In the wake of Hullis's terrible news concerning his father, I will bring up something far less terrible but still not very good.

The scrabbling of metallic legs against stone can be heard within the tunnels, the acoustics strange and distorted. As the group searches for the proper way to go, one of them decides to satisfy boredom the best way possible: by poking something unknown with a stick.

Lilac’s spear taps against the glowing blue veins that can be seen through the walls and ceilings, as if they were see-through.

It was over ten feet tall, bristling with thick wires and panels, all focused around a sphere made of coarse-looking black metal. The otherwise quiet church was filled with quiet humming, the sound slowly growing louder with each passing second.

”Is this the legacy you want to leave behind?” The question was asked from the shadows near the entrance, a woman in a black suit so stereotypical that she might as well have been wearing a nametag that said “Hello, I work for some form of government and/or secret organization.” It didn’t help that she was wearing sunglasses inside, either.

The artificial lights cast harsh shadows across the grim-faced Jeremiah Rainer. In his day he had been the most prolific and daring human on the planet, digging up countless ancient relics and inadvertently stopping several plots that would have destroyed the world. He was a legend, the kind of person whose life you could write sagas about.

That was a long time ago, however, now his hair thinning and body bent over an elaborately-carved wooden cane. Surrounded by an abundance of electronics, cameras and recording devices, he had turned the pulpit into the perfect place to make broadcasts from.

Under other circumstances, she would have loved to share stories with this man. The sort of Truth gained from his wellspring of experience would have been quite filling. A shame it wasn’t the time or place for such things. The “guard” she had faced outside was proof enough of that.

Her question went unanswered as Jeremiah cleared his throat. “One of the Academy’s Hellhounds, Alethe the Blue,” he muttered. “The number of Aces that could have found me in time was very, very small. Out of them, you were considered the second most likely.”

There were several dozen feet between them, but his voice carried to her ears just fine. “If you’re referring to the bean-counter from the CSR, he’s about four hours behind me,” she said. “When we met at your estate, there was a bit of a disagreement over jurisdiction.”

    His thinning eyebrows rose questioningly.

    She didn’t elaborate.

“And what about Damascus?” he asked.

The name meant nothing to her, but she knew who he was referring to. “The golem you left outside, I presume,” she said. “He’s currently somewhere in the planet’s lower atmosphere. If you’re going to inscribe gravity-influencing magic into its body, work harder at your tamper-proofing.”

A quiet sigh left his lips and he held up something black and metallic clenched in a hand. “A detonator on a Dead man’s Switch,” he said. “It’s wired directly to my vital signs, so if they change beyond a certain limit the device activates. That will also be the result if you try interfering with the detonator's signal directly.”

Her calm expression didn’t change as she walked down the aisle towards him. While the purpose of the device was an unknown factor, treating it like a bomb wasn’t a bad direction to start from. Unfortunately, she could tell he wasn’t lying about the detonation process, and that invalidated any prevention measures she had on hand.

Psychological combat would be meaningless, as well. The moment his name had come up she had done her research, and already knew about his past enmities. Nothing she could say would change the fact that this was clearly meant to be his “big sacrifice,” which made dealing with him the same as with any other fanatic. As long as she was considered an extension of an Organization, talking him down was futile.

This wasn’t the worst predicament she’d ever been in, but it was close.

As the scene fades from the minds of the group, Ridden and otherwise, the still air starts humming. The vein that Lilac’s spear touched glows brighter, heading down a particular tunnel and out of sight.

Come, Others. Come face the Swarm.

As good of an invitation as any, no?

Darsa looks at the glowing vein, then Lilac, then the others. Did they see the vision? Perhaps. It was too crisp to be the product of one of his standard ayahuasca-stained trances, which means it probably wasn't from the usual proprietors. Other questions: was it of the past or future? Does it really matter? Is there any way to distinguish the two?

He has no answers, and follows the glowing vein in an attempt to find some.

He's sleeping now, seems like it was a minor stroke since he had more movement on his right side than 8 hours ago

But still, he had a near stroke a few months ago and we know he's had two silent ones

    just a little edgy today

If there's something I hate more than getting spoiled

It's when someone talks around.a spoiler so much that you manage to figure out what it is

  • WeedLordVegetaWeedLordVegeta Registered User regular
I'm okay with being spoiled, and checked out the ending in advance

but that was of my own will, not cause some kid with a stupid kai leng avatar was like "OH MAN YOU'RE GONNA LIKE/HATE IT SOOOO MUCH"

  • AntimatterAntimatter Devo Was Right Gates of SteelRegistered User regular
i hadn't actually heard about this Kai Leng fuck until ME3 came out
decided to do some research on him
HOLY FUCK WHAT AN AWFUL CHARACTER

wouldn't recommend checking out his ME Wiki page at this point, considering it does show what he does in ME3
but i intentionally spoiled myself for pretty much every major plot thing because my Shepard is a god that does not fail to do what she wants to do

    Yeah

The thing is, all of the dilemmas in that game/universe are extremely ambiguous. There's no perfect answer to them. That's what makes them dilemmas. So when people act like there is exactlu one right answer to every problem and anyone who disagrees is stupid/evil it gets annoying.

it'll be pretty hairy for awhile

I think emotions are running high enough where's there's going to be serious contention over the choices in the game

god knows I'll try to state my opinions as opinions, or through the mindset of my Shepard

but I know damn well it wont always come off that way

    That's fair enough.

Fuck it, I'm probably going to use this save I downloaded and play through ME1+2 after I'm done.

Christian frowns even harder as her brilliant attack is unfairly blocked for the second time. Perhaps it is time for...a secondary backup plan.

I can just leave the singleplayer alone until I'm done with ME1+2 but I can still play multi.

    ---Earth Orbit---

Buko's orb lights up the observation deck, revealing the 300-some monks in various states of disarray. Many are still prone, though Corra and Kanno seem to have kept their balance (or just got back up too quickly for anyone to notice). [70/50] Vek did, indeed, bite his tongue. He can taste a bit of blood trickling into his mouth.

"The bridge is on the same floor as us," Corra answers Yan. "Out the door, take a left and straight on 'til you reach the end. I'll stay with--"

"No, Grand Master, the other Masters and I will stay with the students," Kanno interrupts. "You go to the bridge with them. They'll probably need you up there more than the rest of us."

Corra nods. "Good point." She turns to you. "So, you ready to--"

"Hatshepsut, be advised," the voice from the Orion once again shouts over the intercom. "The enemy ship is...boarding you, I believe." He sounds uncertain. "I've never seen ships like this in my life. They seem to be reshaping themselves constantly, and the one you collided with is forming a tunnel that attaches to what's left of your top deck."

He's not about to be slowed down. Not by the likes of him.

Intent: Use Velocivoodoo to cancel out the deceleration effects of the shields to follow through with the punch I tried last action. Spending 4 on it.

Drawing forth energy and effort, M copies Vorin's telekinesis, and generates a psychic barrier between thon's armor and the hard light shields. M attempts to move, triply protected this way.
