I was pretty surprised to see Nintendo charges sales tax on digital purchases.

They don't charge taxes for people living in Miami.

Pretty sure most retailers collect sales tax for the buyer's local area at this point.

VA here. Still not paying sales tax on PSN, eShop, etc.

I've been charged sales tax on every digital store I can think of for as long as they've been around.

You bet your ass Canada/Ontario gets its pound of flesh via sales tax on as many digital purchases as it can. Certainly on Nintendo games.

Finished Steamworld Dig today. About 8 hours in total. Game was solid throughout and didn't overstay it's welcome. Highly recommended 9 out of 10!

Edit: Adding it to the OP. Anything else come out lately I need to put in there?

Is there a way to buy things on the 3DS eShop as a gift? Like, purchase it as a download code or something?

Some stuff you can buy at Gamestop and get a redemption code, but not everything. We bought Pokemon Rumble U that way and I know for full retail games generally they have the option.

I was more thinking, like, Links Awakening. My kids are REALLY into Zelda right now, so it'd be nice around Christmas to buy them some codes for it so it could be a surprise, which is a little harder when I have to steal their DSes and buy it directly.

I can get an 8GB Kodak brand SD card for relatively cheap. They're good for a 3DS, right? What are the chances of them being fake?

No Houn, do it this way instead!

Steal their systems on Christmas Eve while they slumber, download the games from the eShop, leave the "present" on the main screen! Nintendo already wrapped it for you! :)

I think that sounds awesome actually. Steal them at midnight and buy the game, and don't unwrap it in the menu. Then giftwrap their own 3DSs and give them back to them as presents.

To make it more meaningful and cool, maybe buy them some other games on there too, so they open it up and see like 5 wrapped gifts on the home screen! There are a number of games they might like on there, suggested by this thread.

Bonus points if you charge them up beforehand and wrap them with the system open and the volume turned up so they can hear the home screen inside!

God I wish both eshops had gifting. My friends and I would randomly buy games for each other, sometimes as elaborate pranks, sometimes because the games were awesome. Nothing better than waking up some random day to see that blue light pulsing.

That may not be accurate. I think the site U got this from may have assumed 60 since the actual press release didn't list a price.

I gotta remember to pick up a points card on the way home so I can grab Toki Tori 2+ by the end of the night.

Actually looks like the sale ended this morning. I took "Through 9/19" to mean the end of the day.

Oh well, $9 more in my pocket. I guess I'll grab it on the next one.

Which version is better? I have a WiiU and a 3DS and have never played a Monster Hunter before. I wouldn't mind getting it for 3DS because I don't have anything for that yet, but I'm more interested in getting the best port.

    Wii U for sure.

While owning a Wii U means you could take the 3DS version online, it's a bit convoluted and was never really intended for online play. Playing on the Wii U is a smooth experience.

Also the graphics are just great and the frame rate is better.

Also the 3DS version kinda sorta requires the circle pad pro, if you want it to control well.

Actually the framerate is better on the 3DS version but that's the only thing. Everything else is much better on Wii U.

Huh, I didn't remember that. Oh well. Regardless, it's never unacceptable on Wii U, I think the minimum is still above 30.

Agreed. It makes very little difference between the versions, it's just that the 3DS version has places where it jumps up to 60. In my opinion, it makes it more annoying anyway because it makes you realise how awesome the game would be if it was all 60. It's awesome anyway but you know what I'm saying.

It reminds me of Goldeneye on N64, the boat level, where you can look out to sea. There's no geometry so it's rendering as fast as it can. We always used to imagine the whole game like that.

The WiiU versions killed my ability to enjoy the 3DS versions, unfortunately. It just feels like there's too much lag, or something. It's a pity, since I loved the 3DS ones prior to that.

Except for the part where the game crashes if you have wifi turned on. Not a deal-breaker or anything, but I wonder how that one slipped past them.
