There is a sense of progression with your perks, and you get cooler weapons as you go. but your old weapons aren't immediately pieces of trash because they do 20 damage instead of 80. You can start with guns doing 400ish damage, but higher level guns have more mod slots and higher level mods can increase the lethality and accuracy of weapons.

Its not really an mmo. I mean yeah its huge and lots of people, but its way more Third Person Shooter than mmo. You can go in and do quests and storylines with little time investment. You won't be worse off for not playing, its not like theres any real downside to taking it at your own pace.
Also levels have no meaning.... yeah you have perks that are better and maybe better gear- but you can run with 'high level 'folks no problem as its a shooter....
Ah; so is there a sense of progression in the game? If it's just your guns get shinier and bigger, but do the same stuff and the same damage, ah well for me.
Let me clarify there is progression- but its not like wow where 5 levels apart means you cant quest together. You will finds better stated items there is progression there. Also the highest level guns allow you to buy slots for mods... so you can really personalize than fancy orange titled gun to your tastes come highest level.
edit- and lots of flavor- The dps between a purple and an orange may not be massive but when you start getting orange guns its stats and the mods have synergy that you can really trick out your guns and perks to your flavor. What corrigan said tho'.

Thank you (and you, mojojoeo for the explanation. The biggest failing for GW2 for me was you could do (almost) everything at the beginning, and playing more only got you stuff that looked cooler at the time.
Have any of you stepped into PVP?

Yes pvp. Its pretty good. the 8v8 is the most balanced/satisfying. But shadow war can be fun and is a neat concept. You mass pvp over capture points in the same world map as regular game... just phased out of the pve folks's way.
This is neat because say you were a smart type... you gather your team near what would be a control point in the real world. When your team queues up and inserts.... its where you stand in the real world on the first spawn. So.... instant offense. Bear in mind its only the first spawn and would require a lot of coordination.
shotguns are king right now, and if you have a good sniper rifle its a a one hit kill to the head. But couple it with the very fast movement speed and fact you can jump 20 feet up.... headshots at range require a steady hand and a mostly stationary target.
there is fun to be had there.

Just a tip for those who've done EGO codes and are trying to pick a starting power: If you got the Scavenger EGO perk from the codes, you can pick up Overcharge almost whenever you want, it just requires you put on point in the perk above Scavenger and then you can grab Overcharge.
I started with Cloak and now I have both powers available.
I did not even think about this. Thank you... I have to reroll now, but thank you. Ha.

Sorry to cut out on you guys, but running around in party on games I am still trying to wrap my head around is pretty dislocating for me. I'll catch up once I figure out which direction is North.
...and when you are done with that; take a folding
chair to Creation and then suplex the Void.

no worries man.... drink it in at your pace and we'll catch up when we do.
i think pve is best in 2-3s in this. In beta and here it just seemed to flow better than 4's.

Has anyone been brave enough to get this on PS3/360? I tried the beta a couple weekends ago on PS3 and thought it was spectacularly awful. 2007-era graphics and a framerate to match. The shooting was ok, but the game seemed shallow. Like an mmo-lite. Bargain bin fodder, in other words. I'm not interested in the PC version. I'm an IT tech and I have recently developed a profound distaste for playing games on my beast of a gaming machine after fixing computers all day at work. Has anything been improved since the last beta weekend?
I sprung for the Ultimate Edition, cause the goodies hit all the right spots for me and I'm also a sucker.
The whole package is actually one of the nicest of its kind.
The messenger bag is rather decent.
The statue is small, but very well detailed.
The 100 page, hard-bound art book is fairly standard, but pretty cool.
What I've heard of the soundtrack is quite stunning. Bear McCreary proves again his mastery of soundtrack composition.
There are some stickers, postcards, a VBI contract printed on plastic and a bonus disc that I haven't looked at yet.
And it's all tied up in a cool box that's made to look like a cage for the hell bug statue.
There's a few digital extras I haven't got a hold of yet and the season pass is included. Between the season pass and all the physical goodies, I felt justified with extra large price tag.
Ok this "You have a 120hz monitor so fuck you, you don't get a Settings menu and oh sometimes the ESC key will crash you" is seriously the most asinine bug I've ever seen.
In other news, in game as Aiserou, will send a friend invite as soon as it lets me.

14,500 for it. Blue, Bright Green, Orange, Yellow, Red available.
Nice. 14,500 doesn't sound too bad.

So.. I found out the reason my text chat isn't working. When you disable voice chat in-game, because you're using skype or something, you disable all text chat as well. Amazing.

Same thing here, hopefully they get it sorted quickly.
I'm ingame as Volte, enjoying it so far but the UI is pretty terrible.

I brought up the full chat box somehow while trying to figure out how to actually say something to someone and now I can't make it go away.
I can do nothing else while it is up. Can't move, can't bring up menus, nothing.
UI'S, MAN! HOW DO THEY WORK?!?!
