Selling trading cards

I'm looking to sell a bunch of Marvel/DC VS system cards that I'm not going to use anymore. I have at least a couple thousand altogether with around 300 rares. The only problem is, I've been out of the game for a year at least and when I did play it was only for a short time.

I can't find a real value for these cards anywhere. eBay shows one price, online card shops show another, and when I check VS message boards all I see is people trying to rip each other off.

Anyone know where I can get a fricking true price for some trading cards? I just want to ditch the rares in a lot if at all possible.

Collectibles do not have a 'true' price. They are worth whatever you can get for them. If your cards are not in demand then their price will have no stability whatsoever.

Your best bet is to probably just sell them on ebay and expect to get not very much. Trading cards do not have much resell value over time.

That's the thing, this system is actually doing pretty well right now. I know I can get a decent price for at least a few of the rares, but damned if I can figure out what to even expect on ebay.

I take ebay as slightly more accurate because a card is worth only as much as someone is willing to pay. Look at completed auctions for the specific cards you're selling, average the ending prices, and that's pretty close.

eBay is more accurate because they're actual sales, and they're based on what people are actually paying, not what stores are charging (and people are not buying -- after all, if people bought them, they wouldn't be sitting in the stores w/ a price tag on them).

The only other purpose price guides have, in my experience, is a way to gauge fairness for trades. But even that's not true -- people will frequently give a better trade in order to get a card they desire more.

If things are doing well now, get rid of them now. Lest you be stuck with stuff that drops in value once something changes in the system or with demand.

Thanks guys. I'm just gonna put the lot up on ebay with a reserve that I'd like to get and see what happens. If I can't meet the reserve I might as well just keep the stupid things.
