Man, so many good games on sale. Damn you Interplay!

Luckily I already have the FOs and MDK2. But I'm tempted by a few. Is Freespace 2 good? I've never really played any space sims so I'm not sure what to expect.
It is so good it managed to kill the whole genre and is to many the best space sim ever released.
My recommendation is to buy 1 and 2, install FSOpen and play through both of them in FS2 engine. Oh, and get a joystick.

I wish I wasn't terrible to the point of fun detriment in those games, I always loved watching a friend of mine play X-Wing and all the other beauties.

I'm gonna grab Theme Hospital later, as well as Kabuto and Kingpin from the Interplay sale.

Any other essential Interplay games I should own? I already own the Fallout games, Freespace 2 and Sacrifice.

X-Wing is particularly hard... at least the original version. That fucking hospital frigate mission, man, fuck that.

Wing Commander 3 is a lot easier, and it has FULL ON SPACE OPERA MOVIES with Luke Skywalker, Biff Tannen, Porn Chick, Dharma Initiative scientist dude, Gimli/Indiana Jones brosef, Alex deLarge...

    So awesome.

Castles 2 is great. I used to spend a long time making castles and hoping they would get attacked to see how well they held up. It was alot of fun. The pope is a dick though... don't make him mad.

Ah. Do they suck without a joystick? I mean I have a 360 controller. Is that efficient or will it even work? I know that's not really a joystick.

I actually have a physical copy of Sacrifice. But I never played Giants. One of the Sacrifice team members moved on to make Brutal Legend's chaotic multiplayer and Tim Schafer had no clue until fans made comparisons.

What about buying something like a Visa gift card? If you call and assign your info to it, it should work online just like a credit card.

Fairly certain I've used a prepaid visa gift card on GOG before. Only thing I've not been able to use one for was obvious stuff like recurring billing things (Redbox, Netflix, etc).

You start off in a sort of halo-esque shooter, trying to save annoying little dudes. Then you change to a running chick with a sword, then you have a few levels rampaging around as a giant.

The multiplayer involved some base building, but I don't remember if that is in the single player. It was easily the coolest part of the game though.

Starts off as a 3rd person shooter with a jetpack and open levels, then you start getting squadmates, then you suddenly get base building RTS levels and it's all awesome.
Then you hit the next chapter and you're a chick that can't fly, but can move around at the speed of light with an awesome sword. Then you start getting base building there as well and you need to create and hold your base as you build up your abilities enough to take the assault to the enemy and it's all awesome.
Then you hit the next chapter and you're a large monster, but as you play you eat people and grow until you're King Kong sized and you're munching people and grabbing them and tossing them at other people and it's all stompy stompy. Unfortunately, the very end isn't nearly as much fun as the final levels of the other two chapters, so you sort of force yourself to finish it because the writing is hilarious and you want to see the end.

[edit] Legend of Grimrock is pretty damn awesome if you like that sort of gameplay. Pretty damn hard, too.

It's preeeeeetty damned great. You don't even have to be a fan of the old-school dungeon crawlers it emulates (e.g. Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder) in order to enjoy it.

I'm still not feeling it. The realtime combat means instead of looking at the great looking monster you're watching the corner of the screen waiting for attacks to refresh, almost like a rhythm game, while backpedaling. Disappointing magic system and overly opaque character creation and stats.

I keep meaning to reroll my party 'right,' and spend more time with it. And I keep playing Civ V instead. :(

The GoG version has worked great for me so far. I'm on the 3rd level and not one single glitch, crash or freeze. It's very slightly stuttery but not to any meaningful degree.

Oh and I had a slight problem with the screen being mis-aligned but my monitor's auto-align fixed that right up.

Min/Maxing your characters isn't required at all to enjoy Grimrock in my opinion. My characters are a sloppy mess, my rogue has points all over the place, my Minotaur can't even wear armor without penalties and I'm deep into the 5th floor now and I haven't really had any problems with encounters yet except for stupid mistakes on my part. If you don't like the magic you don't have to use it either. Magic has been no requirement at all. There are several posters that have all melee and ranged parties. The game is all about rewarding experimentation instead of forcing you to optimize like so many RPGs are guilty of doing.

But if you don't like the combat then there's not much to do for that. I personally spend more time maneuvering than staring at the buttons though. I don't care about keeping up a DPS style but instead like to minimize contact when possible, so I spend most of my time watching the monsters movements and angling for a backstab. Against groups of monsters I like to kite them into a gated chokepoint where I can control the flow of combat. My greatest fear at the moment is encountering something that's smart enough to work a door. :)

This thread has forced me to buy Dungeon Keeper and HOMM3 in the last few days. I loved Bullfrog back in the day. Tell me about Theme Hospital dudes.

You have a hospital. Starts very small. If you've ever played Game Developer story on iOS, the graphics are kinda similar. You build up a hospital, hire staff, place medical equiment, radiators, trash cans, have to hire staff, etc.... patients die, they live, humor is involved. Probably my favorite sim game of all time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_64DAOrSMM

I want to buy it and download it now, but I know I"d be up all night.
