Not to shatter anyone's hopes, but let's not forget that Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is a thing.

I quite liked Dark Alliance. It filled a niche gap nicely, although that gap is now better served by Marvel Ultimate Alliance and the Lego titles. But at the time there were very few titles in the action co-op niche; it basically was go back to Gauntlet Legends or play the same 6 levels of The Two Towers, over and over again.
What it was not was a good classic RPG, and that was how most people judged it once you put Baldur's Gate in front of it.
I too enjoyed Dark Alliance, it wasn't trying to be anything more than it was and did the job decently. It could've easily been called Forgotten Realms: Dark Alliance.
oh and sahuagin can suck it, be thankful I gave back that useless silver sword instead of slaughtering you with it
one time I agreed to work with the king, worked my way through the entire city killing every single one of the prince's followers, got down to the prince, agreed to work with him, went back to the king, killed him and all his dudes, went back to the prince, betrayed him, then dropped into the underdark with the entire sahuagin race dead
then I had the dragon disguise me, worked with the drow, cleared out all three beast hives, worked my way up to the climax of that quest, betrayed the high priestess for her daughter, betrayed the daughter for the demon, killed the demon, bust outside without a disguise and took on all comers until I had cleared out two cities in as many weeks
Yeah, Dark Alliance and it's sequel were two of my favorite games on the PS2 (I also liked the Champions of Norrath games which were pretty much clones set in the Everquest universe). I love action RPGs, especially co-op ones.
I don't mean to imply anything bad about Dark Alliance, I never played them and they have solid reviews. I'm only saying that making Baldur's Gate games that aren't anything like Baldur's Gate has precedent.

I had ridiculous amounts of fun with Dark Alliance. Going over to my mate's every night for a week to play the co-op campaign, Flashy the mage and Stumpy the dwarf, being the hugest university student cliches by staying up all night getting high and playing xbox. That was a fun game.
Having said that, if this turns out to be a 'proper' new BG-esque game I will puke with happiness because ohmygod Baldur's Gate is one of those defining games of my childhood, alongside Monkey Island and Frontier Elite.

wut??
BGII also had a map. I miss getting maps for games.
affix the cone of shame
I also remember having a lot of trouble getting BG2 to work correctly for a while at first.
My spiral bound manual is literally within arms reach.
I mean I know I'm crazy but..
I kinda miss having RPGs where I understood the underlying mechanics.
lunch dish actually.
Trent responded to that saying it wasn't them and he'd have put his logos all over a video that was theirs.
Oh, I own them all on GoG now. I just have no time. NO TIME.
For what it's worth, I've played Planescape: Torment. It's one of my absolute favourite games.
BG1 had a map. you actually had to use it to figure out where to go for quests
;_;
Suppose I could install it.
Anybody have any idea what mods/gewgaws I need to install to make it run on good computer?
They also have a guide for mods to make it higher res and stuff.
anything else?
Qwinn's Tweaks
WeiDU Fixpack
Unfinished Business
Ghostdog's UI
And I'm pretty sure I just lost the past 45 minutes of gameplay because it crashed after starting a cutscene.
Hm. This is going to be one of those 'save every five minutes' type games, isn't it.
Otherwise, it looks great (I installed it once but found it unplayable at it's default resolution) at 1680 x 1050 with the high res stuff.
I'm also really liking the writing/plot so far.
this is big
tentatively out of my gourd for whatever this is going to be

I mean everything in the comments and such is referring to the first game
