Beverly Dr, Beverly Hills, 90210.
Nice all around restaurant for breakfast and lunch.
Geisha House – 6633 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, 90028
Chill sushi place that becomes a nightclub after 10pm.
The Stinking Rose – 55 North La Cienega Blvd, Beverly Hills, 90211.
Restaurant known for their cooking with garlic and garlic-themed rooms(?).
The Bazaar – 465 South La Cienega Blvd, Los Angeles, 90048.
“Most creative restaurant in LA right now.” Pricey, but they have nitrogen air bread!
Café Primo – 3255 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, 90010.
Coffee, fresh salads, paninis, pizzettas and gelato.
Yard House – 800 West Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles, 90015.
139 beers on tap. Most people come for happy hour and/or burgers. Happy hour = M-F 3-6pm, Late Night Sun-Wed 10-Close.
Bottega Louie – 700 South Grand Ave, Los Angeles, 90017.
Casual Italian food.
The Curious Palate – 12034 Venice Blvd, Los Angeles, 90066.
Gourmet deli of sorts. Known for great sandwiches and ice cream, and they change their menu monthly.
Amandine Patisserie & Café – 12225 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles. 90025.
Good brunch!
Royal T’s – 8910 Washington Blvd, Culver City, 90232.
Japanese/California Fusion Food + Art Gallery
KARAOKE
Dimples – 3413 West Olive Ave, Burbank, 91505.
Mr. Belding hangs out there. They telecast your performance on the web plus it’s a total 80s dive. Love that place.
Smog Cutter – 864 North Virgil Ave, Los Angeles, 90029.
Close close close second though. Better crowd, especially young people and more fun atmosphere (Everyone gets drunk and parties). Less classic than dimples though, which feels like there are a lot of American Idol rejects crooning away their misery (in a good way).

Whoops, forgot to include All About the Bread under the sandwich portion. That's pretty much our favorite sandwich place and it's in West Hollywood so it's fairly easy to get to.

I am in the LA area. I should also be available that weekend for hang-outs. But I'm about an hour and a half north of LAX, so it wouldn't be prudent to host ya, Geek.

it's a bit of a walk from downtown, but totally worth it

Got my flight booked. Yay for free!
I'll be getting into LAX at about 2:30pm on Friday. Was able to get a good deal on a rental car from Priceline. I've got another friend who moved down there from WA that I'll probably be staying with on Friday night. But he's down in Irvine, so if someone closer is able to host, that would be appreciated.

I had a pretty fantastic meatball sandwich at Eastside Market (1013 Alpine Street, Los Angeles 90012) this afternoon
it's a bit of a walk from downtown, but totally worth it
Pinks is so overrated.
Also there is a Swingers in Santa Monica and it is awesome.

This is silly, I'm driving down from the bay area to LA on March 4th
What time will you be in the bay area on the 3rd? Maybe some of us Bay Area forumers could meet up that night
Also to everyone in LA, I will be in LA from the 4th through the 16th, and I'll be free most weekday evenings after work.
Planning on going to Disneyland on the 10th if anybody wants to meet up
So yeah, I'd love a meetup then.
Gotta figure out where I'm staying, haven't heard from anyone here yet. Got another friend who moved down there from WA a couple years ago, but haven't hear back from him yet either. I might be able to rent a car if I can find a good price.
I can help with that
I'll pm you a discount code
Turns out you can't pm from mobile
I'll send it to you once I get to my laptop
Sweet, thanks.
Haven't seen heard from the other people @Bogey and @Tossrock listed, so I'm gonna tag the ones that still seem to be active in the forums to grab their attention. @beavotron @Belruel @QuestionMarkMan @DrIanMalcolm @Starfuck @the wook @futility @BusterK @Fiz @Bendery @JAEF @Nads

also We were studying there for a while. Moved to LA in 2010.

I do! I want to meet you!
We should do something the third/Friday!
I live like 5 minutes from The Apple Pan!
Then we can all meet up on Saturday somewhere. @Nirya @Karrde1842 @jackisreal @Tommy2Hands @Lord Dave and anyone else who will be available to hang out should PM me your phone numbers please.
Well let's get this organized
@Janson @moriveth @de?ad @Dubh @Qorzm
Um I'm missing a couple of people I think
Anyways Saturday the 3rd let's do something in the bay area, maybe SF? Although parking will be a pain but if we carpool it shouldn't be too bad
Pinks is so overrated.
Also there is a Swingers in Santa Monica and it is awesome.
Mori works the 3rd, although I'd happily catch a ride with you if you're willing.
I know we're able to go up on the Monday for dinner! Waiting for @neville to suggest where to eat.
Also, I agree with all of your points. Have you tried Hole in the Wall's burgers, on Sepulveda and Santa Monica?

And wait are we planning for the 3rd or 5th?
