I haven't run into anything other than some decorations or unnecessary buildings that require crystals. I may have gotten crystals for completing quests, though I'm not sure. I've got over half the map claimed and haven't needed any crystals yet.
My life in Apps this week: Checking in on my Jurassic Park Builder (mixed in with a little time travel- which can mess up your e-mail checking something awful btw) and Pinball Arcade. I don't know if you all have played that one- but it's fantastic! I got to play on a vintage real pinball board this week, one that I own in the game, and I was really impressed with how spot-on the physics felt on the game cf. the actual pinball board.

I gave up on Jurassic Park Builder because half the time I couldn't log in and it would just sit at the title screen indefinitely.

Okay, that Pinball Arcade thing pisses me off.
You buy the game and then they make you buy the tables? Fuck you.
In other news, Puzzle Craft got an update with a 5000 gold 'apology' for the problems. Since I haven't had any thus far (Level 19), that's a pretty good deal.
You get the free table of the month with Pinball Arcade, I guess I just thought back to how many quarters I'd put in to a table decades ago, and saw it as a good deal. Probably not for everyone though!

I love Pinball, it's just, if there's an upfront cost, it's a piss off when you load it up and the first thing you see is another charge.

You spent $50 on puzzle craft? I have so many coins I don't know what to do with them
I'm guessing he didn't try to spend that much, but that's how much it charged him.
Exactly. Tried to buy the $5 pack, didn't work. Tried to buy the $1 instead and it also didn't work. Found about $50 in charges from iTunes a few days later.
if this is how you folks make art it's fucking depressing

Annnnnnd awesome. I updated Puzzlecraft and now my save is gone.
Also, now it crashes when I try to start a new game. Goodbye Puzzlecraft! It was fun while it lasted!

I found that it was a problem with having the app still open; if I force-killed it (double-tap home, then force it to close) and re-opened the app, it would log in perfectly fine.
Jurassic Park Builder makes me want another Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis or Jurassic Park III: Park Builder.

Well, the other problem I have with Jurassic Park Builder was the waiting. The Triceratops earns say 100g/5min. That means that if you leave it for 10min it will still only have 100g because that's the maximum it can have. It had the most painfully slow and agonizing start.
Also, I keep thinking of ways I would have done it different and when I spend more time thinking about how much better it could be than actually playing the game, probably should just leave it alone. :P
My main issue is a more general issue with the freemium model - as they've realized that most of the money comes from a very small percent of players, they've switched from 'let's try to get lots of people to drop down a buck or two every now and then' to 'let's fleece the idiots that will spend significant money in our game'.
Jurassic Park Builder is a perfect example... adding a T-Rex to your park costs $35. The cheapest dinosaur you can add is $8. Is more than 1% of the population really spending $35 to add a virtual dinosaur to their virtual park?
Some of the prices in the Simpsons game are equally insane... it's like they figured out that they can charge a few idiots 3x the cost of a normal game for a $2 game, so why not?

$35?
Okay, that definitely kills any interest I had in re-installing. That's ridiculous.

True enough....you know you don't have to let Apple manage your system's clock right? As far as the pay walls- yeah they are stupid, but you can get at least to level 22 without being unable to accomplish missions. You just don't get a T-Rex, or a few other dinosaurs. there are plenty of free dinosaurs to keep you busy. At the end of the day though- all it is is a decorating app with a fun minigame of "don't let them escape" every once in a while. Oh- but I made a huge maze my cars have to drive through as part of their route. It's funny to watch the cars in there.

My love of pinball has overcome my initial disgust at having to buy the boards in Pinball Arcade and I ended up picking up 3 of the boards.
The Magic one is amazing. That would have been awesome to play for real.

Theatre of Magic is an awesome table, One day I need to get myself to California Extreme and play these tables for real. But until then the versions in Pinball Arcade are really nice.

I have been unbelievably addicted to Medieval Madness for the last few days. The board is fantastic! I hope the Star Trek board works out.

Got back into Jetpack Joyride. The gadgets they threw in are super fun, and I just had to get enough coins to get the dog. Seeing him in his own little profit bird is the cutest thing. I can't seem to consistently break the 2000 mark, though. I did get super lucky and hit 3500 one game (fuck if I know how), but 2k is my average.

I find 2k is about where it starts getting too fast to react in time and becomes more luck-based. However, the high kicks can help a lot since it gives you enough height to get over any shock traps that touch the ground and does so quickly. My best is a little over 6k.
What's the forum's general opinion on that game, "10000000"? I hear it's supposed to be good but also a bit hectic and weird.
10mil is awesome, one of the best match 3 games I've ever played, it is hectic but in a good way. each game only lasts about 1-2min on average, and after it you get gold/exp/wood/stone you use to improve your skills so the next time it's a little easier until you beat the current skill level your on, and it gets a bit harder again. With the end goal being you play one run that hits 10 million points.
Yeah Tribez is fantastic. You can totally play the whole game without IAPs which is what I've done so far. Well, in the interest of full disclosure I DID buy some crystals to support the developer and I'll use the to buy some decorations when I finish this set of quests before the next update. They've been steadily adding new quests, islands, and achievements.
And if you like Jetpack Joyride, check out Zombie Tsunami, I'm totally hooked on that. Bet you can't beat my high score of 65 brains...

My best is in the 9k, but I can get 5-6k regularly. I usually do gem + coin magnet (kaching) and have a stockpile of 250k, with all unlockables, and a stockpile of items. JJ was my goto entertainment for a few weeks...

The original and best - Dungeon Raid
I want to know more PA people on Twitter.
Oh, and Puzzle Quest.
I was just there yesterday and saw that. Grabbed a stack of cards for the whole family. Great, great game.
It has been pulled because it wasn't supposed to be released yet. It looks like it should be pretty entertaining once all of the bugs are ironed out.
I want to give DoubleFine my monies.
