As I can't log in, might as well post some thoughts. Didn't want to drink the cool-aid too heavily, but having played the game I'm enjoying myself immensely. The combat lies somewhere on the scale between DA2 and KoA, which is pretty much what I was hoping for. Melee feels a little too latency dependent, but hopefully that can get fixed up.
Took down one of those "strong" (I guess rare/elite equivalent?) mobs underwater with the thief's counter skill (4 with a spear). Block a hit, counterattack for massive damage, repeat. Pretty ridiculous, didn't take any damage.
Dodging melee enemies has been a lot of fun with dual pistol, signet of agility for restoring endurance and the healing dodge roll. Meleeing isn't nearly as satisfying even though it generally does a lot more damage. Not too fond of swords for PvE because the shadowstep to/away from enemies isn't that useful, and the dual dagger skill for respositioning has almost too short a range. Events where a shitload of ranged guys show up and instagib you aren't much fun though.
I'll probably go bow/pistols in live, which frees me up to get leatherworking rather than weaponsmithing. Not found who to ask to buy the gathering tools, which could do with some work. It seems like there's less tracking than I've seen in some videos, like clicking on a renown heart and it highlighting the area as with events? Not sure why that was taken out.
Enjoying the personal story stuff, didn't play TOR so it feels novel (and not every character is Metzen so I'm not rolling my eyes at the voice acting yet). Haven't even gotten around to the PvE stuff yet, but frankly for me the single player content feels worth the cost of admission (though 80 does seem like a really high level cap right out the gate).
Also the numbers thing. Ive noticed them too, they seem to be debug related, so not really for the consumer. This is beta so I dont expect them to remove certain debug lines while they are still in development.
Second whats the beef with Old Woman? I dont get what you are trying to say.
Isn't the commerce working? I clicked "buy" on several crafting materials and money was deducted, but the items never appeared. Neither in my inventory nor in the bank.
Of you are buying things through commerce, they get mailed to you via the in-game mail system.
This is actually no longer true. The items are available in a pickup tab (the bottom tab on the left when you have the Commerce panel open) and you have to be physically at a trading post in order to pick 'em up. This was added very recently, and the messaging/UI needs major work, so it's hard to know that's what you need to do. My fault there.
Since you seem like an UI person, and I've raged over the UI in a few posts, I thought I'd put my money where my mouth is:
gw009.jpg
Please excuse my poor scribbles... I was jotting stuff down zoomed in and forgot to zoom out before I saved.
The main take away here is that I don't get why you don't group/frame the UI with those lovely dynamic brush strokes you use throughout the rest of the game?
The entire UI feels like it's a bunch of squares, text and numbers thrown randomly on the screen. I know it's not, but that was my first impression. I had no idea where to look, what was important, or how stuff worked. I still have a hard time with all the stuff in the hero panels.
I am not the right person for this feedback, but I can pass it along. I'm web UI, which the commerce panel happens to be, so that's the extent of my in-game contribution. If you haven't already posted this on the gw2 forums (assuming they're stable today with the crazy traffic, which is a dangerous assumption), I suggest you do so, it's a very nice way of explaining feedback on something that's sometimes hard to describe verbally.
Thanks, will do... when I'm able to log in again... (can't even log into the forums right now).
Heard the proposition that RIAA and MPAA should join forces and form "Music And Film Industry Association"?
You know what guys, fuck this game. How the hell am I supposed to enjoy it when I can only do one of the many things I want to do at a time? A man shouldn't have to choose between awesome PvP, WvW and PvE. Be like WoW and make sure one of them sucks at any given time, so I can focus my efforts on the not bad part. This isn't fair.
I just wish there was more enticement for the defense force to get on the ground and fight, and not all right in front of the keep doors. Maybe there are secondary objectives attackers can do around the keep walls? As it is its a little too hectic with everyone in one spot.
It really bothers me when people phrase beta feedback like it's an unfixable, fundamentally flawed part of the game that has no hope of getting better, so now the game sucks. =/

My most pressing concern that I hope we can sort out soon is the overflow stuff, because frankly, this game reaches its maximum potential when you can successfully play in the world with whomever you're intending to play with. Those are the times when I've cried laughing and had what felt like real adventures with my buddies, and suddenly, eleven hours have vanished. When you can't guarantee that experience because of an inability to remedy the overflow separation, it's instantly a buzzkill. Luckily, I'm pretty sure everyone at work agrees.
The damage in this game feels really weird. Fight one enemy, no problem, an event starts and suddenly shit is hitting for literally 50% of my health and I can't even tell what's hitting me in all the chaos. That fire shaman in Charr lands? Is there supposed to be an animation that's not displaying or something? I was standing at the furthest range from where I could shoot him and I would still just periodically keel over dead (from full health), even though he did nothing in my direction. Ended up just walking forward, firing my cooldowns, then walking back out of range until they recharged.
(Alright, if I can ever connect to the Beta-forums I'll post this in there too, but I got a portion of it in my write-up when asked for feedback. WAM, feel free to snag this if you like, because right now the beta forums just keep sending out errors when I try to load the web page, probably because of server overload.)
Assuming you're talking about the area just after the intro area. The fire shaman does several AoE attacks regularly with target circles and everything, then he occasionally explodes shooting fireballs in multiple directions like a mortar which don't show up with regular AoE circles. You just have to be quick or lucky enough to get out of their way, or dodge when he does it. The biggest problem is that that event usually involves several dozen people who show up randomly, get hit because they can't/wont dodge, and die but the event is still hitting the upper atmosphere of difficulty because those people are still "involved" in the event. It also takes place in a very narrow path that causes a lot of lag due to the multitude of people fighting in a small space.
What I was able to do when I got into the event was pull the shaman further and further out of the path into the much more open swamp just below it using my "downed" grapple tactic continuously (it took several deaths to do this, but for another engineer with a grapple ability on their weapon should be pretty easy). This gave people room to spread out and dodge the attacks, allowed people to quickly get back into combat from the nearby waypoint, and we could get sufficient space to get range without backing into a corner. It should have been a zerg rush once I did that, but instead it simply allowed us to fight the encounter on our terms and use the space to survive longer.
Similarly, the rats seemed to go from "okay, I can take a few hits" to "two of them look at you and you die" within several feet of going into their lair. It just felt like my Engineer was made of paper (even with a shield equipped) and all too often I died without being able to tell what killed me.
Once the event starts and people show up, the rats begin to get worse, but alone they're not much. Also, when the event starts they begin to pick up cannonballs, which they proceed to throw at you doing as much damage as you do when you throw it at them.
Just remember, even with a shield, your engineer is paper. You don't have the upgrades, skills or weapon sets at that level to make the engineer much of anything but a glass cannon.
A LoL-style death synopses would help loads. For all I know there were ranged mobs, but there was no way for me to tell, friend and foe all look the same when everyone's Charr.
Also, how are you meant to "release" after dying? Resurrecting at a point costs money, fine, but what if you don't have money? Or if you don't want to spend money because you don't intend to go back into the fight?
The waypoint at the beginning of the area doesn't cost money to release to if I remember correctly.
Edit: Bit on combat, and what I've seen
Something I'm seeing a lot is the old WoW combat tactic of "Become a Tree, don't need to be a druid to do it!". People just stand there in combat, and I'm not even talking about dodging. I look at how people are fighting encounters and it's usually just a clusterbomb of people in one spot all just standing still. As an engineer I'm strafing, moving and keeping myself out of one spot to make it easier to run from AoEs and damage. I know close combat guys have a lot less flexibility in this option, but man, all these ranged guys standing right in front of the guy they're shooting are just asking to get hit. And all the huge groups are just asking to get an AoE mass-death
Also, been trying to get into the guild, who do I contact to get an invite now? Been trying random people with [NICE] over their heads with little result.

I was thinking, what if the attackers could bring in sappers that would dig under the walls, then you had to defend npcs carrying explosives underneath, then finally light the fuse
all the while defending the tunnel from being collapsed by the defenders.
Also the numbers thing. Ive noticed them too, they seem to be debug related, so not really for the consumer. This is beta so I dont expect them to remove certain debug lines while they are still in development.

You guys are talking about your reduced level (for the zone content) and actual level numbers in green/white, are you?
Interface
- Need shift-modifiers on the keys.
- Need to be able to click-and-drag abilities instead of just remapping. Two very different functionality, IMO.
- Notification on the "global cooldown"? There's a queue system going on and with the lag, it really makes combat feel clunky.
- Clearer notifications for users in WvW to determine what they need to do to get siege weapons and other objectives. The event system is nice, but it seems to be a slower transition period from questing to WvW fun.
Edit* Add - WvW has too much focus on gate clearing. There needs to be a better way to do this.
- Add a remove point button for the traits window. Having to reset all points is frustrating if you don't have a calculator handy.
- Being able to move basic UI elements, such as the actual bar or the health bar of enemies, etc.
Warrior Profession (I have done most testing with the Warrior profession)
- The amount of fun this class is... amazing. Very well done, altogether. The class requires some time to master, and I like that.

Those world boss fights get a heck of a lot easier when you get a water elementalist in the mix. I was fighting the broodmother with water, which heals players in range of my attack as well, and that was very satisfying (even though I'm not sure I did much damage, it felt like I was helping on both fronts).
@Dedwrekka Guild is full at the moment, we have to kick people to make room, or make a seperate guild if somone wants to volunteer to head it and be on enough to accept invites.

I don't get WvW. As far as I can tell, there are four main things that go on.
1. Run with a huge zerg, kill everything.
2. Run away from aforementioned zerg.
3. Sit in front of a keep, break the door.
4. Sit on top of a keep, try and probably fail to defend, because of the zerg out front.

It really bothers me when I keep reading things like "compensation" and "released" and "out the door" when this is a beta. There are SO MANY people feeling like this is the game, and its here, and its final.
I know there are two things that kind of support this (it was obvious Anet really pushed for this to be a showcase version of the beta and thus be stable, and they paid to play it) but people need to be realistic. Also I am sure the amount of data they are getting out of this is astronomical. Those guys are gonna be pulling all nighters for a LONG time going over all this.
But all one has to do is look at the list of things that changed not longer before this BWE in response to feedback to know if everyone is saying the same thing, its going to change.
And fuck, even if its not at release, I know I personally like the game enough at this point to be able to wait for the inevitable upgrades to come over its first year. If you have ever played a successful mmo that hasn't gone through that even after release feel free to name it.
Also, I kind of love playing a game pre fixes. I like being able to say "well back in the day all this shit you take for granted wasnt all that great!"

The large force is only one part of it, while they're fucking around smaller groups are able to run about taking over their resources. You can't properly defend a keep if you suddenly aren't receiving resources from supply camps.
