The only thing I have learned about baseball from watching ESPN for years is that A-Rod, Fielder, and Pujols are not mere mortals, but gods

I'm probably gonna regret this, but I'm going with Jhonny Peralta.

    Take a drink.

Not your fault though. Sweeney fucking took him in the lottery or something.

  • SchideSchide Yeoh! Registered User regular
You might have regretted taking him in the 17th round. Sweeney took him in the 6th round.

I don't really know what to say about that.

A 30 year old shortstop who hits for power coming off his career best season going into an even more prolific offense

    Doesn't seem THAT bad.

Yes he might regress but you could do worse than a .750 OPS shortstop who will put 20+ over the wall

Ugh I was going off the spreadsheet and for some reason he is on there in the outfield instead of at SS like he is on yahoo.

    Back to the drawing board...

Looking at the spreadsheet, and seeing all the people who we picked before somebody finally took Jeter, is so hilarious

Its hilarious that a guy in the latter half of his 30s got picked this late? Interesting.

You say this like his stats have noticeably deteriorated.

He's still one of the best shortstops today, if not the best. He still gets a fairly good AVG and OBP. And as long as he stays healthy, he can only positively contribute to the Yankees.

I would like to see him somewhere other than NY before he retires though.

What? That was not what I was saying at all! Do you even know who you're talking to? Have I gone to opposite land?

I just misunderstood what you meant by funny. Or to put another way:

You really need to lay off of CC's weight.

Jeter's not bad yet, not really, but he's only been about an average player the last two years. fWARs in the 2s. There's a chance he can come close to his 2009 season again I suppose, but the likelihood of further decline is a lot more than coming close to 7 WAR again. Or even 5.

  • JasconiusJasconius sword criminal mad onlineRegistered User regular
raijins offline so I'll pick tomorrow

  • Goose!Goose! That's me, honey Show me the way home, honeyRegistered User regular
He's still a fine leadoff hitter and will likely leadoff until he retires, which might be at the end of this contract.

  • JasconiusJasconius sword criminal mad onlineRegistered User regular
or until he gets traded to the Orioles for cash compensation

    oh SNAP

  • Goose!Goose! That's me, honey Show me the way home, honeyRegistered User regular
Jasc, I know you're not used to this, but the Yankees are a team that actually KEEPS their star players, not lets them run off in free agency or trades them in their last year so they can get the most value out of them. Its difficult to understand for you, I'm sure. And it will sure be upsetting when Evan Longoria takes over 3B for A-Rod in a few years (when A-Rod goes to full time DH).
