I wouldn't call it broken. In fact (by all accounts), the PC version fixes some of the bugs from the xbox release. It's mostly just very clumsy, and somewhat unstable (especially during the council rooms and bounty hunter boss). While I would normally not play the game - lamenting the lost potential - it manages to make me see past the issues.
I never played it on the xbox, but I would be somewhat surprised if the subtitles et al got screwed up during the port; that seems unlikely.
I just finished the bit with the Lizardman's prisoner. The prisoner is mute, but knows the lizardman language and the lizardman can understand English, but can't speak the sounds to make the words. So you have to talk to the lizard man and type unknown words to the prisoner, who will pantomime their vague meaning to you.
I have no idea if convincing the lizardman to free him served any kind of purpose, but it was a neat distraction.
Licensing issue (this is loosely based off of a comic series.)
Back when this was released, the license probably wasn't that expensive to get. However, there has been a movie and TV series about this property so I can imagine that the licensing fee has gone up quite a bit more than Ubisoft is willing to pay for it.

And it's a pretty neat game, well worth the 2.99 price tag.
It executes its comic book conventions quite well, and they add some interesting situational awareness cues. The everything a weapon mechanic is neat. It's fun busting someone in the face with one of those heavy glass ashtrays you used to see everywhere (it's set in the late sixties and features an appropriately funky soundtrack). It's easily tweakable through ini edits and video driver tweaks to make it look pretty damn great considering its age. The story is a fun, convoluted conspiracy and assassination plot, complete with robed conspirators. David Duchovney's tired, dead pan and phoned in delivery actually works quite well and Adam West is his usual manic self.
Saw a random video about Advent Rising and realized that it has sat unloved in my GOG account for too long. A lot of impressive world building here and hwile the audio and soundtrack are lack luster compared to Halo, its still satisfying to sprint across a battlefield, dual wielding alien sniper rifles and kung-fu'ing the shit out of alien attack dogs.
edit:To elaborate further, when an alien battleship flies by, taking shots at you from cannons you can blow up, here is some of the music that should be playing:

Advent Rising is one of my favorite PC games of all time.
You may want to pick up the advent revising patch. Fixes things like the subtitles, adds in missing videos and similar.
I would do terrible things for a sequel.
Thanks so much for the link to the fan patch. I adored the game when I played it on xbox, and had no idea that it was so broken on PC.
I had no idea this was a thing. I loved Advent Rising... need to download this tonight.
Does it work on the steam version? I already own that.
I believe I installed it over the steam version, yes.

After playing Legend of Grimrock for the first time the other day, I immediately went to GoG and bought a bunch of first-person RPGs in a similar vein. Grimrock has the style, atmosphere, beauty, and streamlining in its favor, but I want a character development system that, by itself, causes me to lose hours at a time.
...and yes, it took me forever to play LoG. I wasn't just late to the party on this one; when I got there, the building had been closed down and there were ghosts in the basement. Mushroom people, too. Those were pretty awful.
Bell is a prolific voice in video games. He performed in Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix, Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction Ratchet and Clank and the character Raziel in three games in the Legacy of Kain series, among many others. Bell is currently Reprising his role as Raziel, in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 4

Yeah, I hear Soul Reaver 3 was pretty cool and stuff. Glad they're making another sequel.

I heartily recommend the Lands of Lore series, then. I got them before LoG came out to satisfy my craving... aaaaaand sort of played the first game so much I never finished LoG after, because I was mildly burned out on the genre.
The first Lands of Lore game is fucking fantastic, clunky linear list inventory aside. Never got to try the sequel because I just didn't like the art style nearly as much. After the beautiful pixel art of the first game going to digital portraits physically hurt.
There still isn't that much stat-wise character development, but your party does at least have a personality and place in the story. And there's more than just dungeons.

Is this... news? I haven't heard that a new LoK game was in the making.

The second game is slightly different. But still good. The system is close enough to the first one, but you only control one character. However, he has enough personality for like three people. And the curse gimmick is pretty cool, and leads to some nice moments.

There are only two Soul Reaver games thus far. Unless whoever posted that on the wiki is counting Defiance as Soul Reaver 3. Either way, I call bullshit.
Although I'd love to be wrong...

The other thing is that, even if they decided to make another LoK, Amy Hennig (series director and writer) jumped ship for Naughty Dog after Defiance. Finding someone to fill her shoes wouldn't be an easy task.
After vowing to spend no money on games in January, after going a bit mad for games on the Xbox in December, I make the mistake of checking out GOG's sale.
One bundle later, and half of the point and click adventure games on my Steam wishlist are gone, and I also picked up XIII, as I missed it first time round, but remembering it looked really fun when it came out on the original xbox.
I've got some pointing and clicking to do, I guess...
Anyone played Nexus: The Jupiter Incident? It looks interesting, was hoping someone had a first-hand account.

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident is a very well done game in some regards, others really hold back what could have been a true classic. Making the wrong loadout choice is one of the big ones. You can find yourself deep into a series of missions only to find you've hamstrung yourself with your loadout with no way to fix it except go back to a previous save. That is if you didn't overwrite it.
Other than that it does a pretty great job of giving you command of a warship in space. You have control over all your major systems, have to make some cool tactical decisions, you carry a squadron of fighters and a boarding shuttle that goes out loaded with marines. The interface is pretty good too. I'd say it's worth the current price, if you are willing to maybe backtrack or just look at a guide online for optimal loadouts.
The other place I felt let down was you leave behind a very interesting humans-only conflict in the Solar System for some more standard big space opera type sci fi. I honestly lost interest in that section once I hit one of the brick walls with my load out. The story thing is pretty subjective, so I wouldn't let it bear much weight with your opinion. The presentation of it is fine, and if I recall there's some pretty decent voice acting. The change of scenery, coupled with going back and playing through a bunch of expository stuff I didn't care to go through again kind of soured my run. I've thought about going back and giving it another go recently. It does offer a style of gameplay that is fairly niche and satisfying if you are ready to accept some slow and uneven pacing in parts and the loadout thing. The story thing is really probably only a big deal to me, but I thought I'd put it out there. The briefings are fabulously done, with access to all kinds of information and details. It's a flawed gem.
Yep well Drake pretty much said it all. Unfortunately with Homeworld MIA and the Nexus 2 Kickstarted DOA we're not likely to get anything better in a long, long time. Nexus is a wonderful flawed gem that I can definitely recommend as long as you aren't annoyed by the loadout thing or by the more meta-point which is that this game could've been stupendous if it hadn't gone all trial-and-error in the single player. There are also some neato mods on ModDB for the game although I haven't tried them out yet.
I keep neglecting to check GOG's daily deals. Did Anachronox ever go on sale? I see it's listed at full price for some reason. That and Alpha Centauri are the remaining two games I'd like to get during this sale.
Last day of the sale, and we've got a second encore of previous sales. Cyber/Steampunk bundle is currently the only way to get a few Eidos game (Thief series, Deus Ex series, and Anachronox) for 75% off (only if you buy them all).
For some reason Imperium Galactica 2 popped into my head during this sale bonanza. I wish that one was on GOG.
Ahem.
It IS on iOS. So grab your iPad and give it a go. Very good interface. Fun to play. Just like how I remembered. And it gets updates. The last one was in October or November.

Drat. No iDevice for me. But thanks for letting me know.
Sweet baby Jesus. I just noticed that BG1+2 Complete, IWD 1+2, ToEE, NWN Diamond edition and others in the D&D pack were $21 for the lot. I'm a very happy bunny with that purchase having resisted the urge to buy BG Enhanced Edition last month. Whoopeeeeeee!
Yeah, I already own ToEE and PS:Torment physical versions but I'm not adverse to paying $2 each for DRM free digital copies.
Is there a best class/essential skills in Neverwinter nights, or just play whatever and wont miss much due to locked doors or missed dialog choices or whatever.

I may have to scoop that one up solo. Maybe Moonbase Commander too. That's a neat game. I'd love a DRM free copy.
