Any opinions on Realms of the Haunting? The box art brings up a few memories of yesteryear, but nothing more than "oh I remember that box art."

It's been years since I played it, but I remember it being a pretty cool little dungeon crawler with a creepy vibe. I think it's a Build engine game.

Yeah - it's been an awful long time since I played it, but I remember it being one of my favorite games at the time.

Leisure Suit Larry is now on GOG.

That's just... that's not fair... I just bought all the Quest titles...

    Even the announcement is funny.
Leisure Suit Larry's Greatest Hits and Misses! is your first exclusive chance to play the long lost Leisure Suit Larry 4: The Lost Floppies! Not. Just kidding, the infamous floppies are still missing, and the fourth game of the series remains Al Lowe's sweet mystery. The package, however, includes the following classic adventure games from the chronicles of the wannabe notorious womanizer, Larry Laffer:
-Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards (both the original and the VGA version!)
-Leisure Suit Larry Goes Looking For Love (In Several Wrong Places)
-Leisure Suit Larry III: Passionate Patti in Pursuit of the Pulsating Pectorals!
-Leisure Suit Larry 5: Passionate Patti Does a Little Undercover Work!
-Leisure Suit Larry 6: Shape Up Or Slip Out
But that's not all. From GOG.com, the company that likes it cheap and unprotected, you would expect something extra, now wouldn't you? Especially with our milestone 500th release. Something that would make you blush (with excitement). That's why, with the Larry games' collection we give you its spiritual (if that word is even remotely appropriate here) predecessor:
    -Softporn Adventure

Are you ready for the ultimate conquest? Don't forget to use your breath spray to feel fresh, minty, and attractive as you take part in Leisure Suit Larry's Greatest Hits and Misses!, for only $9.99.

The cool thing about it is that is has video cut scenes and the textures in the game are high res. It seems like a tweaked up version of the engine.

I have had the game for years, but never finished it. It seemed like allot of effort went into it.

Awesome. I own one of the previous collections, but that's great they're finally on GoG. I always liked them. I remember being about 8 at a friend's house and trying to guess the answers to play the first game. We'd eventually get in. Strange that they don't have 7, though, which was one of the best. And MCL, I guess.

Softporn is basically a text adventure version of LSL1 that came out previous to it. Fun fact: it has Roberta Williams topless on the cover in a hot tub.

I think I'm nearing the end of Anachronox, and I have a question about part of the MysTech system
so I've had these Elementor Hosts for quite a while, but they don't really seem all that helpful.

I built one to cast the Ice spells by putting a level 7 cyanbeetle in the function (?) hex, and filling the others with level 7 red, yellow, green, and white (in the appropriate holes); cobalt crawlers were placed in the remaining three. Reached high values in both MysPower (maybe 7/8) and MysHarmony (maybe 15/16). I named this Ice, for testing purposes.

I equipped Boots with it, as he seemed to get the most out of it.

Then I went to Upper Routubes (being nearby) to test it on the respawning Mad Gorian. The most expensive spell (FreezySlicer) hit for ~780 and seems to cost 266. I swapped Ice out for FreezySlicer, and cast the level 4 version of it. Damage was nearly identical (closer to 750), for 169 NRG.

The stat difference is "Fair" for the FreezySlicer and "Excellent" for Ice. The bar fills up roughly twice as much for Ice.

Am I doing something wrong with the system, or is there really no benefit to messing with this stuff? The system is poorly documented (which is fine, from a story perspective), and I'm having a difficult time sussing out exactly how to manipulate it.

edit: I presume that if I had found all 8 cobalt crawlers, I could actually make use of the hecatomb power?

Even with that, I'm having a grand time.

The only thing I would really change would be to make it easier to swap party members. I would likely use the timeminders for this purpose, being a fan of Breath of Fire 2.

edit: well, that final boss was overly difficult.
Came down to the wire; ran out of healgrease completes entirely (I neglected to purchase some from K'Conrad). Stiletto and PAL were the last two; Stiletto was in fine shape, but PAL was both underleveled and had nothing equipped. PAL spent most of the fight confused. Kept running around the area, which infuriated me.

Finally got to the point where he was unconfused and Stiletto finished off the winky orb; he rushed in. Luckily, she had also finished off the slow orb, and managed to get another turn before ... did he ever get a name? the boss respawned it. So aggravating that he gets free actions to respawn those orbs.

otherwise ... I didn't see Grumpos' betrayal coming. Well, I had a flash of Frodo At The Cracks of Doom as he was walking up to it. Was he supposed to have always been evil? He seemed almost possessed and vaguely sad about his actions at the end.

Being evil doesn't really track with him apparently not recognizing the keystone, or his interest in making the MysTech / Elementor System work - you'd think he'd want to limit the player's abilities, not amplify them.

All-in-all, a most excellent game, with lots of humor and wit. One of the better takes on the "rag-tag group of people must save the universe" with the larger story's specifics.

A tip, if anyone is thinking about playing the game. You can hit numlock to pause the game and queue up actions. Makes the system a lot more bearable.

    It's Conquest: Frontier Wars!

    Chris Roberts! RTS! Fun!

Battle across planetary systems that are connected by wormholes. Each system has a number of planets which have three resources: ore, gas, and people. Different planets have different values. Build space stations around each planet to harvest the resources. Also I think you can mine asteroids.

A fair number of ships, ranging from fighters to battleships. Which have finite fuel and ammo, so you must manage supply lines.

Combat is on a 2D plane, which is roughly the only major strike against the game. Nebulae cause shields to fail, engines to work better, and I think one other thing.

Attaching an admiral to a fleet confers bonuses.

Seriously, I've met one other person who's played this game. It's one of my favorites.

So, I wouldn't really suggest it.

New release today: Neverwinter Nights 2: Complete, which definitely has better campaigns than NWN 1 (it's made by Obsidian, after all). And this complete version is complete-r than the Platinum edition that Steam once had before they pulled it.

I was given a gift card for Christmas. It's an ARVEST-brand Visa debit card. Has $50, according to the pamphlet, my memory and my brother.

Gave in and purchased a $30 item on Cafepress earlier, and it apparently accepted the information. But, when I tried it on gog, it gave me an error screen.

I'm using Card Recipient for Cardholder's Name. The number, expiration date, and security code have all been double-checked. Should this be working, or have I messed up somewhere?

How much are you trying to charge to the card? Some pre paid debit cards have a fee per transaction, so that $30 charge may have actually take $31.5 or $32 off the card

I have played Daikatana. I have finished daikatana. It's not a GOOD game by any stretch of the imagination, but it has a sort of charm to me. In a "So bad it's good" kinda way.

Also, I legitimately enjoy the multiplayer if you're playing on something like LAN/Hamachi. All the stupid weapons somehow work well.

I played Daikatana last year for the first time. It wasn't really as bad as everyone made it out to be. The first episode had some shoddy parts and a AI issues (including an infuriating section involving both NPCs, narrow ledges, and two ladders), but it gets significantly better in the following episodes.

Haha... oh yeah. Forgot about the bug with the wizard. That was definitely the worst part of the game.

I eventually found out that to prevent that bug I had to load a save prior to that section's load point and then play through the whole section and without saving.

I quite liked the weapons in the game, but the level design was so shit. So shit. I can see multiplayer being good fun, from what I've read the development team deathmatching non-stop is a large reason why it was so late.

The Nintendo 64 version was the embodiment of everything they made it out to be.

They removed the main character's companions from the game but left them in the cutscenes. So the average player would see these characters just show up and then disappear for no discernible reason whatsoever.

It is, as long as you skip episode 3 maps. I almost imagine that the weapons were balanced for DM first, and then just ported to the single player.
