You turn your right lobe off, you turn your left lobe off...(sleep thread)

There is also an entire industry around sleep and sleep related accessories. Have you ever shopped for a bed and tried to compare prices, only to learn that the mattress industry obfuscates that ability? It is truly a racket. However, spending money on a nice mattress may be one of the best investments one can make in life. We sleep 1/3 of our life.
So, let's talk about sleep. What's your favorite way to sleep? How many hours do you sleep? What is your favorite bed type? Do you sleep lightly or like a log? And the grand question: Why do we need sleep at all?
Coincidentally, I think I get through my days unihemispherically sleeping.
At night, I try to become as unconscious as possible, for as long as possible.

I wake up at 7:15 am pretty much every day, regardless of alarm clock. On Saturdays, I just curse and snuggle up and go back to sleep. It's like a lifetime of conditioning.

I don't have much trouble falling asleep, unless I'm trying to force myself to after being awake for a short time. Really depends on how tired I am. But on average my day-to-day sleep routine is pretty consistent. And I'm not a light sleeper at all, I'm usually out like a light for the whole time.
I hate waking up for work/school.
edit: For the past 8 months I've been living in residence at my university, which involved going from a queen-sized bed at my parents' house to a twin(?) size here. It was a jarring adjustment at first but now I love it. Bumping back up to a queen when I move into my new apartment next month.

It takes me about 45 minutes to an hour to fall asleep, on average
on the one hand, it sucks a lot
on the other, I recently realized that spending that much extra time on introspection each day has probably had a profound effect on my personality and development
I sleep terribly, am constantly switching between states of rested and not, regularly get less than 6 hours of sleep a night, and can't wake up without an alarm.
I would leap at the chance to never sleep again ever.
I sleep anywhere from 3-10 hours a day, depending on whether I forget to check a clock and stay up too late playing games or something. I really should sleep more though.

I wonder if there's a correlation between difficulty falling asleep and introversion

I used to take stuffed animals and set them up as vigilant guards around my bed when I slept as a child. I am fairly sure they are the reason I am alive to this day.

To protect from nightmares or actual people/things? Because I did it to ward off nightmares. I also gave the stuffed animals the toy weapons and armor and such from my plastic toys if they'd fit them so they could better defend me.
I can fall asleep at the drop of a hat. I also have my internal alarm clock set so that I wake up around 6:30 am everyday, even weekends and it is the devil. Naps keep me going.

Nightmares. When I was growing up I didn't even have a regular mattress, so I slept on a small air mattress and would build a wall around me.

Shakespeare and Cervantes referred to sleep as death. When we close our eyes and turn off our brains, where do we go?
I sleep about 6.5 to 7 hours a night. If I can't get to sleep then I run through the 1986 Transformers Movie in my head (I have it memorized word for word when I watched it 3x a day as a kid) then I usually fall asleep.
If I have to wake up before 7:30am (which is every weekday) then I'm exhausted no matter how much sleep I get. Alternatively, I can goto bed at 5am and wake up at 8am and be refreshed.

I used to do this with Wayne's World when I couldn't sleep.
why doesn't mori just read in his own tiny bed to the right there?

My brain forgot how to sleep and it's fucked with my health for years. Sleep study after sleep study, meds, and surgery and at least now I'm almost getting kind of a normal night of sleep sometimes maybe.

so, shrug
I don't always get good-quality sleep, so I am always left wanting more. I have sleep apnea, which doesn't help matters, either!
Right now I sleep in two shifts, roughly 5 pm - 7 pm and 1.30 am - 6 am, to fit around Mori's schedule. It's not working too badly!

It is a blessing, and a curse.
except last weekend, when I had a recurring dream in which I desperately needed to catch a train, but I kept falling asleep
falling asleep in the dream made me wake up in life and vice versa
I was very tired the next morning
Trying to sleep when its all hot is just the worst for me.

can't sleep with clothes non.
I used to do this with Wayne's World when I couldn't sleep.
but only seem to fall asleep on my back,
but always seem to wake up on my right
guess I've got brain problems!
I don't believe in it
I just don't really have a better place to put it
Mori likes to sit on it and use the bed as a foot rest when he's reading!
