Okay, so being the sort of whitey white boy that typically doesn't dance, I didn't attend such a thing at PAX East 2011. So what are the basic details of how this stuff plays out?

It's pretty impromptu. I'll tweet about it as PAX draws near and it will most likely be late Saturday night of PAX. I think last year we went about 2 hours long.
The background on this is that each PAX East, some of us have done just impromptu dancing, calling it "/dance". Last PAX East, we had quite the crowd, and it was entertaining for a lot of folk. This year, I still want it to be impromptu... This means, if you happen to be in the area when it's happening, then feel free to join in, but it's not an official thing. It's just something that happens. I show up and play music, and boom magic happens.

Definitely flash mob stylistic, but organized. I definitely have safety, security, and fun in mind as well. Last year, the dancing started in front of the PC room in one of the side hallways. Everyone was having a blast, and drew a crowd. MCCA even allowed us into a large area so that we didn't block the hallway. This is not intended to be disruptive, but instead just a couple hours of letting loose a bit and kicking up heels (not "kicking Heels" that would be mean) on a Saturday night.
Location TBD! Hard to remain impromptu if I'm telling everyone all the deets. Just know, if you hear music late Saturday night (and it's no where near the main theater), something might be afoot!
