Long gone are the days when you'd assemble a group for Stratholme and all five people would be required to get on a flight path and spend the time to fly all the way from Ironforge to Light's Hope Chapel.
Once people build up enough of a gold nest egg to cover repairs, gems and enchants, they're gonna just chill in a major hub waiting for their queue to pop.
They'll pop out as often as they feel like to do the new dailies to get what they want, and then ignore them.
Summoning stones were outside in PvP areas. Two people go fly out to the instance, other three wait in the city. The first two arrive, go to the summoning stone, die, and those waiting in the city leave the party.
People mostly ignored the summoning stones until they reduced the number of people required. They were mostly great for doing old instances at a higher level if someone couldn't find the place.

and then I tried to log in tonight and servers apparently don't exist
it's possible I didn't read that e-mail very closely
