    Sweet! !signup

I'd like the Hydran Progress, the Mechanema (using gray because what do you use for white on a white background?), or the Orion (I guess the text is already black if you're not using Ye Olde Style :P). Terran would be ok too.

Edit: Put in actual race names and stuff.

Also any player aids would probably useful. I have to leave shortly, but I'll look stuff up on BGG when I get the chance.

Can I play as the Mechanema please? I've been working on strats with them for my past few games.

Just to specify, everyone is free to be Terran if they like, since each color has a Terran and alien faction associated to it.

So blue and white are called so far.

Also! I found a very nice player aid in 2 parts. It was on boardgame geek as a PDF, but I turned it to images so you won't have to deal with trying to decipher the captcha.

Are you thinking of doing anything about plasma missiles? Personally I think they're fine but new players tend to have trouble dealing with them.

I'm not sure, to be honest. Mcblah, have you played it before? We can all decide if we want to run any houserules before we start, I figure.

They kicked the shit out of me in my only play, but experienced players say they're beatable, so dunno. I think I'd like to have played more than once before I can give input on houserules.

!signup so hard. First time player, I think I should probably go Terran.

Terran is fine for me, first time player as well. I've heard it advised using all Terran when playing with newcomers, so they don't have trouble figuring out how to counter weird alien strategies while figuring out their own. Is that a concern here?

Looking forward to this either way.

Have been excited waiting to get a copy of this game, was debating just watching this one but as long as theres a few other first timers I'll Signup as well. Terran is fine with me

    Nice turnout.

I'll allow aliens. It may be one more thing for newcomers to pick up on, but I think it'll turn out ok. That said, if everyone agrees to play Terran instead, that's fine with me.

Otherwise, we still have room for one more spot, if anyone's interested. Blue (Hydran Progress) and White (Mechanema) aliens are being played, but the rest of the alien races are still open. I'll distribute the rest of the colors to the Terran players once we're set.

The Descendants are fairly newbie-friendly, I find. Not having to deal with ancients in your first game helps.

Don't let newbies play as the Eridani, for the love of god.

I was actually just thinking about what X11 web colors would be good to use under both the default new-forum scheme and the Stylish old-forum schemes, and came up with the following list of 15. Some are more readable than others on each of the schemes, but overall, they might make for a good rule of thumb?

    red
    brown
    chocolate
    darkorange
    goldenrod
    olive
    limegreen
    forestgreen
    darkcyan
    darkturquoise
    dodgerblue
    mediumorchid
    deeppink
    crimson
    gray

I'll leave recruitment for a 6th person open until tomorrow before I set the game up.

This looks like something I would enjoy. Signup for Terran, to keep things simple.

  • IcerimpIcerimp Registered User regular
Well, cool. That was easy. I'll get the post up once I get home from work.

Well, sounds like I finished reading the rulebook just in time. Wasn't as bad as I was expecting, sounds like a promising game. How long does it actually tend to take in person?

  • IcerimpIcerimp Registered User regular
It thought it said somewhere 30 minutes per player, so 3 hours for 6? I haven't played before, but Tayrun can probably give a much more accurate estimate.

  • TayrunTayrun Registered User regular
I think that's probably an underestimate for most groups.

With veteran players who don't suffer from AP and plan their turns before they're up (grumblegrumblemydamngroupgrumble) 30 minutes per player would be about right.

First time I played was a six player match, all newbies. Took about five and a half hours. Followed by a 1v1 that lasted three hours.

Well, I was planning on running a game of this after my Twilight Imperium game closed, but I guess I got distracted by organizing and running Phalla that I didn't have enough time to put all the stuff together. Good to see that someone else is taking up the reins on this one.

Might have hit a size limit on my first post there. I can't quite fit everyone's board, unfortunately. I'll start another post and we can play off that.

Edit: No, it was just a darn typo. Oh well. New thread is here.

That's unfortunate, I had heard the big upside of this game over Twilight Imperium was that it didn't take six hours, but more like two. Well I can always lie to my group till they try it and like it...

It'll definitely be faster than TI.

If you can get your group to plan their moves ahead of time, and get them to realise that this isn't PR or Agricola - whatever you choose to do will be good, so you can't really make a bad move - then it'll clip along nicely.

I'd view 30min/player as the rate at which a veteran group who don't let themselves get AP would play.

If you know of such a group, tell me and I'll move to wherever they are.
