I still think the Norn look kinda retarded in the world.
They are just big humans. Like, abnormally big humans. When you fight enemies as a Norn, it's like hitting children.
As cool as that sounds, artistically it looks SO wrong, haha.

I am sad I am now done with the beta. Stupid work.
That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the Guardian, but just didn't have enough time to unlock more than a few trait points.
Will there be a beta in the future where we can explore some mid-to-late-game content?

Doubtful, since they are resetting everything for each beta weekend. I think most of us will be playing early-game content until launch (unless you can dedicate enough time to grind towards the endgame just before the weekend ends).
Melee combat definately needs some work. The overall feel of it is very floaty most of the time (as a warrior.) And it needs some better sound effects for things like Hundred blades, which sounds like Im whiffing most of the time even if I am hitting. Im hitting this dude with a giant greatsword really fast. Give me more sound feedback!

I don't think we know whether or not they're resetting for each weekend. They might, they might not. Depends on what they want us to try out.
Want to find me on a gaming service? I'm SwashbucklerXX everywhere.
I don't know what just happened but I may have decided on Elementalist for release. I think it's the brain damage from non stop playing. I'll have a month to recover and see if it's just some sort of long term exposure damage or something.
Clothies usually aren't my thing but between the staff and the dual dagger skills. . . holy crap.

for those of you interested in seeing how a melee mesmer fights, here are a few fights i recorded just to give an idea of how the skills work together
liberal use of the clone spam on leap
its a uniquely fun way of fighting which revolves around evading, blocking, being invulnerable and generally avoiding all damage
I haven't seen it mentioned here, am I the only one who thinks the voice acting is really bad? Human street urchin here. Its the main reason I haven't done much story stuff
I did Human (Male) Commoner and from what I've done of the Story quests so far (up to 14) the VA for that line has been perfectly acceptable. Not going to win any awards or anything, but I never groaned or felt that it was some intern doing the voices. So might be down to specific voice/voice sets that need work.

The Great DAMNED STEAM SALES AND WII/U Backlog Just Finished: Borderlands (waste of $7)/Mario Brothers U/The Last Story/Tropico 4 Currently Playing: NS2/ZombiU/PlanetSide 2/Ys/Dota2/Xenoblade Chronicles On Hold: Prince of Persia: Warrior Within/GW2/Scribblenauts Coming Next: Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones/X-Com Classic
So I spent half an hour in the borderlands tonight and found one way mesmers are kind of screwed. Those duplicates? They don't fool you once you realize something.
So. I'm fighting a mesmer with my elementalist and clicking through the names to find the right "red defender" to hit to make the duplicates stop. I finally click on one that has a green arrow next to the name and say "No... there's no way". Well I give it a shot and focus on that one nametag with the nifty green arrow on it. I get taken down and in my last moments I throw everything at that green arrow. I'm at a tiny sliver of health just thinking "Dear god did I really just focus on a duplicate this whole time", when the mesmer goes down, the duplicates star evaporating and I let out a little breath of relief and sadness, knowing that I just figured out how to pick the mesmer out of the crowd and at the same time I'd hate to be a mesmer right now.
Every time someone it up-leveled or down-leveled for an area, a green arrow appears next to their name letting you know that they have been artificially lowered or not (at least that's what I'm getting from it). Anyways. That green arrow shows up all the time when looking at someone's name in PvP, even if their name just shows up as "Red defender" there's still that little green arrow just above their head and next to their name.
After my first hour with GW2 I thought to myself, "hmmmm, I think I just wasted $150." After five hours with GW2 I thought to myself, "how am I going to break the news to my friends and family I'm quitting my job to play GW2 full time?"
I threw me off so much at first because it is so deceivingly different from other MMO's I've played. Once I finally understood it, I was hooked.
I still think the Norn look kinda retarded in the world.
They are just big humans. Like, abnormally big humans. When you fight enemies as a Norn, it's like hitting children.
As cool as that sounds, artistically it looks SO wrong, haha.
I think they look awesome... well the Male norns do. The female Norn's just look like really tall supermodels. With the exception of the skinny male Norn body, all of the Norn have an almost hulkish look to them. They look like giants. But a female Norn fighting a female human DOES look artistically retarded. The devs should have grown a pair and dared to venture away from the sexy female body. Well, ok, they could have EASILY made the female charr catgirls in bikinis, so I'll forgive them.
I think the humans are done TERRIBLY. It's impossible to make an ugly looking human character without abusing the sliders to make your character deformed. It feels like you have 10X more flexibility with male Norn appearance than with human males, just because they have more diversity in their faces, facial hair, and bodyshapes. Want to make your Norn tall, slim, and sexy? Sure! Want to make him look like the Hulk? Sure! Want to make him look like Santa Cause after a make-out session with a cheese grater? Sure!
Want your human male to be anything but skinny and sexy? TOO FUCKIN BAD!

So I decided to switch it up today and went Staff and Sword/Sword on my Mesmer to give new weapons a try. Was a bit painful at first, but after I got used to it I think these two sets are even better then Greatsword.
Staff is just a fucking beast, even solo. And it can only get better as I level and spec for more condition damage. It kinda makes the Greatsword look pathetic though when the staff is a far better kiting weapon. It's just way more damage because you don't need that max distance for the big hits, the clone+evade move on 2 makes it way easier to get out of sticky spots and the staff pumps out more damage with all the clones and Phantasms you can really easily pump out and keep around.
And Sword/Sword is amazing. Anyone telling you Mesmer can't do melee is full of it. I was beating the shit outta 2 higher level Ettins in face to face combat with double swords and taking like zero damage. Between dodge, the evade flurry move, the block and the clones distracting them, you are really really hard to hit.
I also soloed a lvl 20 group-ish quest in Kessek Hills at lvl 17 with the two above sets. Once the combat clicks, you can do some amazing shit in this game.
Something I was curious about in regards to wuvwuv:
When talking to the EB Trainer, it mentioned something about a "treasure" hidden in the northwest part of the map if you can find the keys for it. Did anyone ever do this, and what happened?

I dunno! All I do is wail on people while running around them like an idiot and they die! The greatsword is even better than the hammer!
And then I picked up an ice bow somebody conjured and shot ice arrows at stuff! Fighting level 5 and 6 centaurs at level 3 is a blast.
It is so cool how many options you have in this game. Each profession is distinctly different from each other and each profession changes based on what weapon you use.
I guess I should say that while elementalist is winning right now I still have a lot of testing to do before I decide. Next BWE will see me making a warrior and giving the guardian a second try.
The warrior is the only class I didn't get a chance to make during the whole BWE and I think it has a lot of potential to be a good fit for me. I wanted to try both my heavy favorites and my "not so sure" professions before I got around to trying it and I ended up running out of time.

So I just finished up my experience of GW2 for tonight and I have to say I came away almost completely impressed, flushed with enjoyment and vindicated in my faith in this game. It's still a ways from being finished and needs more optimization, polish and tweaks to a few classes (guardians need more offensive capability, ranger pets need to not suck), but on the whole, it was a great weekend filled with adventure, 12 kills in WvW and an absolutely amazing time with a 2h hammer in that Destroyer fissure in Kessex Hills, to name a few things.
I'll probably post a more in depth review of my time in the game and my opinion on it's current state later tomorrow, with screenshots. I'll also be making the next thread soon since we demolished this one in a month. Here's hoping we last this long for the next BWE in May. I hope everyone enjoyed their time in Tyria and I look forward to our next weekend together. Your all welcome to continue using the GW2 PA TS3 server for gaming and whatever. I know I enjoyed listening to WvW strat talks and random musings on different jumping puzzles.
As a side note, I didn't have much success livestreaming past Friday for a few different reasons, mostly technical on my end, and I think I'm going to try streaming the next BWE later into it's cycle as well if I do manage to do so. Friday was too unstable for me to get anything but laggy footage, and I believe it would be better to try waiting until it settles down as it did for Saturday and today before going that route again. Livestreams are a finicky beast to be sure. I hope when release comes I'll have something I can have on all the time.

Warrior and Engineer remain my favourites. I only tried ranger and thief in passing though so I need more time to decide what I think of the rest. I'm thinking those and necromancers will be next BWE's professions of choice to test thoroughly.

I give the necromancer a huge thumbs up. While the pets have the same issue as the ranger pets it doesn't matter quite as much because they are a lot more expendable and less vital to the class. They can kite like crazy if you use the staff to drop marks in the path of the enemy and swap to double daggers for life steal goodness and then back to staff for the marks. This was ahead awhile in my list until I tried the elementalist.
I did enjoy the ranger quite a bit and it was good times but it was in spite of the pet and not because of it.
There was nothing wrong with the thief when I tried it other than the fact that I usually don't like stealthy classes and this did nothing to convince me otherwise. Dual pistol skill three "unload" is fun though. I was just left feeling bored. It's not the profession's fault that I don't like the mechanics though.
Now, I do love the engineer but as time went on I started to feel it wane from the top spot. I'm not sure what was happening but once you actually get in to play these games sometimes expectations of class enjoyment changes. All that's happening is that my idea of the game is aligning with the actual game to provide me a better picture of the over all reality of the game.

Thief and necro for me. Love them both, especially the thief. Couldn't get into the mesmer, but it looks fun. The hunter was... bleh.
Going to play abit with the elementalist now, but I won't have much time to try. Maybe next BWE I'll be able to try the other classes more.
i love that mesmers take a two handed greatsword and think "hrmm, let's make this shoot lasers, and let's have it do MORE damage the further we are away"

It would be idiotic of ANet to have us beta test the 1-20 content over and over again.
If it's anything like the GW1 beta weekends we will have weekends where we make characters that start at level 30,50,70 etc. and beta test the higher level content.
Edit- I'm definitely going with warrior. Will probably have a ranger, necromancer and maybe a thief. Then i'll probably keep one slot open as a 5v5 PvP character so I can easily go between any other the other 4 professions for some competitive PvP.
Epic screenshot is EPIC. I would like to know what's on the other side of this wall behind me though.

I have solidified my main. Ranger is IT for me unless they fuck with it too much before launch.
And if you think pets suck, hooooooo boy are you wrong. Maybe its just feline pets are a little too good right now, but I was able to forge up a build that made him more dangerous than ME.
I was practicing all my chars at 80 with their builds on the class bots in the mists. I reached a point where I could solo them all with just my pet and my buffs on it, no damage from me.
Now necro pets, those things are a joke. You have 0 control over them and they are weak as shit. Makes a minion master type build useless currently.
Necros are deliciously resilient. What's that? I'm out of health? Let me whip out my second health bar! Firing the staff autoattack into a packed group of mobs basically filled the life force bar to maximum in a couple of hits thanks to it penetrating and generating life force with each hit. I had a few sessions of repeat death shroud spam in crowded areas for a few events, which was pretty great.
How many jumping puzzles have been found so far? I came across one in the south of Plains of Ashford (Runeclaw Expanse) and another in the south of Diessa Plateau, on the wall. It really shows off how much it feels a lot more like an action game than RPG.
I think by far, the coolest thing I saw this weekend was in WvWvW. It was from tonight, and my friends and I were in the Green Borderlands. We were defending the center keep from the green team. They had built a trebuchet at the tower on the right side of the map, and were launching rocks from that location at the keep wall, damaging it. I was amazed how far those things could shoot. It was pretty awesome. Check it out if you didn't get to see, you can see the trebuchet on the tower oh soo far in the distance, and see the flaming rock incoming.
Spoilered because I don't know how large the pictures will be.
The wind was pushing the smoke of the rock. But yea, when I came up to that keep and saw the incoming bombardment from that trebuchet it was a "holy shit" moment.
And I had this really close game of structured PvP. I didn't do so hot, was testing out a thief because I was getting destroyed by them while on my elementalist.
