Which is remarkable odd since he got kicked off Superman and was reportedly black balled at DC. He even said so in an interview. Fans loathed the guy so much it's hard to believe he would ever get a chance again.
Yeah I know I know, I know that other person is working on several DC titles but pretty sure Austen is actually more purely reviled and disliked.
It seems almost astounding he got a chance to write such big titles like X-Men and Superman only to fall so hard at both.

He got blackballed by the previous regime at DC. With Harras being the new EIC, that no longer is the case.

Between this and Before Watchmen, Paul Levitz is probably fuming in the wings.
Like he kept the company from moving forward in some ways, but like he also held off tons and tons of shit that would have been disastrous or in poor taste. And now without him, all that stuff is happening, and the company still isn't really moving forward at all in a good way.

Paul Levitz's wikipedia page is interesting.
TECHNIQUES AND MATERIALS:
Levitz is a Mac computer user.
really goddamn odd considering none of those are bottom sellers
hell Aquaman was in the Top 10 a month ago.
Also, Justice League was pretty great this month. Johns is definitely having a lot more fun now that he is in the present day and Steve Trevor is the best "new" character of the New 52. Shazam also moved the story ahead, I love Freddy a bunch and the new origin for Sivana is clever.

cause none of those are anywhere near the bottom of the sales list, especially Aquaman
I thought both JL Dark and Swamp Thing were pretty low on the sales list. I also recently saw that Demon Knights is depressingly low down on the list as well as Captain Atom and Resurrection Man. Not surprising, but I'm gonna be sad if all the third tier characters lose their titles.

Nope.
Swamp Thing sold 39k last month, JLD sold 31k.
30 other DC comics sell less than JLD.

Ok, go with me on this: all those subscriptions are being cancelled and moved to top 10 DC books like Batman, Dark Knight, and JL. What if those books are the ones DC is basing ad rates on, and this is a way to inflate the numbers to show to advertisers for higher ad rates?
I haven't had a subscription from a publisher in at least 15 years - but I can remember Marvel at least letting you choose what book you wanted your remaining issues to switch to when series got cancelled.

They auto pick it for you but you can call and change it to anything.
Went through a stretch awhile back that drove me nuts with them.
Can't remember exactly but it was something like, they no longer offered Daredevil so they gave me Hawkeye & Mockingbird for one month until they decided to drop that, then it was Punisher for one month until they decided to drop that, then it was Secret Warriors.....which lasted....you guessed it one month.
Finally called and said fuck it, just extend my Amazing Spider-Man and leave me alone.
I remember reading in a Cup of Joe interview a few years ago that in order to maintain Subscription rates from the Postal Service, you had to have around 18-24 issues roughly planned for the future.
I'm wondering if that has something to do with the cancellations, mixed with some eventy stuff or some planned writer change-ups after story arcs end (we know JLI is becoming something else, and I figure JL Dark is going to tie much closer to the overall DCU and the other JL books once Lemire takes over).
Bruce keeps that letter from his Flashpoint Dad in a trophy case.
A permanent reminder that his dad was gay for Barry Allen.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking that

I'm liking this new villain their building in JL. Good villains are seriously hard to come by (why I get pissed when they get popular and suddenly become heroes.) Also digging Steve Trevor's new prominence.
Shazam back up is surprisingly good, but I'm ready to see Billy finally say the magic word.
IGN and Comic Vine have both put up their initial impressions of Before Watchmen, and they are largely positive. If it was just IGN, I'd be pretty weary of that, but I usually agree with stuff I see on Comic Vine. I totally understand why most people are against this project, but if you can separate the comics from the outside issues, it looks like these are going to be great reads. There are some really amazing creative teams here, and it sounds like everyone involved really gets the source material. It's still an uncessary "event" but I'd rather see it done with some respect like this, if it has to happen at all.
I don't think I have done a subscription for a comic since I was 8? but then I remember the mail was really bad where I lived at the time
When it comes to Before Watchmen I am flipping a coin or reading a few pages of it before I buy it hopefully I am awake when I do
I have been reading I Vampire the one from the late 70's to early 80's and yes it does have a lot of the backstory of them but sadly it's rented formal wear and seducing everybody in sight with cheesy Euro-trash accents vampires sigh

I used to subscribe to All-Star Squadron back in the 80's and man, my comics were mangled by the time they came in the mail. they had a brown paper sleeve over them that was open at both ends and I used to get torn covers, but usually they were just folded in half, or bent in other ways. I still remember those times fondly though. Running to the mail every day to see if a new one had come.
I subscribed to Green Lantern from issue #66 (first team up between Kyle Rayner and Wally West) all the way until that volume ended when it was cancelled to let Rebirth happen

That was actually the last comic I subscribed too as well. I'd quit reading all DC comics for while and Kyle as Green Lantern lured me back in.
It's my firm belief that Kyle helped to bring new readers to DC comics and helped to keep Green Lantern relevant right up until the powers that be got a total hard on for the silver age and had to get all their "originals" back in the game giving Alex Ross a huger boner in the process.
It was pretty sad how Kyle's own series was made into an absolute train wreck thanks to Winnick getting on his soapbox and Ren Raab writing some of the absolute worse comics you ever read, didn't help he tried to write Kyle as Hal lite. Back to back those were jarring experiences for the readers.
i read comics from the grocery store spinner rack while my mom shopped and bought the occasional issue of superman. i subscribed blindly to green lantern (i'm guessing my grocery store didn't carry it) after seeing an advertisement for the Parallax View storyline (thinking Parallax's costume was cool). i've been an addict ever since.

Many apologies, he was to write Blackhawks.

what are you going to do to Swamp Thing, DC

I used to have a ton of Marvel scrips but they keep trimming the line. Now they offer (maybe) a third of what they used to just a few years ago.
With the advent of digital it's going to go the way of the dodo soon.
they both have Dark in the name
that means they're, like, the same book

"Ride or Die" confirmed Dominic Toretto, as they took off to find the Dragon Balls in hopes of reviving their friend Sonic
Actually got one issue two or three weeks before it was suppose to be sold.
It was the one where Clark's birth parents show up only to go boom when their ship got hit by lightning.

I can't say I really care about him much anymore, though.
Not being on Earth and making him a gritty veteran was not a good idea IMO.
It ships May 30th.
This is true.
They basically took him and remade him into something else so that Hal basically could fill the role Kyle had been providing.
Even if the two are completely different.
