god, young Bobby must be freaking out at the idea of what his older self is capable of
It gets back to the issue where Emma Frost first took over Bobby's body and made him turn into pure ice instead of just a guy with an ice coating; he'd never thought of it. That was the first "Bobby is Omega Level" issue, and since then one of the defining characteristics of Iceman (for like, every writer) is that he periodically thinks of these insanely cool implementations of his powers (e.g. teleporting through a body of water by entering it at one point and simply exiting at another) but then never, ever, ever follows through on the implications.
AoA brought us a Bobby that created basically a world full of ice giant avatars, but did our Bobby (when he found out) ever do a giant like this before now? I can't think of it. His water teleportation stunt means he should be able to travel the world, basically, at will, but he never does it. He should - a la Magneto - be able to 'possess' the water in an enemy. If he just froze the water in your blood in a controlled way, he could even do it without breaking any of your cells so he could avoid killing/maiming the other person. But he doesn't.
Young Bobby should see this and say "Why am I not in charge, again?"

It does fit Bobby's personality, though. He's not the type to powergame his abilities or even pre-plan fights. He's a go-with-flow type of guy.
I think Astonishing X-Men is going through a 'How powerful is Iceman' story right now. Something to do with the recent crossover with X-Treme X-Men and AoA.

ANXM
This was a great issue hands down
Scott: Gets out to really see the world atm rather then taking everything through the filters everyone provides and learns a bit about the current state of mutants. Gets to do some old fashioned hero work and feel good about it. Thanks to the ultimate wing man goes home with some new digits.
Bobby: Hah this issue was all Bobby stealing the show. Getting out the school because watching his older self kissing his teacher freaked him the fuck out (which come on that would get anybody). Goes into wing man mode out in the open and using scotts celeb status and a little quick freeze heroics also gets some digits (well he cant cause the pen dried out the instant it got near his hand but scott got both numbers)
Hank: you know what kudos to the big guy. Crush validated
Jean: I do love how her and rachel are doing the "nope not dealing with this right now." Seeing them pass each other and then hurry to not make eye contact was hilarious. otherwise complete bitch. Bitch to Logan (admittedly with old hanks prodding but she didnt need to do that to the bike), Bitch to Scott (see Hanks entry), Bitch to Hank (see the end of the book)

Don't be so oversensitive. I have five or six female friends plus my older sister who all call themselves bitch all the time. They take it as a mark of pride, not a word of demeaning.

not insulting women. not trying to demean women.
my language is focused upon a single character and is indicative of how I feel she has been portrayed in her last several appearances

Ah, the "I'm not a racist, I have a black friend" defense. It's unbeatable.

Cable and X-force
I don’t think anybody will be surprised to see Hope under the armor. However the fact that time is updating in real-time for her (future hope), has me wondering just what the implications will be for some of marvels most frequent time travelers. A lot of what’s going down in other books is directly related to the marvel U abuse of time travel so Cable's team acting directly to shape the future based off of knowledge delivered from said future...Ok time travel gives headaches
In short good issue but now I need to ask has Colossus healed from the phoenix corruption, have his powers stabilized, or has he relearned how to control his shift to his metal form.

ANXM
Almost forgot last few pages showed Dazzler spying on Scott and Bobby. Now the last issue of Uncanny showed that this may very well not be our favorite light wielding pop icon. If that is the case just what is Mystiques overriding goal here cause it seems the battle of the atom event is to take place soon and I cant see any grand plan as large as what she may be building surviving that kind of event.
It's a little dissappointing. Mystique is known to be a planner but aside from causing limited amounts of trouble she's not rellay pulling any major strings in her apperances. I really hope if that is her in ANXM then she has something big to drop on the xbooks
If it's not her then what is the state of shield that they would have Daz checking up on the originals. Maybe they think talking to young scott might give them clues to the older's whereabouts?

No, its the fact that the meaning of words change over time. The fact that you currently in a place where the word has a horrible meaning is really not my problem. In the area of the world I live, a bitch when used to reference a women is used to indicate a strong willed women who does not back down from her outspoken thoughts or beliefs regardless of what others think.

OK as the cause of this debate I move that we switch back to the topic of the thread and resume discussion of X-men and X-men related antics.
Just catching up on the last several months of WatXM, I've fallen behind.
Just wanted to say that arc with Dog in the Savage Land was super good, every character got some nice page time and development, and I was satisfied with it as a whole. Especially nice coming off of that mediocre Frankenstein arc, I was seriously considering dropping WatXM after that one.
I want to hate Dog based on his origin story alone. So far, I have yet to see any positives to his inclusion in the WatX book.
He's just a watered down/pitiable version of Sabertooth.
Given my prev track record, I'll probably end up living him

I really liked Uncanny #10. ANXM #15 seemed to be a cool down issue, and this was also the case outside of the last page. Eva got some nice screentime, Scott continues his diplomatic talks, pretty pretty art.

It strange to say but my favorite part of Uncanny is that Erik with his helmet off looks like an old man. It shows that passage of time is a factor in these characters lives. I am very intrested in Magento's flashback, was he thinking about the power he once carried or remembering his early encounters against the X-man he now supports.
so with Bendis hinting that X-23 is going to be joining one of his X-Men books I had the thought, how hilarious would it be if Young Scott got in a relationship with her
I'm really enjoying ANXM but I go back and forth between really liking and really hating young Jean and her penchant for constantly reading people's minds.
Also, is Uncanny really that good? I've hated pretty much everything about Scott's character for the last 3 years or so but I've been hearing good things and it's hard stay away...
Personal opinions, but Battle of the Atom is off to quite a start. Highly recommend getting ANXM as well because it seems pretty essential. Have a feeling that many of the tie-ins will be.
Also I'm loving the All-Newer X-Men team, and I wasn't expecting the ANXM reveal for one particular member....

They aren't Tie-ins. Battle of the Atom opens with BOTA #1, runs through all of the X-Men books for 6 weeks or so, and then ends with BOTA #2. Its like an Event Book from the old days where its self contained within its books rather than having 6+ issues AND side stories in its own books.
Also, both issues were awesome and I will be totally posting some of my favorite panels at some point tonight, either here or if there is a MOTW thread.
Yeah, I wasn't paying much attention to this event and how it was going to play out book-wise, mostly since I think i read every associated title anyway and would end up getting them regardless.
There was quite a lot of good moments packed into two issues so far!
Young Jean Grey is the Queen of overreacting and doing whatever stupid thing she wants. It's really getting stale how every other issue of ANXM revolves around Jean throwing a hissy fit or doing something just plain dumb.
So I need to get all those titles to have a complete story I'd assume, I don't read WatXM or regular XMen so I'd need to pick up those 4 issues or you think I'd be ok without em?
You are going to want to get every book on that list to get the full story. Battle of the Atom isn't like Infinity where there's a core miniseries and tie-ins. There aren't actually any tie-ins, it's just all one story across the four books involved.

Though I've said it before, I wish they'd just had her get cured and her powers back after the end of AvX.
I love you Bobby Drake.

On a side note, I think this thread needs a new title given that it's been almost a year since the event it's currently referencing has ended.
Unfortunately, I have no ideas for a new title.
