From what I hear though, it probably won't be JP, which is who I really want to see, but I hope they take the opportunity to show that he's still alive (because that was such a blatant non-death he got) and that things turned out okay. The character at the very least deserves closure, and honestly, not being Azrael may be the best thing for him.
Also I want to voice my approval of the use of the 'original' (not counting his dad's costumes) outfit or a close variation. His silver "No Man's Land" outfit was kind of cool, but besides the Az-Bats suits all his gear has looked shit (and AzBats looked retarded when he got the old suit for no reason and the helmet was blue but the rest was in his own scheme)
It's odd, if you asked me if I liked Marvel or DC better, I would have a hard time answering, probably finally give different answers on different days, but I'm keeping way closer eye on Marvel at the moment and have been for a while. Maybe I just found it easier to stick with Civil War/ WWH and that and gave up on Countdown. I don't seem to permanently read any ongoings anymore, just dip in and out when I think there's a good story. I've probably missed a lot.
The series makes me wish Black Mask was still alive.
He was so fucking sick. A perfect Bat-family rogue.
I always feel sort of dirty saying that I like Black Mask since he's so maligned due to being the main villain of War Games. But he has some golden moments as far as I'm concerned. I always think of the scene where he's standing around with Deathstroke and discussing the gender of one of the Hyenas. That alone made me like Black Mask.
Even though War Games was a dismal failure, it was my first exposure to Black Mask (besides some stuff in the NML trades that confused me) and I thought he was great. Like when he found Steph had escaped, he picked up a pickaxe: "OnetwothereeseveneightnineTEN! Ready or not here I come!" Something like that.
And when he ruled Gotham and brought Mr Freeze on board, and he was getting his suit "upgraded" by one of Mask's techs. Black Mask and his second in command that sort of looked like an asian Steve Colbert are discussing misgivings about having him, as the tech accidentally disses Freeze's old suit and gets himself killed for it.
Mask: (after a pause) I like him! Get him another tech!

i think Mr. Freeze is due for a role as the main villain in a story
In June/July, DC are killing off Batman. Or rather, Bruce Wayne. Robin will inherit the Batman cowl. One of the Robins anyway. Tim Drake. Jason Todd. Or possibly Red Hood. Hey, maybe Jean-Paul Valley, it has been ten years since Azrael.
Either way, the book will relaunch with a nice shiny #1.
Yes, didn't Captain America miss a trick there? I'm sure Marvel will do the same come 2009.
And what of Batwoman? Well, I'm told the launch of the Rucka/Williams series has been pushed back yet again because of the movie, and fears of "unacceptable media coverage." I'm told four issues are fully completed.
Apparently it's okay for Batman to be dead, and a new character take his place when there's a movie out. But not for Batwoman to be a lesbian. At least wait till it's gone to DVD for that brunette bombshell.
Batman is one of the few superhero deaths left that matter. I don't think they should do it any time soon. We're coming off of Captain America and I don't want it to seem like a "me too!" move.
That's also right before Final Crisis. You would think that they'd save something like that for the event.

Calling bullshit.
"Robin will inherit the Batman cowl. One of the Robins anyway. Tim Drake. Jason Todd. Or possibly Red Hood"
Since they apparently don't know that Jason Todd and the Red Hood are the same. Plus Jason's becoming Red Robin anyway

It does have his yellow light or whatever.
I can't really see Morrison being party to killing off Batman, unless he rises from his grave spectacularly the very next issue.
Plus, ain't no one else but Bruce Wayne going to be doing any Batmaning in Final Crisis.

Sounds like it, especially since he thinks Batwoman is a brunette.
Are these the same people who rumored before Infinite Crisis that Batman would end up in Arkham and Dick would take over the mantle of Batman? We all know how factual that turned out to be.
All Star Batman...
What the hell is Frank Miller on?!! I mean the books are ridiculously late and they are awful! BUT for some reason I cant stop reading them. Is this some masterful ploy by Frank Miller? A story so horribly bad that its...good?
Anyway little plug, Norm Breyfogle, (and if your a Batman fan and don't know Norm Breyfogle SHAME ON YOU!!) is drawing the Danger's Dozen and having a blast. Some of if not his best work to date!

All Star Batman is just fucking ridiculous. If you take it seriously, it's completely shitty. It's the equivalent to a summer popcorn flick. It's just braindead fun.

I never understood the logic behind the "summer popcorn flick" designation. I mean, the viewer knows it's crap, but they enjoy it anyway because they expect it to be crap?

Less artistic merit, more "ooh, that guy exploded real good!".

It's really hard to describe. Kindof like trying to explain the appeal of "Snakes on a Plane" - there's a very thin line of "so bad it's good." Or not good, but at least enjoyable. I guess it's usually things that make fun of the genre, but do it so completely that they're right between actually being the genre and making fun of it. Shit like "Epic Movie" is just bad. Those movies don't inhabit the genre they're mocking. "Snakes on a Plane" and AS Batman & Robin do, so the satire is a bit more respectable.
This is all going on the assumption that ASB&R is actually satire, of course.

Exactly. The people complaining about the book are the ones that are holding it up to other Bat books like Year One and all the other classics.
It's just crazy stupid fun. A chance to see Batman 31 years or so before he becomes the "old tiger sensing his end", when he gets a chubby breaking the noses of perps who just stole bleach.

Oh God, the amount of foreshadowing in Robin today that someone significant to the Batfamily might die is... disconcerting.
See, I'd believe that "Batman is getting killed" rumor if it said "during Resurrection of Ra's" and not "In June/July", what with Tim saying, "Who protects the city when Batman's gone?"
But to put that now and then kill him in June/July doesn't make sense. It's not even foreshadowing, since they've been saying it since pre-KnightFall

Well Countdown ends the second week of May, so Batman could die during Final Crisis?
I mean, it does say "Heroes die. Legends live forever."

Unless they can pull a Brubaker, which I highly doubt they can.
But if they did I would actually drive a truck into DiDio's cornhole.
