Cannot play DVDs on computer

Hey everyone, trying watch the Godfather 2 right now but my computer won't play any dvds. It's running windows xp, yes it has a dvd drive. When I try to open it with windows media, it says "Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. Open Display in Control Panel, and then lower your screen resolution and color quality settings. To view the DVD Troubleshooter, click More Information." Tried that, didn't work. Videolan also isn't working. These are normal dvds.
I thought maybe it had a problem with virtual drives that alcohol 120% made, but I disabled those and it's still not working. Anyone know how to fix this?
