Mine as well...finally. I've received at least 3 copies of the game so far through gifts and bonuses without having actually paid for any of them.

Aaaaaaaand that's all the codes. Thanks for the interest! Hope it plays well for you all.

Had a bash on the way home yesterday, quite fun. Thanks for the code. I'll drop a review on the App store.

Cool, I'm glad you're having fun with it. It makes all this frantic running around seem worthwhile. 8)

Also, congrats, Slash! I saw a post that Robert made, worrying that the future of Zeboyd is riding on this game, but I don't think you guys have too much to worry about. Plus, you already have my monies.

How are the controls for Chtulhu? I've heard some people say that the d-pad is pretty wonky.

The controls aren't perfect so they take a little getting used to.

Nice! Didn't know you had an iOS version too. I'm also curious about the controls.

It's a port of the console/pc version so the controls aren't necessarily as good as ground-up developed touch-based games, but they get the job done. You swipe up/down/left/right to navigate menus, and for walking around maps you place your thumb or finger on the screen and any direction you slide it is the direction the character starts moving. There's a few on-screen buttons for accept action, cancel action, bring up the Menu, and toggle Run / Walk.

Feedback suggests the iPad version is more comfy to play with the larger screen (for reading text) and the controls are easier to handle on the device. I played on the iPhone4 and think it's fine once you're used to it, although the gameplay and mechanics translated pretty much perfectly.

It's not an action game so precise timing and extreme movement precision aren't as crucial but we'll be looking at ways to improve as we go.

Soooo, Dead Trigger is out on iOS, aaaand, it's pretty smooth. It's been a good post E3, Asphalt 7 is very nicely done, that new Spider-man game is out, and Dead Trigger is a buck and it is "very" detailed, and "very" nice to play. Between that and the promise that Epic games is optimizing the Unreal Engine for mobile devices, it's a good time for people who play mobile games between loading screens on larger consoles. :P

Haven't played it myself, but I remember hearing it was a bit of a travesty. Into terri-bad territory, due to the crazy controls.

BANG! (the card game) is free right now:
    http://itunes.apple.com/app/bang!-the-official-video-game/id406634232?mt=8

Is there a huge deal of difference between Asphalt 7 and Asphalt 6: Adrenaline? I thought Asphalt 6 was pretty good already!

  • Options
    NamrokNamrok Registered User regular
Yeah, Megaman X requires super tight controls. I just don't see a straight port being even remotely playable. Hell, even the gamecube port was almost unplayable because it was extremely difficult to charge a shot, dash, jump, and fire all at the same time due to the different button layout. I actually had to form my hand into a misshapen claw to pull that off.

Well, Asphalt 7 is shinier than 6, the developers seemed to be going for a "Real Racing" sort of look, and they've gotten rid of the garage which is a shame.

Small warning on Asphalt 7, though.
Each time you complete one of the racing challenges or level up in Asphalt 7: Heat, the new iOS racing game prompts you with a “share your results” screen that ties into Facebook. Since it’s quite easy to earn experience points or clear challenge requirements, I often found myself tapping the “no thanks” button on the share screen three or four times after every race.

Asphalt forces you to click through this barrage of screens even if you’ve elected not to connect your social media accounts to it. It makes no pretense that the share button is there because it’s something players would actually want to do. It’s something Gameloft wants you to do, and it will punish you with pop-up windows to hammer down your resolve.

What Gameloft doesn’t seem to understand is that there isn’t a single person I know who would care about my performance in Asphalt 7. I can’t even fathom a scenario in which someone congratulated me on my totally rad race time in the second event of cup number six.

It’s become standard practice in games to plead with players to tweet about their progress, but most games at least have the decency of leaving players alone if they choose not to participate. Not Asphalt 7.

I've noticed that window, it pops up after a race is finished, my muscle memory avoids it.

Not sure how I feel about pinball arcade on the iPhone. Guessing it was designed with the iPad in mind. On the phone it's easy to lose track of the ball and tell what's going on sometimes. Also, I get occasional slow down, which is a no no in pinball, and it could be the mentioned slow down, but sometimes it seems unresponsive. As in I hit the flipper and there's a delay for it to actually whack at the ball. Also the physics sometimes seem wonky.

The free table is a lot of fun, and it looks good. If I had an iPad I'd consider buying some tables, but it just doesn't play nice on the phone IMO. But the free tables are nice.

I deleted Pocket Planes as soon as I purchased a plane (class 2) that could only land at a couple of my airports... The fact they don't auto filter the passenger / cargo list coupled with the impending task of selling / buying new airports made me nauseous.

Maybe I overreacted, but oh well.

Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land is free today. It's like Lovecraft Xcom? I don't know. I don't have an iOS device yet, I just buy shit when it's mega cheap or free for when I do get an iPhone (the new one this year).

I picked up Fantasy Defense a week or two ago when someone was talking about it in here, but I didn't end up playing it until last night. That game is really fun.

Though I'm stuck at the boss level at the end of the first 'theme', I've tried it a couple of times so far but I'm not sure when I should use what really, as far as either upgrading a unit or upgrading the unit's class to the next one and such. I don't really have a good strategy in general yet.

That's how it's supposed to work. It's part of the strategy.

Thing is, after you grow your airline a bit, you should never plan your routes around direct deliveries. What you should do is to have the Class 1 planes shuttle cargo and passengers to the closest class 2 and 3 airports, and then the Class 2 and 3 planes take all that to a very far Class 2 or 3 aiport. There, the smaller planes will distribute the stuff to close by class 1 airports.

For instance, I have small planes taking stuff from Ottawa, Thunder Bay, Montreal to Detroit and NY. Then the big planes take all that to Mexico City or Caracas or any other huge airport far away. Then other small planes distribute the cargo to Manaus, Iquitos and Monterrey and whatever.

That's why it won't block you from seeing or loading class 1 stuff onto big planes.

I found out about Plex today, and it is simply wonderful. It was incredibly easy to setup and configure (it configured itself, really), and it's the only personal streaming service I could find that allows for remote streaming and has server clients for Windows and Linux. There may be other cross platform options out there that are completely free, but I consider the small $5 fee for the iOS app a small price to pay for dead simple and quick setup and the convenience of not having to configure a bunch of platform specific setups across PC and mobile OS's.

Been playing Magic all evening and once I got used to some of the funkiness of how the game handles resolving actions (I really don't like the timer mechanic, but I'm adjusting) the game really started to click. Well, well worth the $10. This is easily the next best thing to playing the game in person. Interacting with the touchscreen is so much more rewarding than using a mouse or even a controller. M:TG fans ought to be quite pleased with this. If anyone wants to throw down in some multi, add me (Bullio Marf) to GC.

it's the second to next best thing to playing in person, mtgo is better, but that costs as much as paper magic. for $10 it's not a decent game though.

Yeah, a sealed preconstructed deck can cost $30 at retail. $10 is a steal

I've mostly finished Fantasy Defense, so I started on Elf Defense. A few levels in, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who liked Fantasy Defense. Similar mechanics, and I'm in love with the art style.

So, did anybody else grab Call of Cthulhu: Wasted Land while it was free? Big thanks to Medium Dave for the heads up btw.

Sure, it has its share of issues, but how can you go wrong with a turn based strategy Lovecraftian horror story that takes place during World War 1?

Playing this game just makes me even more excited for the upcoming Firaxis X-Com game.

I used to play The Realm online by Sierra. It was a great early MMO. Is there anything like that on the iPad? I don't really want a 3-D MMO. I want something that looks like a Sierra adventure game.

Just FYI, The Realm is still active. Some other company took it over, and last I checked, still operated it.

Some google-fu later I got this?

    Looks about right to me.

As far as the iPad goes I got nothing.

I just wanted to jump into all the love people are showing for fantasy-themed tower defense games and recommend that nobody install Defense Witches. It's got cute art but gets heavily reliant on in-app purchases, which a) can't be gotten through game play, as it eschews even the normal "give the player a trickle of currency while always giving them the option to pay real money to get it in bulk lots" model and b) are all expendable; you buy a thing to get you through one stage and then you buy it again on the next stage.

I will, however, give this Elf Defense thing a try :)

Is ME Infiltrator good? I'm sure it's probably worthwhile for a dollar, but just wondering if the quality matches up to Dead Space on the iPad.

Also, how is Tetris? That's also on sale, and I'm curious if it's good Tetris or bad Tetris.

I hit a brick wall in ME Infiltrator (you have to grind) and stopped playing. It's worth a buck, though.

I would not buy Tetris just because they deactivated the old version to replace it with this one, and you shouldn't support those practices. And I don't mean de-listed; I mean deactivated, even for people who already "owned" it.
