Ranged can be very annoying, reminds me of snipers in modern games....but they are fun to play once you get them down pat
Fun game, needs a bit of work but hopefully its most ironed out for release

So wikipedia tells me today is the anniversary of the Battle of Bosworth Fields (doubtless no coincidence for the pseudo-release). More people tell me whether this is fun.
"All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible." - T.E. Lawrence
After watching Game of Thrones, I've been looking for a Sword and Board game and this seems to fulfil that itch.
The close combat is a bit wonky but once you understand how it works it can be fun, really chaotic. Ranged has an advantage I find but its not easy to be amazing with them.
Once you unlock the Customizable Class you have a ton of options. The basic sword can be tuned to your play style (fast swings, more HP so it doesnt break on you, more penetration cause we all could use more of that right?)
Haven't tried the mounted combat yet.
Ranged is neat with the xbow and bow they both have different mechanics, the xbow has a meta game reload which is neat.
This game has really heavy emphasis on tailoring your class to your play style, I cant wait to unlock a huge warhammer and scream my head off while crushing skulls
I like it, its fun to just swing a sword and pretend I'm actually good at the game

I didn't play much M&B so can't say exactly how it compares. I'm enjoying it but still beta is beta and there's a few flaws to work out though I won't go into details for the sake of the NDA.
Man, loved Mount and Blade, but having some trouble getting into this one. Seems like the tutorial was closed off for me, and after playing a few rounds of multi I'm not sure I actually got any experience. Looks pretty fun and interesting, just not sure I'm willing to fight a very rough unpolished system just yet. Might re-engage it when it releases.

Looking for one more person to go in on a Steam 4-pack. Any takers?

Nah, it's $18 per person in a four pack, with the 20% for owning M&B.
In other news, four more of us own this now.
Man this game can be so brutally mean sometimes and others I can slash up mans like nobodies bidness.

Get a guy with a two handed axe just wail away at anything that moves. Two-handers in general are are kinda OP since the minimum range either isn't kicking in or lag (I'm generally around 200 ping) makes it so the game doesn't think I'm hugging them.
As it stands, flailing away seems to be the way to go since power swings are so fast to charge you almost can't get a quick swing in to mess them up. Hell, I have difficulty even doing a quick swing, it seems to just want to power up regardless. My earlier mentioned ping is probably why. I learned the hard way how putting your visor down in melee combat is a must. Wish I could properly stab some of these lolfootknights in the face with my dagger but it's nigh impossible to get that precision when they are flailing about.
Bow versus crossbow balance is just right imo. Playing either and fighting off a footman/knight in melee and executing them is so satisfying. Don't change the execution mechanic, it's just right. Also, keep reviving teammates as worth more than executing enemies.
I think for the execution mechanic, I'd like to see the person die after the first stab and then anything after get extra points.
Its silly to see some man I just stab in the face get up.

Well, the complete lack of a tutorial in this right now sorta sucks.
I just unlocked the crossbowman. Now how the fuck do I actually use my crossbow? The keybindings say right mouse aims. This is false, it just starts the reload every time. They also say Ctrl is zoom. This is also false, it crouches. Also, the game appears to ignore any changes I make to keybindings. I tried switching crouch to C, and it now says crouch is C in the list, but C still does nothing and Ctrl still makes me crouch.
Yeah, beta is beta. When you spawn or switch weapons (unless you get the lock customization) you have to load the xbow. If you get hit during the process it will restart. There is a mini game you can play with hooking the latch which greatly speeds up loading but if you miss it will freeze in place for a second. Once it's loaded, hold down right mouse button to aim and left click to fire, hold shift to hold your breath/steady your aim.
When you are aiming Ctrl will zoom but only if you have the appropriate perk, just have shift does different things depending on the context.

So I can't get perks till I unlock the first custom slot right? I'm doing pretty decent with the crossbow, but I really want to get better with the longbow. I joined a Uk server and there was a squad of Longbowmen on my team that were just murdering everyone. I really wish the training worked so I could practice.
All the default classes have perks which you'll be able to check out in better detail with your first custom character. The defaults are pretty good so you aren't totally handicapped, but you may like some others better though the surgeon, mounted and officer perks aren't unlocked till later. Sadly, a lot of gear is level locked and there is not enough fluff in between since once you get a piece of gear all "attachments" can just be bought with the all too common coin. Also, leveling slows down pretty fast after you unlock your first custom slot though that may be more from me usually only getting a score of 1-1.5k per match.
In a way it is good, it makes you dependent on the default classes who start with gear not unlocked till much later. But waiting till lvl 17 to unlock your first bow while the one and only crossbow gets unlocked at 9 is kinda meh when you're a ranged person.

Having to reload the crossbow when switching to it makes sense since the bolts just sat in the tray and would fall out plus you wouldn't was a cocked crossbow when not using it since it would weaken the arms.
I still was a sp archery range to practice.
Holy shit, crossbow just clicked for me last match. I had a huge kill streak going.
Also unlocked custom class. So many sword options.
This game badly needs different skins for the two sides. The different-colored floating names are not cutting it in a crowd, especially since they have a vexatious tendency to fade in and out. Can't we just give York white tabards/surcoats and Lancaster red? I mean, if the custom coats of arms are only going to show up on shields and as a relatively small emblem on the chest anyway.
On a related note, being able to design your own coat of arms is kinda cool, but the ones most people are running around with are godawful messes. I mean, I don't expect everybody to understand the rule of tincture and whatnot, but it's like these people just clicked each and every section completely at random.
Further thoughts: the yield mechanic needs some work. It just looks dumb to see a guy who was laid out on his back from getting run through with a lance suddenly pop up and start pleading for his life. His life should be over. Just let people click to respawn and rethink the whole yielding thing.

Yeah yield should come up when you start to bleed out.
Sadly, creating your own coat of arms negates the default huge team flower color coat of arms people get by default. The color coded tabards would be nice.
Concerning execution and yielding it's that balance you have to face if you want it to be a fun team game or just have people respawn as quickly as possible. Execution is more about keeping someone down (note: I've been told you can just swing at a downed person a couple times to kill them without leaving yourself exposed) and extra points while making yourself exposed yourself. I like this because it reflects very well with grapples from SMNC. Being able to yield after being knocked down is a judgement call on the player, some do it right away to prevent giving the extra points from execution, others lay there since it can be faster to be revived and bandage then run all the way back. Had this problem back in Planetside despite me being a healer right there people just respawn because it seems faster. Let's face it, if we were looking for true realism here we'd be bitching about regenerating arrows/bolts as well.
I do love me some crossbow, especially with the latch that fully reloads it on one hook, but I want to have some variation or trade off like the three bows supposedly have. As it stand you're best off getting the heaviest armor, a helmet with lower-able visor, and heaviest shield. Light armor supposedly lets you move faster but all I've seen it gets you kill ridiculously fast. I want Longbowmen and Crossbowmen to have a tougher fight in melee, but since it looks like custom guys aren't limited gear wise, just in mutually exclusive perks, and light armor has only aesthetics (not entirely a bad thing) I doubt you'll see anyone in less than medium armor. Might be nice to have a balance of a longer respawn time for heavier armors and horse riders.
And I want peasant gear unlocked at a far lower level, even 1. Stinky Pete must stab him some nobles.
They just updated and wiped everyone. One of the notes says they revamped the unlock system.
Did they nerf the spear as expected?
I feel like the War of the Roses actually might not have been the best period, historically speaking, for the type of gameplay they've got here. Maybe the Hundred Years War.
I got as far as unlocking footknight playing yesterday before the wipe. Well, the first custom class slot too, but I didn't do anything with it, didn't feel like wading through the options and most of them seemed to be locked to higher levels. Footknight was a frustrating disappointment for me. Compared to the other people I saw hacking through the enemy (including me) as armored juggernauts, when I played footknight it seemed excessively and slow, the weapons (especially the pollaxe) too unwieldy. I was kept getting mobbed and hacked to death by enemies in pairs and trios, too clumsy to keep them at bay, and my plate armor and perks don't seem to make me any more durable than I was as a lowly footman or cowardly crossbowman.
I had the same problems and it's probably a dumb question but do you put your visor down? I'd be going in as a footman/knight with my visor up and the more dedicated players would slash/stab me twice in the face and I'd be down. I had a few lucky times on the knight where I'd just be demolishing clustered groups of enemies but generally I get in a fight with more than 1 and they'll win. The really good ones are those that know the sweet spot/abusing the wide swing attacks to just decimate foes.
Trying to do the same in the barn on the village map and constantly wacking the support beams is hilarious though.
I had the same problems and it's probably a dumb question but do you put your visor down?
Press V. When you do, you get a sort of shadowy letterboxing on the top and bottom thirds (or so) of your screen. This is obviously supposed to simulate the way a visor would restrict your vision, but it didn't seem that troublesome to me...at least on the rare occasions I actually remembered to lower the visor at all. Perhaps part of my survivability problem.
How come every server except the official Fatshark ones only runs a single map (Edgecote Moor) for team deathmatch?
And there's that NDA I thought I had already signed. Guess we should be a bit more hush hush.
Edit: Doh, and that's another reason why I'm having such a tough time. Seems all the servers are in the UK or Australia so I get to have the bad ping for a change. Thankfully I don't think I ever mocked them, but perhaps it is karmic nonetheless.

I might be getting the hang of the Longbow and figuring out how high I have to aim to account for arrow drop. I've gotten a few headshots including one at point blank as a guy charged me. That one was pretty satisfying.

I'm bad at games. This one, specifically.
I even tried to respond to someone on the other team calling me a derp by chatting to my own team, proving his point. <facepalm>
Once I got hold of the crossbow I did marginally better. If a guy holds real still and isn't too far away, he could be in some trouble. :P

Being in a beta state isn't necessarily a problem. I mean, half my time playing M&B was while it was still just a beta.
