Yeah if you can't manage at least one summon then...

i dunno, you must be having a tough time of it.

I guess using a summon didn't occur to me because I thought the trap would just reset after it crushed someone.

Tactic for dragons in the early game:

    1. Lay as many traps as possible around sleeping dragon. Rest and set more if necessary.
    2. Summon every creature you possibly can (use wands, too).
    3. Have your weaker party members retreat to the furthest corner of the room.
    4. Buff up your stronger party members in every way imaginable.
    5. Have buffed party member poke dragon. Run in direction of traps.
    6. Cross fingers and hope that you're lucky.

    Tactic for dragons early game:

    1. Abuse a wand of Cloudkill by spamming damaging AoEs from the very edge of the fog of war. The dragon won't move from its starting position.

yeah the Wand of Cloudkill thing is basically a free kill because it's bugged to ignore magic resistance (also useful for Golems). If you want to do it legit style, Wand of Lightning isn't bugged and does pretty fat damage to dragons because you actually cast like 6 bolts at once, each of which does a little bit (if it makes it through resistance). Gotta watch out for rebounds instagibbing your party members, though.

Pretty much every Dragon in the game gives you the opportunity to pre-buff.

Next time I play these, I am fucking modding out all the traps.

look at this scrub, doesn't even have the location of every single trap in the game memorized lmao

see, now that you mention it, there are actually quite a few traps I can remember the exact position of if I had to
    man, BG is awesome

    oh man, dragons
I'm just now remembering, wasn't there some bug with the shadow dragon where you could enfeeble it straight to death and never start combat?

also ranger cleric was just flat broken; buffs, healing, summons, damage, dual warhammers, heavy armor, what's not to love

I still never played the Icewind Dale games. Played a loved BG, BG 2, Planescape, and Arcanum.

God I loved Arcanum so so much. NWN too. I hope they make more NWN games soon

archers were fantastic, you take that back
I killed sarevok by having my main character run in circles while he got shot to death by my squad of 4 archer teammates...
I honestly don't know how it got to be me, minsc and 4 archers, but it worked
sooo much money spent on arrows of piercing

those trousers were annoying to get and game breaking, but damn funny

Icewing Dale was great. It was more of a hack and slash than BG1/2, but had some decent roleplaying moments. You rolled up a custom party of 6 at the beginning and blasted through dungeons.

    how to kill dragons:

cast breach a bunch, especially on the shadow dragon
cast haste and hit it with your weapons
if you bunch up you will get wing buffet, and if no one is in range they will breathe on you

this should work until about draconis. I don't really remember how I killed improved abagazil(two dragon fight with pets) but that one was a doozy

the best way to kill dragons early game is feeblemind, which you can cast on them as many times as you want without them going hostile

once it goes through the resistance and they fail the save they will never go hostile or take any other action

    traps is easier, though

my favorite use of traps was when my solo thief/mage used them to kill all the cowled wizard parties at the very start of the game, think I got almost a whole level out of it
