I've suffered through plenty of King Morons in my time.

Majority of them were women. No, that didn't make things better.

My teachers were great. My peers were animals who I long to forget.
Eh, I feel like a lot of the instant death stuff doesn't even come up as often in 4 as it did in 3. In general, there are less bosses where you hit a hard barrier where its impossible to continue without certain resistances or attacks.

Anyway, the events in February are great.
The game actually recognizes if you're dating all the heroines on valentines day. They all get super peeved about who gets to give you their special chocolate. You then have to go apologize to them one by one before finally meeting the girl you actually chose to see that day.

Of course, rise being rise, she was perfectly cool with the fact that she managed to come out on top.

It would be nice if more of the game was cognizant of your actions in social links.

Amen. I would have liked a "I have a girlfriend so fuck off" dialogue option.

I know Persona 1/2 and 3/4 are in the same world with respect to eachother, but did they ever indicate whether Persona 1 and 2 were also in the same world as 3 and 4? I thought it was a different world after 2, but I don't recall.

I'm trying to parse your second and third sentences in a way that doesn't make you sound like you're hilariously sexist and I'm coming up blank

also I'm replaying P3P and it's still really fucking annoying how they removed the cutscenes, especially with the godawful and terribly written exposition they used as filler that removes complete narrative weight and drama to a bunch of pivotal scenes in P3, especially the beginning

too bad they took out the cutscenes and put that clumsily-narrated bullshit in its place, because if they kept them they'd have a definitive version of P3 (especially since The Answer is godawful fanfiction bullshit and the story's better served with it gone and a new fem protag to replace, so the loss makes P3P a lighter, stronger product)

    ohhhhhhhhhhh well

also how's P4G, did they keep all the cutscenes this time around and is the fem protag as rad as I hope

There's two new links. One with Marie, the new Velvet Room girl, and one with
    Adachi

Also most links now have the last couple segments voice acted, which is nice.

Yosuke is a male teenager. A plausible one. It's what makes him a good character. His dumbass moments get blown way out of proportion though.

I think most of you have forgotten how awful teenagers often are. It's one of the things the P4 cast has over the P3 cast. The cast of Persona 3 didn't act anything like teenagers, except Junpei.

Persona 4 Golden is an enhanced port of Persona 4 in basically every way. They cut nothing (except where they replaced stuff with better stuff, like the new post-combat shuffle system) and added to almost everything. Here's a list of everything oh god it is long
Two new Social Links: Marie, a Persona 4 Golden exclusive character, and Adachi. Both Social Links can unlock new contents on story, such as new dungeon and additional scenes for all ending types (Bad/Good/True)
New Difficulty levels similar to Persona 3 Portable. On New Game+, the player can change and even customize the difficulty levels for individual game elements in the config menu. The pre-set levels of difficulty are:
Safety (Very Easy in NA Version)
Easy (Left untouched in NA Version, used to be called Beginner)
    Normal
Hard (Left Untouched in NA Version, used to be Expert)
Risky (Very Hard in NA Version)
    Additional voice over dialog.
Chie and Teddie have new voices in the English versions .
    New animated cutscenes.
More Personas, including new Ultimate Personas for the Investigation Team.
New areas, such as a beach and a ski resort. Okina City, which was only seen during certain Social Link scenes, is now accessible.
New events, such as a Halloween event and a skiing trip.
Player can explore Inaba on evening time, with few limitation places (similar to Persona 3)
Yu and his friends now have motorbikes to get around various areas.
Certain equipment and accessories changes your party member's appearance, much like in Persona 3 FES and Persona 3 Portable. This equipment goes in a different slot and does not affect the party's stats.
New Garden and Bug Catching features.
    Trophies
The ability to choose which skills can be inherited by the persona you are fusing.
The Vox Populi (Voice of the People) and SOS are new additions to the game, available while connected to the PlayStation Network.
The Vox Populi can be used to see what other players of Persona 4 Golden chose to do during the current day in the game. The feature is also available in the Velvet Room to see what personas other players are currently fusing.
The SOS feature calls other online players for help in dungeons and allows you to send help to others and is recieved as a gift of a minor amount of health and spirit. The amount restored by the SOS is very little and isn't restricted by the current health status of your party.
New scene skipping function for those who played the PS2 version that just want to explore new features.
If player fulfills criteria for at least good ending, daily activities are expanded to February 14th 2012, giving more time for events and social links.
New epilogue for the True Ending.
Changes to the requests of NPCs or the fox.
Some changes to the flow of battle:
Some shadows/enemies have changed their attribute (weakness/strength/null) or area spawn
    Shuffle Time has been revised
    Rebalanced characters
Rise can now assist the Investigation Team in All-Out-Attacks
    Tag Team attacks
Cavalry Attacks: Attacks from members of the Investigation Team that are not currently in the party. These usually are a follow up to Weak/Critical attacks that down an additional enemy or two allowing for an All-Out-Attack
A new "TV Listings" menu, for displaying bonus content unlocked through the main game. Bonus content and the game itself are presented as television shows. The various shows are:
Song Battle 2012 - Various clips from Persona Music Live 2008 and 2009
Mr. Edogawa's TV Classroom - Lectures on the various themes of the game and their relation to psychology.
Midnight Miracle Quiz - A Quiz show with questions regarding minor aspects of Inaba and the Shadow World. This character dialogue in this content is fully voiced.
Daily Personamations! - A hub for rewatching the game's animated cutscenes. Scenes are unlocked as they are encountered during play.
P4 Golden - The main game, this program serves as a link to return to the game.
Giants of P - A series that shows Persona 4 concept art with commentary on each piece. Additional pieces of art are unlocked as the story progresses.
HEE! HEE! HOO! Music King - An in-game music player for listening to previously encountered music. Additional tracks are unlocked through playing the game.
Persona Hits - This series shows various Japanese television commercials for Persona, Persona 3 and, Persona 4.
What is P4 Arena? - Plays the P1 Grand Prix introduction video from the Persona 4 Arena story mode.
P4 the Animation! - A Japanese extended trailer for the Persona 4 anime, this content has the original Japanese audio and does not contain subtitles.
The Midnight Channel - A Minigame accessable only when the PlayStation Vita's clock is at Midnight until 1:00 AM. It features Teddie covered by TV static and can be manipulated with the device's touchscreen. Teddie is fully voiced in this mode.

junpei in contrast was pretty much everything yosuke wanted to be but better. he was humble, he was nice, he was genuinely funny, and he treated everyone with respect. he had failings- sometimes he got too prideful and he sometimes fucked things up.

if junpei met a gay dude, he'd be all "so you like dudes? yeah that's coo" AND THAT WOULD BE THE END OF IT. as opposed to yosuke which literally every interaction as soon as he learns that dude is gay is like "DUDE YOU ARE GAY AND GOING TO IMMINENTLY RAPE ME. Darn, that's further ahead then I was hoping.

At what point will I have seen the majority of the gameplay enhancements they made to Golden? I still have time before I write the review, but obviously not enough to get through the entire game.

From a technical standpoint I can already call this a must-have. The game looks sharper, loads faster, the bonus videos are addictive and entertaining. As a "port" it's just plain perfect.

I really hate the Vita's screen-dimming feature though. I have the text set to auto, so the screen constantly dims every couple of minutes if I'm not pushing something. Worse still, there seems to be no way to disable this.

It totally does. Less blurring effect, and the sharpened textures make everything look much clearer and cleaner. It's a minor enhancement, but it makes the game look much better than the PS2 version.

Yes. Be mindful that Vita stills viewed on a computer monitor are going to be seen at a much lower pixel density than on the 5" Vita screen.

Okay, this will come in handy.

But honestly, I'd hate to spoil all the features out of the gate. Suffice to say, holy crap that's a lot of stuff, and this is probably why we still don't have Persona 5.

Majority of them were women. No, that didn't make things better.

I'm trying to parse your second and third sentences in a way that doesn't make you sound like you're hilariously sexist and I'm coming up blank

I hate to break this to you, but female teachers can be jerks too.

No, that is not to say that all female teachers are jerks, or that they have a higher likelihood of being jerks, or that we tend to view female teachers as kind and patient women, or that we shouldn't view them as kind, patient women, or the hundred million other things you're looking to pick apart in order to fuel your never-ending feminist crusade.

The problem is that you felt the need to mention that your jerky teachers were female (which is irrelevant) and then preface what you expect to hear in return (which you then strawman later) with your argument. You think that people are going to say that your teachers couldn't have been jerks or were less jerky because they were ladies and then when someone says that your sentence is weird you immediately imagine every single argument that you think the other person is making even though they haven't said anything. It looks like you have a chip on your shoulder about how women are perceived and it makes you look like a crazy person. I am not saying that you are a crazy person, but the way you have presented it gives the appearance of coming in with an agenda that you don't need to have. If that is not the case you should pause for a moment and think about whether you could have phrased things better.

That aside, picked this game up recently. It's gorgeous. It's genuinely good-looking. Everything is bright, and pops, and is just fantastic to look at. I've played this and the free PS+ games and as far as I'm concerned it's the best-looking game on the system, though it owes a lot of that to the great UI and character portraits. Also I don't care about fancy cutscenes and graphics so my opinions on graphics may be bad.

And yeah, Yosuke's a dumb jerk. 100% the point. He's a dumb jerk and under most circumstances none of your group would actually be friends with him in the long run (Well maybe MC would, but that's because he doesn't have a personality). Hell he doesn't have any friends outside of your group. He's a dumb jerk and a loser, and he also proved that he has the strength of self to slowly overcome his faults, and he helped everyone during uncanny and stressful situations.

If he doesn't change everyone will slowly drift away from him as they all get older, but right now there's the camraderie of all having suffered through the TV world together, and that overcomes a lot.

I'd consider Gravity Rush the best looking game on the system, personally (especially in the comic book cutscenes - amazing use of the gyroscope), but modern Persona games have had an impeccable sense of design and it really shines through on this game. All of the menus are just a joy to look at, and ooze style out of every pixel.

That's pretty much the crux of it: the game's menus and colors are just "right" for a handheld. I could watch the title screen sparkle to life over and over and still be impressed by it. Everything just pops.

Just goes to show how important a game's art style is. It completely pulls the blinds over the fact that the actual character models are nothing special, or that some of the textures still have a grimy look to them. You don't notice because the presentation is just terrific.

My beef is that Yosuke, and really every character is limited by the fact that they have an Investigation Mode and a Social Link Mode. As somebody said earlier, your impact on the story with S.Links means pretty much jack shit.

    Yosuke
In Investigation Mode, he's a dickish perverted comic relief. During S.Link Mode he says he refuses to be with anyone until he's avenged Saki, and he's still mourning her. And at Rank 9, he basically spits out the message of P4 since Yu can't talk.

That's just one example. It's why I like Yukiko much much more during her S.Link.
I got all the "boring" flack but found her introduction chilling. She was being repeatedly dragged out of school to work at the family business like the smart girl in Stand and Deliver, but instead of a teacher going over there to call her parents out, everyone's attitude other than Chie's was "oh look she's doing child labor for her parents! How feminine and glamorous!" So I wasn't surprised she wanted to run away, yet this was the opposite extreme of her original emotional dependencies. It becomes clear her family and worker-friends all love her, and if she had just asked for some space she would have gotten it. She overcomes this beautifully in the end.

Another example: I really hoped that studying with Chie and Yosuke would have an impact on their shitty grades. Alas.

Yukiko is by a huge margin the least interesting member of Persona 4's cast. Beep boop I am traditional demure/subservient japanese love interest.

    Love me.

Well I guess I found her interesting because twice I've seen people follow through with what she was trying to do and twice it ended in tears.

I think Yu and Yukiko(zing) make the best couple, aesthetically speaking.
