Going from TLA to Korra is striking. The artistic style is of course very similar but it definitely looks evolved. Everything just seems more detailed. The high definition probably does a lot to influence that impression, but it feels like there is more to it. Characters don't look quite as cartoony, and this goes for the adults too. They did more to aim it for an older audience from an artistic standpoint that's both impressive and subtle. I didn't notice at all until going directly from one show to another.
It struck me as well
drawing quality is better
the style is more realistic and I'd say more cohesive
and it's just better animated than the last series
The sound direction is more improved, to me, than the animation. Everything from the score, which was never really anything special in TLA, but quite striking in Korra, as well as the VA, especially Korra herself. To hear her go from low tones when she's annoyed or just talking calmly, and higher and enthusiastic and more feminine when she's excited or surprised
did you really think Flash was going to be the President or something?
It coulda been someone he knows. But I suppose that would be silly, you'd never imagine someone like that pathetic Kent reporter to turn out to have superpowers.
-He vibrates a little whenever someone's taking pictures of him
-He subconciously uses Super Hypnosis, with the help of the Kryptonian glass in his glasses, to convince people he's not superman
-Uses Superman Robots for public appearances which Clark Kent needs to report on
I was hoping for a few more ridiculous explanations but that's all I can come up with off the top of my head.

cartoon logic dictates that whoever wears a mask (whether it be an ally or a villain) will be revealed to be a character of whom the audience is already familiar with
so i'm guessing we'll be introduced to the maskless amon at least once before the reveal
Something I hope they touch on some more in future episodes is
how unusual it is for Korra to be trained in one place her entire life as the avatar. Everything we've learned about previous incarnations has indicated tradition was for the avatar to go from nation to nation, learning not only their bending but their culture as well. I assume it was important because of how the Avatar inherits the mantle of the ultimate neutral party between all four nations, regardless of where she or he is original born.
The reason for Korra being an exception is interesting, and I'd like to see it explored. The White Lotus in the first episode indicate Aang tasked them with keeping the new Avatar safe, which means either Aang wanted her trained in seclusion and protection, or the White Lotus interpreted his wishes as much. I think they're either going to end up going with this being a bad thing for Korra's development, or have it be symbolic of how the four nations as individuals no longer mean as much, and how the culturally "unified" melting pot of Republic City is the new (presumably) center of the world.
Which is in itself an interesting idea for the show to explore, as the importance of keeping the four nations separate was the primary reason Roku opposed Sozin's plans of conquest. Republic City could be seen as a more positively reached outcome of Sozin's own original ideal.

woah woah woah what
Superman Robots.
They're robots that look like superman, and have some of his powers.
I guess they're probably Kryptonian or some shit too I dunno. They pop up sometimes, usually as cannon fodder in Superman fights. I think one of them got hit by a virus and killed like half the Teen Titans at one point too, so they're not pushovers, either.

Amon is the homeless bush guy in the park!
I was actually completely certain that was Bumi (new Bumi) until I saw the family tree again and realized they look nothing alike.
what you guys have to keep in mind is that Clark Kent is a geeky reporter
and you know what? I'm sure people in Metropolis are like, dude you look an awful lot like Superman
and he's all, "haha, yeah. Weird, isn't it?"
look I know it's hard to pretend that you don't know Clark Kent is Superman but I find it very easy to understand why people don't catch on
people believe what they want
Pretty much. All-Star Superman does a great job of showing this. He doesn't really need super powers to disguise himself. He just needs to act clumsy and geeky and no one will believe it because really, how could Clark Kent be Superman?

I was immediately surprised Korra's avatar training was kept in seclusion, especially considering Aang's personality and penchant for curiosity and exploration.
I don't necessarily see Korra as an exception for any particular reason that relates to her as a person, but rather because of the new White Lotus and the state of the world. The bending cultures of the earth and water nations were pretty heavily decimated by the Fire Nation and are likely rebuilding, and possibly unable to properly teach an avatar, which is why specific masters were chosen to consult instead, for a more distilled approach. That, and many of those masters, like Tenzin, and very likely Katara, were also involved with maintaining Republic City, which seems just as important to the world as an Avatar.
okay this one's pretty awesome and provides the perfect explanation for why people can't see that clark kent is superman

Supes should just straight up put on a fat suit when he changes.

But the Teen Titans get wiped out every week.
yeah
"but X can wipe out a b-list superteam" isn't really an impressive measurement of power
hell, the goddamn Mist killed all of Justice League Europe

My guess? He wants Amon to be the fallout from Aang's actions.

it's just
seriously, Luthor
did you really think Flash was going to be the President or something?

what is the explanation for nobody recognizing Superman

He changes his posture, his voice, his demeanor, he presents himself as a clumsy pushover
Lois Lane recognizes him though
-He vibrates a little whenever someone's taking pictures of him
-He subconciously uses Super Hypnosis, with the help of the Kryptonian glass in his glasses, to convince people he's not superman
-Uses Superman Robots for public appearances which Clark Kent needs to report on

It's a scene from an old comic where Luthor builds a computer to learn Superman's secret identity.
It poops out "Clark Kent" and Luthor goes "Who the fuck is that? No, that's bullshit. Fuck this computer."
Does no one recall Christopher Reeves' performance in Donner's Superman flick? That one movie justified Clark Kenting to me for the rest of time.
woah woah woah what
It's really simple.
Clark Kent wears glasses. Superman doesn't wear glasses.
Amon is the homeless bush guy in the park!

Jimmy: "why you so big, clark?"
Clark: "I like to feel sexy."
Jimmy: "Wow. Uh, okay."
also this
"He takes them off when he transforms."
"That doesn't make any sense! He wouldn't be able to see!"

It's a little harder to see that in the animated series, 'cause Kent is still pretty huge, even with the glasses.
It was a lot more passable in the old movies, 'cause he really did look like a total dork when he was Kent.
I love that movie.
