My aunt just retired, on the other side of the country, and now she wants to go wireless. Her laptop is new so it supports b, g, and n. She asked me for advice about getting a router. I mostly know about routers that are very configurable, but I want to get her one that is both secure out of the box, and easy to use. Any suggestions?

Since she is not on the same side of the country, unless she has a considerable amount of tech knowledge for her age she is probably better off getting a service to come out and set it up for her. Most cable/telecom companies offer installation and configuration as part of their setup services, with the added bonus of having troubleshooting included.
Question: Are you wanting to add wireless to a existing router that is not wireless? Because the router provided by the service provider may already have wireless. If that is the case have her read you the information on the router (SSID/Network Key), talk her through enabling the wireless, then plug in the SSID/Network key on the laptop and your done without buying anything.
teamviewer is free for personal use and will let you control her computer. So as long as she can physically hook it up, you can do all the security stuff pretty easily.

Should be able to download the user guide from your end and talk her through the setup on her end.
