Order's been shipped. Now I shall sit here consumed with lust until the courier arrives. Guess I won't be finishing up that final run of ME2 in time...ah well, I'd finished the game with that imported character before anyway. I was mostly just doing it to get a feel for the game again.
My general strategy of "walking into a fucking store on release day" has yet to steer me wrong. I recommend it!
anyway impressions from the first 3-4 hours of this:
1) rolling away from cover when I want to 'stick' to it is getting really fucking annoying (although I assume I'll get used to it and I recall having similar issues with mounting when I started ME2.)
2) The mantis sucks, when do I get my widow back?
3) Vega is written much better than advertised. Also I still want anybody who refers to him as "james" to do so in a british accent
4) My shepard mostly survived the import process, but femshep's mouth is animating strangely again and the game has a weird tendency to make her look crosseyed.
5) spoiler I guess but not really story-revealing?
it feels they've removed a lot of the agency from the player; in ME2 it really felt like you shaped the way conversations went; in this game it feels more like I'm along for the ride, with some control over tone. It's not bad and I guess I still have only really played the intro segment, but it's different.
6) I liked how they used the turian councilor
it was fun to see him be at least a little bit not-an-asshole, and also to get to tell him off.
I totally had the asari councilor pegged for the reasonable one, but I guess not.
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet

AdeptShep is best Shep by far... about as far as you can throw someone actually!
So we get stiff once in a while. So we have a little fun. What’s wrong with that? This is a free country, isn’t it? I can take my panda any place I want to. And if I wanna buy it a drink, that’s my business.
I'm gonna go ahead and agree with you. I played for 4 hours straight and it was midnight before I realized I had yet to eat dinner and I needed to get to bed.
Someone here said they beat this in 25 hours, all sidequests included? That seems insane to me. I'm 3 hours in and I feel like the game hasn't even started yet. Only just began my my first mission that required me to fly somewhere on the galaxy map.
Also can someone tell me in a spoiler how soon I get Garrus and Miranda?
Nothing here is really a spoiler, feel free to read if you don't mind some VERY EARLY scenes or general comments.
RE: Councilor names:
Udina names at least the Assari and the Turian if you talk to him again.
Also, the import process not only brought my Femshep ok, but actually fixed a few things and made her prettier.
RE: Streamlined experience.
Finally, yeah, they took out a lot of time padding fluff, like finding stupid useless things on the Citadel, like scanning those things-critters-robots in ME1. I like it. I don't wanna feel nervous and anxious about searching every single nook in every single non mission area, because that's actually something that takes me out of the immersion, on top of being stressful. In missions, fine, I'll be a scavenger. In the citadel? Ridiculous. Also, they took some useless bits like, when you get to the Normandy again after leaving the citadel the first time, and they tell you Hackett wants to talk to you, they just cut to the conversation, instead of making you walk there for no reason.
The conversations ARE less interactive, though, I have to agree.
Apparently pre-ordering a game from Amazon with super saver shipping a year in advance does not mean it ships on release day with slow/cheapest shipping, rather it means it ships several days after release. Yes, it has yet to ship. I posted this on the Amazon facebook page, I wonder how many minutes it lasts before they delete it. XD
edit: wow, not even a minute
Super Saver Shipping means last in line, after everyone else has shipped. You get what you pay for. Shouldn't get cheap when it comes to time-sensitive stuff.
No, it doesn't. It just takes longer to ship because it moves slower, that's why it's free. There is no first in-first out in Amazon; it's practically random.

Along the lines of the stream lining talk above-
its really nice that they do not tell you exactly where to go with a big on screen marker (not during a mission I mean off mission). I am cross checking my journal waaaaaaaay more in this one than 2.

Not being able to holster my weapon between battles in combat areas is SO FUCKING ANNOYING
You had a much wider field of view in the original two games when your weapon was holstered, and the camera also turned less responsively, which meant that your view didn't shake around like a crazy person when you are looking around for where to go.
Its more significant an issue than I expected it to be.

Yeah, you didn't go to the 10 items or less line. You went to the one with thousands of people in front of you. That's the whole reason it's "Super Saver"

Holy fucking shit. Bioware wasn't kidding when they said you'd have to make some tough choices. It was all fun and games when it was batarians vs volus. Not so fun and games for the shit I just did. Fucking war, man. Sigh.
As I said, there are times when Renegade seems much more pragmatic. Oh well. SUFFER NOT THE BATARIAN TO LIVE!
Posted this on SE++ as well, but crossposting for posterity.
So, a small question that I'm hoping someone further than me can answer. Spoilers if you're less than five or six hours into the game.
Mainly wondering when Ashley is going to be a potential squad member again. She's out of bed at the hospital and back in her crazy blue outfit, and all her bruises have healed and she's accepted the Spectre offer. Just got my Tuchanka quests from the Primarch and Wrex; haven't done very many sidequests yet (just little planet scanning for relic ones)
REGARDING ENDING SPOILERS FOR THOSE THAT HAVE COMPLETED IT:
ok so i'm trying to wrap my head around the possible endings:
1. kill reapers and all their tech, effectively blasting everyone back into the stoneage. shep dies.
2. hybridisation: everyone becomes half robot, half organic. shep dies.
3. control the reapers! well what it says on the tin. shep dies.
what are the other 3 and where the heck are the epilogues?

SPOILERS SPOILERS
There aren't any other endings. No epilogues. If you have some arbitrary amount of Readiness and choose the Destroy ending, you get a five-second long cutscene of Shepard lying in some rubble, breathing in once. That's it.
This is why people were upset about the endings. BSN has been going crazy over the last week or so.

Well I'm not too pleased with this at all. After all that build up I would have expected more in regards to who made the reapers, why can't the catalyst not be a bitch, why didn't we see harbinger anywhere, etc. It just all seems so obnoxiously hamfisted. Unless, ofc, there's a super secret ending in there somewhere if you do everything perfectly.

I don't even need a gun. The synergy between the Charge and Barrier explosion is absurd. It's like I'm an invincible explosive pinball bouncing around the battlefield. I giggle with joy during every fight. I'm even playing on hardcore which, as other have said, feels perfect.

With regards to that (possible ending spoilers):
Nah, there's no super secret ending. Like I said, the BSN has been going crazy. Crazier than usual, anyway. Every scrap of hope for secret endings has been picked over. The files have been mined for any hint of them, developers have been contacted...there was even a rumour going around at one point that the bloody paddlefish were tied to a NG+ ending. All comes to nothing. Watching them froth has been entertaining, to say the least-until now it's been confined to the spoiler discussion groups, but I doubt that's going to last much longer.

About what, 5 hours into the game, but it's what I wanted so far, although I'm playing on insanity just because I can't go back down, which proves to be problematic in some areas but no big deal.
The only thing I have to gripe about is that the climb up mechanic (forward and double tap A) doesn't register unless you have the camera right behind you, which can be hard in some of the firefights with different terrain heights and certain enemies, and that sometimes it feels like the ammo clips just disappear or fade out too quickly when I really need that ammo.
Are all the initial sidequests (Mars - post-Palaven) on disc 2? I ask because I'm in a wheelchair, and can't actually reach my XBox, so I'm wondering how many times I'll need to bug someone else to swap discs.
Also, multiplayer is still fun. I'm leveling up my human soldier - Patten - and Concussive Shot + grenade = fun. I hardly need to use Adrenaline Rush, at least on Bronze levels.

Infiltrator with Cryo ammo. Love. Headshots don't even leave a body (using the N7 Valiant mk3 at the moment, saving up for the Widow).
Also, when I met
Kasumi
on the citadel and did her side mission...
I almost broke out the onions. Maybe because it was late at night, but she damned near fooled me. DAMN YOU BIOWARE. DON'T SCARE ME LIKE THAT.
Meanwhile, I wanted to tell her "Don't worry, you don't have to fight, Kasumi. Just come on the ship, serve drinks, and follow me around while cloaked and talk to me. That's all I ask."

Oh wow, unlocked Quarian Infiltrator on my starter pack. It's just unfair. Cloak/shotgun ruins everybody's day, and on Bronze and Silver I have an army of Geth doing my bidding.
