The Shadowrun wikia is sorely lacking in information? Wha? I mean, you have to dig deeper than just the surface links, but there's a lot of shit on there. Check out the Timeline on that wiki for a good start.
The official site is at shadowrun4.com
In general, you aren't going to find explicit information about most of the settings, because of copyright issues. It is, after all, a pen and paper RPG. The big community for Shadowrun is at dumpshock.com.
For most of the 2050 information about the setting, you'll have to dig around in the Neo-Anarchist's Guide to North America and the Neo-Anarchist's Guide to Real Life, along with most of the 1st and early 2nd edition Shadowrun books. The best introduction, in my opinion, is the short story collection "Into the Shadows".
Dumpshock took their awesome wiki, merged it with another group's wiki, and created shadowrun.wikia.com tasty stuff in there, but you have to look around. Biggest part missing, to my mind, is a page for each major Shadowland contributor. Instead there's only a few who happened to be involved in something bigger or were someone very important (like "The Big D").
Also, if anyone's interested, EVERYONE involved in Shadowrun somehow is on Dumpshock talking to people openly. The guys making the browser MMO, there. The guys making the RPG, there. The guys doing Shadowrun Returns, they've been on some incarnation of Dumpshock since the game was still at FASA.

Yes, Dumpshock is awesome, but quite entrenched. Again, I stopped paying attention around the time of the Ancient History stuff. To each their own.

Most of these guys were covered in various Sourcebooks (at least, the ones that matter beyond the occasional quip). The most important one is probably Target: Matrix (The Smiling Bandit's profile, for example, is in this book), but there are a couple in Prime Runners. There's no way to focus on them with a full page of content without ripping off the books verbatim, and on the old dumpshock wiki, those kind of pages were usually reverted/deleted.
Project Update #9: The Music of the Night
Posted by Harebrained Schemes LLC
There are only 4 days left in our Shadowrun Returns Kickstarter! 4 days!!!
The outpouring of support for this project has been phenomenal and we deeply appreciate all of your comments, suggestions, stories and encouragement.
One of the recurring themes in the stories we hear is how the music of the Sega and SNES Shadowrun games stays with you after all this time. Whenever we read your comments and whenever the team talks about it, the conversation always comes back to, “Wouldn’t it be cool if we could get the guys who wrote the original music?”
So we did.
Today, we’re incredibly excited to announce that Marshall Parker, who wrote the music for the Super Nintendo game and Sam Powell, who wrote the music for the Sega Genesis game, have agreed to COLLABORATE on the music for Shadowrun Returns.
Not only are we excited to have these two talented people working on the project, (we still can’t believe we got them!) we’re impressed by the spirit of cooperation they both expressed. Marshall and Sam really understand what we’re trying to do here and it was a pleasure to hear how happy they would be to work together to bring you the Shadowrun music your generous support deserves.
Speaking of what your support deserves, let’s talk about Rewards!
Check out the tasty DocWagon card concept art we added today!
We're sweetening the deal for our $30 Reward Level backers! In addition to everything they already get, they’ll also get the IN-GAME DocWagon benefit too!
A Reminder: Every backer at the $50 level and above gets their own copy of the SOUNDTRACK!
Reading through the comments about the Backer T-shirts, we see lots of fans for all three designs, so we’ve decided NOT to survey backers about which shirt back you want most. INSTEAD, backers at the $60.00 level and above get to choose which shirt they want!
But what if you still can’t decide? What if you want ALL 3 SHIRTS???
Then our NEW $175 Reward Level is for you! At $175, you get all previous rewards (excluding the All-Digital Bundle) + all 3 Shadowrun Returns Backer T-Shirts.
Did we mention that there are only 4 days left?!
That’s 4 days for you to help the Cause by spreading the word. There are still Shadowrun fans out there who don’t know about our Kickstarter. There are still gamers out there who would LOVE Shadowrun if only they knew about it! There are still people out there that don’t know we changed our $7,500 Reward Level to include a game of tabletop Shadowrun in our studio with Jordan and Mike Mulvihill!!!
This is a call to action, Chummer. Spread the word. Every dollar YOU bring in goes into making a better, richer, and deeper Shadowrun experience.
Share the link to our Kickstarter page via Facebook, Google +, Twitter, secret courier. . . Pinterest, whatever.
Share the link to the Shadowrun Primer and bring new people into the fold.
Use the “Shadowrun Kickstarter Backer” images on your blog, use them as your Facebook cover image, and share them on the internets. (You can find more images here.)
Tweet and RT your love. Use #shadowrunreturns so everyone can participate.
Use peer pressure (for the right reasons this time) to get your friends involved.
What’s in it for you? You’ll make Shadowrun Return.
Go, go, go!
And thanks,
HBS

Hmmm...get paid on Thursday, figuring what I'm probably going to be spending on utilities + food, I think the $125 is doable.
If not, at least the $60, I wants me some soundtrack and t-shirt action.
No matter where you go...there you are. ~ Buckaroo Banzai
That music did not age well. I'll probably shut it off and play my own late 80s/early 90s industrial mix.
... you haven't even heard the new music yet!
Right. It's the same guys but it doesn't mean they're just adding their old music back into the game. Anyone could do that. Why would they need them?
Also, what? Music ages? I still think it sounds awesome.
I know that they're not going to just pop some old chiptunes into it. I'm curious to see what they're doing, but honestly, I'd prefer my own soundtrack. I have a plethora of appropriate stuff for it.
And yes, music can age and become dated very easily. I find most chiptune unlistenable and I grew up in the NES era. Had my first one in 1987 when I was 10.

Man, I grew up in the SNES era and still love chiptunes.
I pre-ordered some indie royale bundle because it came with Christmas chiptunes and I thought that was awesome.

My favorite part of that announcement was the shirt designs all being available. I don't have enough to get all three, and of course there are the size concerns, but I can get my favorite now.
I have this really cool chiptune from Future Crew of them doing a Shadowrun song. I have no clue where it came from; I've had it almost a decade now. I'm very much looking forward to the music guys from both games being involved.
Yeah... Getting the snes music guy is huge for me!
Loved those tunes so much... All he needs to do is snazz it up for the modern tech and I will be happy.
Apparently you aren't the only one: let's kick this to 2M.
(Please do not gift. My game bank is already full.)

Music's always been a big part of this game. Though I didn't realize how much until I purchased a copy of Shadowbeat and saw that there were rules for playing a rockstar and influencing the crowd as an alternate career path.

I am dying to see it hit 2M, but honestly at this rate I will be quite surprised... Which is a shame
My guess is 1.7m. There's always a slew of last minute backers. I think some of the bigwigs from other companies who donate like to hold off and let the "ordinary folk" get the limited prize packages that they want.
Off topic, but fuck that stage. I think that's the one where the wind changes, pushing you forward or backward based on a particular timing, and you had to time your jumps with the wind in certain sections.

Ahh, early 90s. Never change.
Yea rockers were mostly a part of SR1 and SR2, starting fading out in SR3 and in SR4, they aren't even considered really. I guess aside from rules, my biggest beef with SR4 is the transition to mirror shades style of a game. I mean yea, no realistic criminal enterprise is going to have a rock star who commits industrial espionage at night, but it's just dang cool.

Which is weird, considering Rob Boyle was a full-on punk rocker. I've never met anyone who actually walks around wearing a gas mask before him.

Pretty sure that's it, yeah, and fuck that stage up it's ass.
edit: but the music is hella awesome regardless

Ooh, that's a hell of a goal.
They just hit 1.5 mil...
Their next (and last) goal is 1.75mil. If we make it to that level... They are going to include Physical Adepts.
... Probably should've been part of the base spec sheet, but hey. It does kinda break the game.

That's pretty rad that I keep hearing here about how folks want adepts, and hey, look at that! Next goalpost is to include adepts. It's also still pretty encouraging that the devs are keeping these goals within reason; adding another class is pretty great, but without the issue of scope creep screwing things up since adding a new skillset is a lot easier than, say, adding a PvP element.
Physical adepts weren't always in Shadowrun though, were they? I'm thinking that's why they've held off on putting them in. Probably wanted to get all the "standard" classes in before adding something newer.

I wish there was something I wanted at the $250 or $500 level. I'd up my pledge from $125. I know that's not the point, but to spend that kinda money, I need some more incentive. A signed book and more t-shirts don't do it for me and I really don't see myself designing any adventures.

Phys Ads showed up in the 1st edition Grimoire, but they've been a "core" archetype in every iteration of the game since then.

Also, I really need to find a copy of Shadowrun for the SNES and play it before this comes out.

Psh, the best song from Ninja Gaiden II is clearly this (I love the one you posted too though):
no seriously, hire ''the advantage'' and have them do the old shadowrun music.

I meant your translation in general.
