I've been fighting exclusively high gold players (or regular gold when on a losing streak) so I think that means promotion pretty soon. I even played a plat random player last night. He got really mad at the baneling bust I did. Called me a "youtube hero"
Awesome! A good baneling bust is a thing of beauty.

I'd think the hellions are the good answer for poking in and harassing the Toss army if he's going pure zealot/Archon/Templar. They are fast enough they can snipe a few units and get out without getting killed, then get repaired up. They also tank better than marines, and can be used to dilute the Zealot ball in different directions and get the Lots to blow their charges before the engagement. Plus Archons aren't that great against them.

I taketh thee down a pegge thusly:

I am the second-highest-ranked silver player on the PA list at sc2ranks! Ha!

***Fellow silver players: you really need to ladder more, I'm not good enough to be ranked #2

I've been laddering a lot more lately, since I somehow completely destroyed my ladder fear issue...I'll catch you soon, oh yes, I'll catch you soon...muahahaha.

That was a pretty good four gate, I have to admit :) Meeks taught me how to be crisp on my Warp Gate/Gates finishing timing like that. (Hint, start your final three gates when Wrap Gate is ~33% complete).

    Yeah.

I think it used to be secret that BFH mix-ins were awesome against zealot-heavy late game play but I'm not whatsoever sure that's true since the BFH nerf. Zealots pretty strong, hellions kind of fragile.

A BFH has to hit 3 Zealots per shot to match the dps of 2 Marines. That's with even Mech attack upgrades to Bio upgrades though.

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe they're good for using their high burst damage to snipe away at the edge of a zealot ball that does not yet have enough support to engage the bio ball.

Quite likely not worth the trouble / not actually terribly good, though.
You can't really look at DPS when judging these things. Since they do so much burst damage the zealot armor has less of an effect and a lot of zealots die before getting to do anything, since the first shot is instant, and the hellions can easily kite zealots without drug related self-injury.

But, then zealots get charge. Then everything changes.

Yup. They also still count as tech structures, ie. unpowered core still lets you build stalkers.

Polt's drops are really doing a lot of damage this game. But I think Bling has this comfortably.

Unpowered buildings do not keep building, or researching, but they do still act as a tech structure. I've had a robo unpowered with an observer literally a second from popping...no obs.

yup. did you see the pic of building a DT Shrine on one of the pillars on Shattered? Yeh, you can drop a probe, start the warp in under the warp prism, and then build DTs.

I think Vari means as in, while a building is being warped in, if you take out the pylon / prism that's powering it, does the building itself keep building?

    I have the same curiosity.

Building as in, constructing. A building under construction will continue being warped in even if the pylon dies. It'll just be unpowered when it finishes.

yeah, because I am pretty sure it just happened

I know units within stop building but that it remains a tech structure

but if you can't start a building without a pylon why the hell can it continue to build without a pylon

Maybe the pylon power is just meant to be like your car's alternator to kick-start the process. Once it's underway it can power itself.

Assembly, because MLG needs to learn the lesson that 20 bucks is too much for a one weekend e-Sports PPV event. They aren't the UFC. Plus, unless something changed that I missed, it's the only one you can watch right now without giving MLG 20 bucks :P

MLG because they have a really sweet viewing setup and an amazing lineup. 20$ for a weekend completely packed with games is on the expensive side, but pay and tell them you will probably keep paying if they make it slightly lower next time.

And well, PPV is most likely the future of esports if we want it continue growing.

not paying mlg and saying you won't pay if they don't lower the price point probably sends a stronger message, butttttttttt i don't wanna get involved in this discussion because i'm not gonna pay because timezonessssssss no matter what the price is

ppv is probably the future of esports honestly, until/if it makes it onto tv in a biiiigggg way

    http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?topic_id=313616

a rundown of the fxo invitational by boss, to give you an idea of what 8-10k viewers through a long-running tournament and a biiigg amount of ads actually gives you in terms of revenue

8k invested to run it, 2.5k return

unless you get simply insane amounts of viewers, you can't try to be profitable or even stay afloat in esports with an ad revenue model, and the problem with the sponsorship model is that if the sponsors go away, you simply die

I agree that PPV is the future of eSports, but 20 bucks for one weekend of content is so far above the market standard. 20 bucks will get me a MONTH of GSL, all of Code S, Code A and any special tournies or qualifiers they have. It's even less if I pre-pay a year.

It's not the PPV that bothers me, it's that MLG has valued their content so highly against the rest of the market...when it's not that much better.

Apparently MLG already hit their target ticket sales a few days ago, so maybe it isn't too much? They were aiming at getting 10% of their viewerbase and the MLG guy on SotG said that they had already surpassed that figure.

That's not what he said. He said their current pre-orders had exceeded his projections, not that they'd met their 10% goal.

I will not be buying MLG, and encourage you all to not do so as well. I don't like the pay wall model at all and think it can only hurt eSports growth.

Oh, my bad then. Guess I misheard. I'll be interested to see how well they do at $20, but it sounds like regardless that they'll be lowering the cost for the next event. I don't mind the pay model personally, though this event isn't worth $20 for me.

Steam has proven this to be generally true. Halving the price usually gets you more than double the buyers, because people have price walls in their own head. A person might not touch a product or service at 40 bucks, but drop the price just 5 or 10 bucks, and that same person may gobble it up.
