I don't think the manual was spiral bound. Maybe you're thinking of the NWN manual?

BGII also had a map. I miss getting maps for games.

I think I had the spiral bound manual too.

I also remember having a lot of trouble getting BG2 to work correctly for a while at first.

    I was gonna say.

My spiral bound manual is literally within arms reach.

I think the only one that wasn't spiral bound was BG1, but that might only been the version I had.

I kinda miss having RPGs where I understood the underlying mechanics.

This was posted in G&T, don't know if it's real or not but it sure doesn't say anything anyway so who cares?

Trent responded to that saying it wasn't them and he'd have put his logos all over a video that was theirs.

I'll always fondly remember Baldur's Gate as that game I bought a pirated copy of at age twelve, from a store that assured me it was perfectly legal.

Also, that game that I never played more than a couple hours of, a fact I've regretted ever since.

it's not too late to play now

Oh, I own them all on GoG now. I just have no time. NO TIME.

For what it's worth, I've played Planescape: Torment. It's one of my absolute favourite games.

They also mispelled Baldur's Gate in that video

BG1 had a map. you actually had to use it to figure out where to go for quests

I regret not completing all of the Baldur's Gate games. I think I'm going to have to track down I, II and whatever else you people recommend.

    For real.

Great news if they're coming to Steam, too.

Shit I didn't even make it thought Planescape and I feel bad because everybody says Planescape is so good.

    You are dead to me.

    ;_;

    Suppose I could install it.

Anybody have any idea what mods/gewgaws I need to install to make it run on good computer?

  • UrielUriel Registered User regular
The gog version runs right out of the download.

They also have a guide for mods to make it higher res and stuff.

  • AbracadanielAbracadaniel Registered User regular
Where's the guide? Is it in the downloads section of the game on gog's site or elsewhere?

  • AbracadanielAbracadaniel Registered User regular
Okay, found a widescreen mod and a high-res UI mod

    anything else?

  • ThetherooThetheroo Registered User regular
  • AbracadanielAbracadaniel Registered User regular
Maybe I'm dumb but none of the download links appear to be working from there

  • DrZiplockDrZiplock Registered User regular
Rolo posted a bunch a few pages back.

  • AbracadanielAbracadaniel Registered User regular
    Yeah, got'em installed for Planescape.

And I'm pretty sure I just lost the past 45 minutes of gameplay because it crashed after starting a cutscene.

Hm. This is going to be one of those 'save every five minutes' type games, isn't it.

Otherwise, it looks great (I installed it once but found it unplayable at it's default resolution) at 1680 x 1050 with the high res stuff.

I'm also really liking the writing/plot so far.

I quite liked Dark Alliance. It filled a niche gap nicely, although that gap is now better served by Marvel Ultimate Alliance and the Lego titles. But at the time there were very few titles in the action co-op niche; it basically was go back to Gauntlet Legends or play the same 6 levels of The Two Towers, over and over again.

What it was not was a good classic RPG, and that was how most people judged it once you put Baldur's Gate in front of it.

I too enjoyed Dark Alliance, it wasn't trying to be anything more than it was and did the job decently. It could've easily been called Forgotten Realms: Dark Alliance.

oh and sahuagin can suck it, be thankful I gave back that useless silver sword instead of slaughtering you with it

one time I agreed to work with the king, worked my way through the entire city killing every single one of the prince's followers, got down to the prince, agreed to work with him, went back to the king, killed him and all his dudes, went back to the prince, betrayed him, then dropped into the underdark with the entire sahuagin race dead

then I had the dragon disguise me, worked with the drow, cleared out all three beast hives, worked my way up to the climax of that quest, betrayed the high priestess for her daughter, betrayed the daughter for the demon, killed the demon, bust outside without a disguise and took on all comers until I had cleared out two cities in as many weeks

never could get at that fucking fish, though

Yeah, Dark Alliance and it's sequel were two of my favorite games on the PS2 (I also liked the Champions of Norrath games which were pretty much clones set in the Everquest universe). I love action RPGs, especially co-op ones.

I don't mean to imply anything bad about Dark Alliance, I never played them and they have solid reviews. I'm only saying that making Baldur's Gate games that aren't anything like Baldur's Gate has precedent.

I had ridiculous amounts of fun with Dark Alliance. Going over to my mate's every night for a week to play the co-op campaign, Flashy the mage and Stumpy the dwarf, being the hugest university student cliches by staying up all night getting high and playing xbox. That was a fun game.

Having said that, if this turns out to be a 'proper' new BG-esque game I will puke with happiness because ohmygod Baldur's Gate is one of those defining games of my childhood, alongside Monkey Island and Frontier Elite.
