so I bought a new 2 TB seagate 7200 RPM drive, have it plugged in in addition to my current drive, and when I boot the computer I get a 'Reboot and Select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot drive and press a key' error
how do I get the second drive installed and working from here?
I'm barely hardware literate, so please be pretty basic in any instructions!
you probably have it set as the first boot device. just plug it in, and in disk management make sure it is set to a drive letter and formatted how you want it. If you are unable to use the drive entirely you may need to installed the updated IASTOR. But this is if 1: It is a seagate smart align drive, and 2: you have an intel processor
Oh! you're hardware illiterate lemme break this down (sorry).
What OS
What kind of Processor
From the BIOS screen make sure you have your main drive set as the primary boot. This varies from bios to bios so I'm unable to help you really get to where you need to go, but it's normally under "boot, boot devices, or boot options"
For Disk Managment, right click "My Computer" in windows XP or Computer in windows vista/7 and choose "Manage" You'll see it in the MMC console that opens up, it'll be on the left
The circled option is in windows 7, and says "assign drive letter" if it does not have one. It can't work without a volume or drive label as an active storage device.
