Christopher Walken's Accent

I once thought that his accent and cadence were unique, but yesterday on NPR I heard a diplomat interviewed and he sounded almost exactly like Walken. So: is it a regional dialect? If so, where from? How does one end up sounding like that?

His accent is from his home town, New York, but his cadence is unrelated, just how he tends to talk.

My professor for Pidgins and Creoles sounds exactly like him. I can ask where he's from?

  • The cadence is entirely his own creation. He pretty much literally looks at his lines in a script and inserts periods in random places.

  • If you'd like to hear Walken's accent without the pauses, check out his earlier work.
