Assembly, because MLG needs to learn the lesson that 20 bucks is too much for a one weekend e-Sports PPV event. They aren't the UFC. Plus, unless something changed that I missed, it's the only one you can watch right now without giving MLG 20 bucks :P
I guess I can rephrase my question.
What Starcraft related thing should I be watching right now that is free to view, and can I has link please?
Try teamliquid.net.
Look to the top right, click on Streams.
Done.
I generally click on anything with high viewer count and less than one HD / Destiny / Idra / etc..

Apparently MLG already hit their target ticket sales a few days ago, so maybe it isn't too much? They were aiming at getting 10% of their viewerbase and the MLG guy on SotG said that they had already surpassed that figure.
That's impressive on their part then. Good for them. The real question of course remains: Would they get more than double the # of people if it were $10?
Steam has proven this to be generally true. Halving the price usually gets you more than double the buyers, because people have price walls in their own head. A person might not touch a product or service at 40 bucks, but drop the price just 5 or 10 bucks, and that same person may gobble it up.
Part of this is the psychology of knowing that you are getting a discount. Maybe this is MLG's way of wanting the final price to be 5 or 10 bucks, but if they started it at 10 then the audience would have wanted something cheaper.

I wouldn't pay $1 for ufc and I'd probably have paid $30 for this mlg weekend
in a month I will pay $50 for three hours of wrestlemania

So you'll pay $50 bucks to see fake wrestling, but you won't pay 50 bucks to see real wrestling/fighting? I mean, it's your money and all...but 50 bucks for a glorified soap opera is a lot.

I don't like watching people hurt each other at all. there's a craft to wrestling a lot of people don't appreciate at all but I love.
so, yeah.
I'll also pay $20 to watch nerds push buttons for 12 hours while their space men shoot at each other

That's not what he said. He said their current pre-orders had exceeded his projections, not that they'd met their 10% goal.
I will not be buying MLG, and encourage you all to not do so as well. I don't like the pay wall model at all and think it can only hurt eSports growth.
You really need to read the breakdown FXOboss made of their invitational. Solid 10k viewers over an entire weekend, only made 2500$, with 8k invested. Free generally does not work without sponsors. (this means they lost 5500$ on an event with good viewership spread over a fairly long time including subscriptions and adds)
And hopefully MLG lowers it to 10$, 5$ for gold members in the future, that is reasonable and would probably sell more than twice as much. Not sure though, but for me this weekend is essenitally free timewise, while I can't actually watch the GSL live most of the time due to university. Thus, this is worth more to me, since I value seeing things live a whole lot.
I know I'm late and maybe it's already been mentioned, but Stephano got as good a draw as he could have. He's playing a protoss, ReaL, and then either elfi or BlinG, probably elfi since he has elite PvP.
Did I mention Stephano is on a 26 game (!) winning streak in competitive ZvPs?
Invictus on
Generalísimo de Fuerzas Armadas de la República Argentina
the pricepoint doesn't even really bother me, maybe because $20 = £12 and thus sounds a lot more reasonable, but a combination of timezones and already having stuff planned this weekend means i can't really justify it when the only night i could really stay up to watch would be today
if it was $10 i would probably just say fuck it and watch the shit out of it tonight, but as is, ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
edit: i may even just buy it for tonight cause why not
hrmmmmm

you do get vods
I know it's not the same but I want to mention it. vods should be pretty much instant.
anyone who elects to type "gunna" instead of "going to" clearly some sweaty workhog who is unwelcome to the ritzy HD streams at the gaudy price of 2 hours minimum wage
excuse me while I find my velvet pillow to sit on while I enjoy these games with some merlot

I think 3 gameplay channels and a 'central' channel which is the one that has tastosis on right now.
goal from this mlg weekend: learn to tvz. at least if I lose after learning some shit I'll know what I failed at. I think I play too in betweenie weenie right now and do things like threaten to attack and then pull back when I could actually win OR leave my base when all I need to do is turtle... need a more solid gameplan.
other goal: enjoy the game wooohoo. go marine king (where's mma wtf, he won an mlg last year)

The overview layout is awesome. Stream I watch at max resolution, others small at lowest for quick switches once the next round of games roll around. So slick and awesome .
arghhh all this layout stuff and cool overview stuff and the lineup and stuff makes it all seem worth it
curse my horrible memory
if there's anything that could make this worth it, they did it imo. looks beautiful, works really well (smooth, I have 5 streams running right now, one at 1080P, and they're all smooth)and goddamn that lineup
5$ or whatever that works out to with gold (6? 7?) is obviously too low
gad why is my generation so cheap I just spent 11$ at wendys and people are popping blood vessels on slighty more for 30 hours of matches
Did you really just compare spending $11 dollars for pre-made food, that could have actually cost you 3-5 dollars at a grocery store, and is a product you actually need to fucking live....to a $20 entertainment product, that there is no low cost direct alternative to, and is purely a discretionary buy?
Man, it really ruffles my feathers when people do the "Well I just spent $20 bucks on lunch, roflrofl, so $20 bucks isn't much"...because, ya know, spending money on food is just like spending money on internet streams.
Well, when you die of starvation because you wanted to spend money on the internet instead of a life sustaining commodity like food, don't cry about it.
liquid tyler is commentating on the mlg winter arena games, specifically huk vs minigun atm, on his stream if people are interested in that sort of thing

I was going to ask what the fuck you spend $11 dollars on at Wendy's...that's like 11 orders of chicken nuggets....but I thought it took away from my point.

yeah im watching the stream they have on majorleaguegaming.com is it just gunna be interviews or something or what
I honestly do not have an issue with it.
But compared to the alternatives (GSL, NASL) it is 20$ for one weekend, whereas you get a longer period of games for the same or less trough them.
i think the free stream is just like warmups, interviews and bracket stuff yeah
artosis and tasteless going all espn™
forgot to go to the bank today T.T
no mlg for me

e~ wait, now its a makeout room full of nerds on couches waiting for the lights to dim.
Sundance also talked about the PPV model on a fighting game show named Cross Counter. http://blip.tv/crosscounterlive/cross-counter-live-121-5960553 around 24 minutes in.
yessss tastosis has 3 tvz today and an idra game. easy choices.
Time to stalk HuK and MC.

Better comparison...and I don't spend $11 dollars on those either, because very few movies that come out are even kind of remotely worth that price.
